Sure; it might be fun to watch. Seeing the world end with complete chaos would be especially fun, watching everything people would to to prepare.

I’ll be damned. How did I miss that bullet? All well.

RE: What is the UN? What's it Doing? US Remain & Pay for it?posted in General Discussion
You guys need to read up on your history a little. The Korean war was a UN police action to protect a nation with a popular, stable, and well established government from an invasion. Many French, British, and Canadian soldiers, as well as many from other countries were involved in all aspects of the war. The Veitnam war was not a UN operation. It started as a revolution in the south by the Viet-Cong against a very unpopular, oppressive, totalitarian regime. From there, North Vietnam decided to assist the revolutionaries and the US decided to prop up the South’s government. Since it was technically a revolution, the UN decided to stay completely uninvolved (aside from hosting peace talks between the two sides, which constantly broke down).

I prefer Windows 98 to all Windows OSes. Simple but perfect.
Yeah, it’s so great that one day it simply decided to forget the program that runs my mouse drivers  . I was not happy. Have you ever tried to operate a windows OS without a mouse?

RE: Sub questionposted in Axis & Allies Europe
I think subs have lost their special retreating rule in Europe and Pacific. I’m fairly certain you can’t retreat subs (unless attacking), you may only submerge them.

RE: Basic Rulesposted in Axis & Allies Europe
uh, excuse me for I am slightly dense and easily confused, so I’ll answer all of your questions.
- Germany does not collect any income from captured convoy centres. Imagine trying to reclaim all that sunken cargo, completely unviable.
- All you really need to remember about transports is that once they unload their turn is over. This also applies to when a transport “moves” within one sea-zone; once it’s load of troops is landed the transport can’t turn around and pick up more.
- The allies don’t get paid if they control the Middle Eastern territories. They are merely there to serve as a penalty to the allies if Germany captures them.
- Yes, you must roll for each column seperately. Otherwise one could rack up an amazing number of hits by designating all of his ones as being infantry attacks, all of his twos and threes as being fighter and tank attacks, and so forth.

RE: Pellet guns!posted in General Discussion
A friend of mine owns a pellet gun, a very deleightful prjectile weapon. It’s fun to try to hit things outside his window. It has a nasty habit of jamming right when I’ve gotten a bead on a good target. His bebe gun is also a lot of fun, although less accurate.

RE: Newb question on Alliesposted in Axis & Allies Europe
What Nvincible is proposing is perfectly legal. Observe p. 18: “They [airplanes] may not land in territories just capturedduring your turn.” The phrase your turn implies that they were captured by you on your turn, not by your allies at anytime during the round.

RE: South America Has Troubles, Too …posted in General Discussion
I think most of South America’s trouble comes from political instability. You see Governments changing way too much there…
I wonder what the main motivating factor in this constant political upheaval is. Perhaps it’s becuase we keep replacing their govenments for them? Chile (I believe) for instance: there was a perfectly democratic government in place that just happened to be shifting towards the left in the 1970’s. So we help certain factions stage a little coup and exicute the current government; they end up with a ruthless dictator, but at least they aren’t godless communists. I geuss they really do kill commies for christ in South America.

RE: 1st edition rulesposted in Player Help
I’ve often wondered about the first edition rules too; the second edition drops some fascinating hints about them like Commander in Chief rules and such. MB must have burned all the copies they could get their hands on, either that or they were so terrible they didn’t even make the game worthwhile.

RE: Sub questionposted in Axis & Allies Europe
Subs cannot submerge untill the attacker has had an opportunity to attack in any round. If the sub is either attacking or defending then it has the option of either firing or submerging. Hence, a sub could move into combat and immediately submerge, escaping any sort of damage; while defending, on the other hand the sub must endure at least one round of combat.

RE: Money question for the boardgame.posted in Player Help
I think the average round contains enough combat and troop movement to cover roughly 3 months, give or take a few.

RE: Battle of the Atlanticposted in Axis & Allies Europe
You are doing absolutely nothing wrong by using this strategy, it’s completely kosher. If you’re going to leave the US Navy alone then whatever subs you have left probably won’t survive two turns. After the N. Atlantic is clear the brits can build a nice new navy and the Germans haven’t acheived much except perhaps an extra turn.

RE: Germans taking the united statesposted in Axis & Allies Europe
I think that the Americans would see it coming from at least one or two turns away. If you built up large numbers of transports in the Mediterranian then they would know something was amiss and would anticipate an attack against either the US or Britian, having plenty of time to build up defences at either or both. If transports were build in the Baltic then not only would you have trouble protecting them there, but it would be impossible to get them past Britian with the newly rebuilt allied navies.

What better reason to display the red star and hammer and sickel than being a communist. Not to promote the degeneration of this thread into the eternal debate between it and Capitalism.

Bossk is a bounty hunter from the Star Wars universe; a rather large, ugly, mean, reptilian guy that you see for a few seconds on the bridge of the Exicutor in ESB. He has always appealed to me as a real anti-hero, and the screen name has stuck.

RE: Invading Indiaposted in Axis & Allies Pacific
I still don’t believe that Japan can amass a fleet (with enough infantry and transports for invasion) by turn 4, I’ll have to verify this for myself when I get home. If the Allies are very intellegent they can build at least 30 infanty in India in a couple of turns, plus whatever they can get from the Chinese. Combine that with a US fleet sitting outside of Japan by the time you’re ready for an invasion and Japan will never be able to hold both India and Japan this early in the game.
-
RE: Invading Indiaposted in Axis & Allies Pacific
The Americans don’t have to build up any ground forces to bring Japan to it’s knees; an invasion is completely unnecissary. By cutting your supply routes and killing Japanese transports, the Americans can effectively cause any offensive they are trying to perpetuate to grind to a halt very quickly. Then it’s a simple matter of taking the convey routes and the few territories that don’t need them with the Brits and Chinese and the Japanese don’t gain any VPs, effectively making them lose.

RE: Invading Indiaposted in Axis & Allies Pacific
The US can rebuild and move in quite close well before turn 4 if they see that your fleet is on the other side of the pacific. This can lead to an early invasion and the Americans wreaking havoc with your supply lines into SE Asia, stalling your progress.
