except the US also gets Navy Hellcats in addition to P-38s.

Bad move Anonymous. The germans will more than likely destroy all your forces in Ukraine including your tanks. You need those later in case you should need to go on the offensive. Believe me, you need to keep as many units in the game for as long as possible as Russia.

RE: It's impossible for Japan to win in A&A Pacificposted in Axis & Allies Pacific
That’s insane. Japan can keep all their original navy intact for at least the first two turns with extra airplanes to replenish their carriers plus combat air patrols. This makes the Japanese navy exremely difficult to kill even if the US has a dozen bombers. The US can’t give that much aid to Australia and the British navy is usually destroyed by turn 3 or 4. This makes taking Australia relitivly easy to take if they buy what you say they did. As for India, if the Japanese navy is neglected and offensive power is built up in southeast asia (this is of course if the Japanese were wise and didn’t bother with China) and some of the convoys were taken then India can be taken much more easily than you describe. As for getting 40 IPCs on the first turn, that’s just foolish; there is such a thing as spreading yourself too thin.

I say keep them both occupied and slowly build offensive forces to kill Germany and then Japan. Believe it or not the Allies really do have enough resources to keep both the axis from expanding while having enough left over to do this. In fact I’ve managed to hold off Germany without any US help.

That’s kind of sad. Must have been terribly boring.

I think that would be a terrible game. Pouring troops into the trenches in france for a couple of years and then finally pushing out becuase one side gets tired of fighting. Sounds like great fun.

RE: A&a pacificposted in Axis & Allies Pacific
As Japan it is important to get as many IPCs they can per turn. I recommend taking as many of the valuable Dutch East Indies as possible while staying away from Celebes. This is becuase the British can bring most of their naval forces to bear on any ships you may have around these islands. Taking out the American fleet at Hawaii and the British Battleship near Maylay is important also. I do not recommend taking Midway yet as the remaining American fleet and airforce can probably take out any fleet you can assemble there. Ignore China for the most part; it is worthless and will only bog you down. Consolidated you forces in southeast asia quickly and move you airforce into the Pacific (the Caroline islands are a good spot) to back up you fleet. Destroy the British fleet before it has time to consolidate and become a formidible fighting force. That’s pretty much all I’ve figured out so far, hope it helps.

I have found that ignoring Japan like that makes them more difficult to stop after you’re finally done with Germany. Germany can hold out for quite a while and can even expand under these circumstances allowing the virtually unopposed Japanese to become very powerful, even unstopable.

I’ve found Europe to only be around 4 or 5 hours. I played one game that may have been close to 8, difficult to remember

An eastern front game would be awesome. You could have intricate battles in which you could direct troops against specific areas of a front. You could command your troops much like a real general did.

RE: Tried Japan without early IC's - only transportsposted in Axis & Allies Classic
Observe. Japan buys two transports. That’s 16 IPCs (one more than an IC). Japan can move as many tanks or double the infantry onto the mainland than if they had an IC there. They also have the option of moving these units onto the mainland where ever it may suit them for that particular turn. This is why I believe that an early coastal IC is completely unnecisarry. It’s not just a matter of being more cost effective (if you call saving a single IPC being cost effective) being more moblie and having the ablity to move more troop plays perhaps an even more significant role in conquering asia.

I do believe History of the World has been revamped recently. You can go the avalon hill’s site to check it out.

The T-34s and Panzers are especially neat. Tanks battles are the coolest.

RE: Favorite countryposted in Axis & Allies Classic
The problem with that is that the US usually either does nothing because they’re too busy building defenses or they try to do too much (which ultimatly fails) and they have a rather weak defense.

RE: About bombersposted in General Discussion
Yeah, especially with UK I like industrial raids. When I have nothing better to do I just buy a bomber and something else every turn and make life easy for the russians.

RE: Historicly accurate piecesposted in General Discussion
Well, it does mainly represent the Eastern Front in which Stukas were very important. I’m surprised they didn’t have the russians with IL-2s instead of Yaks.

Indeed, I played the computer game for the first time not to long ago and found the AI exceedingly easy to beat.

you wouldn’t necisarily have to go for russia initially. You could still take china and india before turning your attention to the russians.

RE: Problems with Russiaposted in Axis & Allies Classic
I recomend a slightly more conservative approch and sending a couple of infantry east every turn after eliminating most of the infantry in Manchuria (but not taking it).
