I like to say things in russian while playing the USSR (insults are especially fun). It tends to piss my friends off though.

    • RE: Tried Japan without early IC's - only transports

I don’t see why you not buying an IC would have doomed you. You could put more troops on the mainland per turn than all the allies you faced. I just don’t see how they could have torn you up like that.

Yeah, I do this all the time. In fact I got so bored once to go as far as nearly finishing a game by myself. It was pretty dull.

    • RE: Industrial Complexes

I think the only industrial complex worth buying (at least fairly early in the game) is for the UK in India, maybe Sinkiang too. The germans can’t really afford them and have nearly no use for them, for the Japanese it would be a waste of cash (transports can do the job just as well), like you said Russia can’t afford them (except maybe after Germany dies), and the United States has enough money to go anywhere they want without the need for any (except perhaps in Sinkiang).

I know it’s a little late but it sounds like you need to find some better compition. I find losing to be very valuable in bettering my play, you don’t know what you’re missing.

I find Pacific to be very hard to win without victory points.

    • RE: Invading allied capitals in a&a pacific

I think that you might be able to draw the indians out by leaving tempting territorys open to their assult. Then you could amphib. assult india. I think Austrailia would be easier to take though. By taking the Dutch East Indies quickly you can reduce their income by a great deal. Then you can use New Gunea a an effective staging area for the final attack.

    • RE: You are Germany, what do you do?

I would want to take out those russian tanks. In the russians situation they can’t afford to lose those tanks, by taking them away the russian offensive, if any, would be much weaker. I would also buy quite a few infantry, say maybe 7 with 2 tanks. Moving troops into africa would be a must, perhaps amphib. assualt Egypt with the afrika corp providing the punch.

    • RE: America's Role

I think that realisticly Japan can only really take 4 IPCs from the mainland without a large and time consuming build up of forces similar to that the US would face if they decided to go into the Pacific. Of course the US also has the luxury of a larger income and, if the Japanese attacked pearl, the US would be virtually unopposed unlike on the mainland were Japan has to fight bitterly for every territory.

    • RE: Japan first strategies

I think that the Russians should still keep their focus on Germany in any Japan first stratagy. Ruusia starts the game with more infantry than Germany and this is what keeps them in the game especially if they can take out the stockpiled infantry on the European front.
Britian must keep the Japanese from expanding on the mainland; Russia could probably also afford to send a couple of infanry east each turn to hold them off. But it’s up to The US to actaully go on the offensive. By taking the islands the US can cripple Japans economy, and any loses the Americans take can be replaced fairly easily, unlike Japan which can’t afford to rebuild their navy in a very timely manner.

    • RE: Russia in A&A E

It doesn’t really matter when the germans attack becuase you’ve got plenty of space to give and he can only move so fast. On your first or second turn your should be able to establish a fairly stable front where you can build infantry.

no, actually transports can move in combat. This is refered to as an amphibious assualt.

    • RE: The Game is broken

It’s a matter of stratagy. The axis need really good stratagies to win, while the allies can do a fair job without really excellent ones. Once the axis get their stratagies down pat then it will seem they are invincible, that is untill the allies change their tactics in suite. That’s what makes this game great, how fluid and ever changing it is.

    • RE: Russia in A&A E

I like to keep my tanks behind a heavly defended front so that if the Germans do attack (which is really great for you) then even if they take the territory they can’t hold it for all your T-34s that come crashing down on them (research the Battle of Kursk). Besides that, if you build up alot of infantry in front of your tanks then you can still attack at full force.

    • RE: Russia first strike

I also think that taking manchuria is a mistake on your first turn. If you take out their infantry (or at least most of them) then you’ll be fairly safe untill you can get some more infantry east to help out the British and US. You could also do this against the germans but I wouldn’t take either eastern europe or ukraine with your tanks as they will more than likly be destroyed by the resulting counter-attack.

You also need to take into account the 2 infantry Japan has in Kwangtung. If you’re lucky you will take manchuria with 2 or 3 infantry and your tank. Japan will come at you with 2 infantry a tank (from the islands) and, more than likly, a portion of his airforce, not to mention the battleship’s support shot. All in all your chances of keeping Manchuria are slim.

    • RE: All power to the soviets

I agree with the Field Marshall. If the US does go for the Pacific they can take all of the islands in a few turns. This is good beacuse they are worth 9 IPCs. That’s pretty close to half of Japan’s starting income.
The other factor in this is delaying the Axis. If the Russians are very good at all they can hold off the Germans and the British air force can keep the heat off of africa. The Allies also need to find troops to keep territorys in asia though. This is done with at least a british IC and the russians sending 2 infantry east every turn. Then Japan is weak, the Germans are pretty frusterated and the allies are in good shape to kill them.

    • RE: Some Algebra…

right on Major Damage! trial and error is the only real way to figure out long term stratagies. And who wants to do a ton of algebra (allbe it’s not that hard) before they decide on an attack.

    • RE: A&A Europe or A&A Pacific

hey man, I don’t appreciate that comment about my fellow A&A players. Although Pacific is new and fresh I do like Europe for the large and complex land based strategies (I am quite interested in the Eastern Front, a disadvantage of living in the West is I don’t get all that much info on it). I also like Pacific due to its complex economic stratagies, very interesting.

    • RE: Long post about Japaneese Industrials

You also need to prevent Japan from becoming too powerful. They start fairly weak but can become quite powerful (IPC-wise) very quickly if you simply ignore them. Hence the complexity of the game. As the allies you must stop the Germans before they can do damage to the Russians but you need to keep the Japanese bottled up untill you’ve finished with Germany. This is why as the US I like to keep my options open in the Pacific with a fleet larger than that of the Japanese.
