    • RE: Stupid A&A G40 Rules

      @WILD:

Not really a rule, more lack there of. I think the game needs some type of coastal def against an amphib. In most cases you leave the coastal territories empty, and stack the inner territory for a counter attack.

Well… I had hoped that included in AnA40 were Block Houses which are in the D-Day game. These plotted around vital coastal coastlines would be an extra pest when the enemy does a
Shore Bombardment/Amphibious Assault having to deal with them.

Of course you can add them as a House Rule.

Stupid Rule I think is the Research & Development. You can buy as many you want, then roll, and if you miss keep all of your token till the next turn.
Also…If you do get a successful 6 you then roll onto the chosen chart of choice. The best part is that if that one you rolled you already have, no worries, just roll again till you get one! Thankyouverymuch

    • SBR defending fighter 2nd edition

      Hey… Basic question…just need a clarification!

On Page 17 of Europe,2nd paragraph.

Any number of defending fighters based in a territory that is about to be strategically and/or tactically bombed
can be committed to participate in the defense of that territory’s facilities as interceptors, whether or not there
are attacking fighter escorts. The number of defending fighters that will intercept is decided by the owning
      player(s)
after the attacker’s Combat Move phase is completed and before the Conduct Combat phase begins.
These fighters cannot participate in other battles during that turn, including a battle in the territory in which
      the bombing raid is occurring.

I Bolded the part I would like to make sure is right.

      1. If you are the player who has in coming SBR, can you choose to use Friendly fighters too in your territory? If so, you as the team decide who to kill off if the enemy Escorts hits any of the defending fighters?

      2. If you can use your friendly Fighters in No.1 example, your friendly fighters can still be used in the future turn of that Round?

      Thanks BH

    • RE: Speed of Play

      @Der:

The best solution is to have a dedicated game area where there is no pressure to finish the game in one sitting. My guys show up and know that we will play 3 rounds and quit, and it will take about 4 1/2 hours. Having a “get this done today” mentality really changes the whole dynamic of how the game goes, and  fatigue starts to play a part in the outcome after a few rounds. Not everyone has a room for that solution, I know. I went many years without the space.  Â

Yes it is nice to have a dedicated table for your group to finish the game right to the end. I fortunately have that opportunity too.
We are four players, and at times 5 which helps the speed.
Unfortunately, in a good way, and frustration for sure, this game really makes you think too deeply about your move because it is very critical ( as we know ), which makes it fun too, but stretches the time frame per round longer than usual.
Players who are not involved much in the game later on much due to they have nothing to do but just defend ( i.e. build on London, Build up Rome ) may get frustrated because the opponents turn taking way too long, needs the board for strategy planning at such a tense critical move taking for ever.
That 6 hour game night turns into 9 hours and just a few rounds achieved.

We have always played the OOB 1st edition order, and will play the YGH 2nd edition overlap order of play, so with 4 players this may be tricky, but will work on it. If anyone has any suggestions that’ll be great too!

The game I suppose is set up to be frustrating, and challenging at the same time especially knowing the rules inside out… which also slows down that round if no one knows the exact correct rule the player is suggesting, or has made and questioned…( can you move there or not… ).

      Axix & Allies…what a game~!~

    • RE: American Strategy (Video Added)

      Hiya…

Okay this may be long and drawn out for you YGH but I am thinking of shoes for a first time player and they have gotten to play USA.

USA is a good country to play if a player introducing to Axis and Allies or in this case G40. Just like playing Russia I guess or Italy where it kinda less hard core to start off with.

Starting in 1940 b4 the famous Pearl Harbor, so the USA player may be a bit bored due to that nothing happens till a possible turn 3 ( like many of us already said ) due to Political Sit.

Explain that the USA player needs to work with the other Allies to see what there plan is, especially the ones already at war at the start of Rnd 1 ( UK and France with GER/ITALY ). What to buy could be vital. How long should USA wait to be in war, does USA want the full 3 turns, or wishes to be in sooner by provocation by Japan or Germany/Italy. Using verbal announcements I am now at war with Japan and explain the choices it’s just at war with Japan or with the other Axis too ( this maybe our own house rule here folks… ).
Explain the advantages of being at war with an Axis country both sides of waters.

      When/how USA land in Russia.

Should the concentration be towards the Pacific OR the European belt, as the USA is in a catch 22 being in the middle of two big oceans with enemy’s both sides, and what to buy best, and non combat moves not at war and then in war.

Talk about the consequences if Japan waits till round 3 to bring USA into war. Maybe it’s the European Axis putting USA into war. What happens next? Explain the relationship restrictions between Japan and USA and European Allies in the sea zones surrounding the coastal territories when not at war.

The mission in the Pacific once at war, the mission in the Atlantic once at war.

      Passing of the Panama Canal.

The political situation: The what if’s that could bring USA into war.

What happens when Axis boats are placed in USA waters in a not at war situation as a non combat move. Placing Axis warships in an USA convoy when USA not at war ( what happens now ).

      USA Capital is Washington.

Should you hold your IPC money back or spend spend spend?

You can be distracted at one end of the board and not pay attention at the other end.

It could be a very long wait till it is your turn again. It is normally a cat and mouse game with Japan, and a more aggressive support in Atlantic ( again really depends on the focus with the other Allies players ).

What capitals are most important to get for USA in Pacific and relationship with ANZAC and UKP team work.

Does USA play China too. The USA fighter in China ( can’t leave China ).

      USA National Objectives

      Okay YGH think that’s it!
