    • RE: Does anyone have any tactics/advice for AAE?

Germany can take undefended convoys by moving into or through them, but to take a convoy with enemy units in it you must eliminate them (just like tanks on land); then the appropriate Allied player is moved down on the NP chart. Germany does not get income from taken convoys (imagine trying to salvage sunken cargo in the middle of a war).

I haven’t played in a while, but as russia I like to put large masses of infantry on or as close to the front as possible with tanks one space behind them for offensives or counter-attacks. I build lots of infantry and wait untill Germany has worn it’s self out rammining it’s head against them, then I simply put my overwelming numerical superiority to good use and take the Germans out (or at least weaken them up a good deal). German stratagys are very often complex and very raley will the same one work twice; be flexible, that’s about all I can tell you about Germany.

    • RE: AAP too confusing!!! Is AAE better?

Europe is somewhat simpiler (you don’t have CAPs or naval/air bases for instance), but many rules from Pacific were first seen by many people in Europe, such as destroyers, sub submerging, and artillery.

    • RE: Radical U.S. First Turn Option

I think risk is what makes this game so enjoyable. If you aren’t certain your stratagies and tactics will work it makes for much more fun games. I’m very rarely afraid to try out completly new and seemingly outragous stratagies just to see if they pan out.

Quite so Yanny, but I still prefer my hit and fade stratagy for Russia.

Unless the good allied player is playing an exceptional axis player, Doug.

I like taking my sub against the atlantic submarine. I attack E. Europe and Ukraine to kill German infantry. take out the germans in the baltic with a fighter or two. kill a couple japanese infantry in Manchuria then retreat.

Inattention. I wonder how many promising A&A players have fallen victim to this tragic and often fatal character trait.

Hmmm, now that I think about it you may be right Yanny, Britian may have lost those transports already. With a little help from the Russians Britian might still have the transport from around the UK, and chances are the Germans will ignore the one off of Canada, so my plan still has a chance.

    • RE: 1st turn Japanese attack on Hawaii

Again, my ideas on this point seem to conflict with most other players. I like to attack the Americans at Hawaii with my air force (fighters from Japan, Manchuria, AC, bomber, land fighters on AC, bomber on Wake, move fleet around Wake). Although this removes my fleet from danger it limits my offensive capabilities on the mainland. I consider this to be a fair trade because land forces are much cheaper than a new navy. This puts me in a stong position in the Pacific and I can easily get more forces to the mainland.

That sounds very similar to what I like like to do, Field Marshal. I usually destroy the German Med. fleet (at least the transport) with my bomber and whatever may remain of my fleet. Then I transport 2 tanks (UK, E. Canada) into Algeria, traping the Germans between my two forces. I then move my fighters to Gibraltar to threaten whatever may remain of the German fleet (or if they foolishly try to rebuild it) and the Afrika corp is made sort work of.

    • RE: Industrial Complexes

An IC in South Africa is almoust completely useless in my opinion. It’s too far from most of the fighting in Afica to make much of a difference.
If the British are defeated in Egypt and the Germans still have some transports then you probably can’t produce enough infantry in time to stop the Germans from taking the continent.
If the British can remove the german transports then Africa is basicly theirs and they’ll be stuck with an ineffective IC far removed from anything.

Aircraft can fly through CAPs to attack another sea zone, but what I’m saying is that a CAP can defend in the sea zone your attacking. Therefor the Japanese can have much more defensive power than just their navy and whatever fighters can fit on their carriers.

Way to stand up for yourself Doug, but I have to say that I think there is a serious flaw somewhere in your thinking.
By the way, a CAP can defend against air units if those units are attacking the sea zone the CAP is in.

Indeed Yanny. And, if you use your subs effectivly, you can keep the US around 65 IPCs per turn

    • RE: We all know…

Most people probably wouldn’t agree with me, but I like to keep the US out of Europe and focused on the Japanese. I think that Germany can be taken out by Russia and the UK and I often play this way. By threatening Japan from the Pacific the US can limit the number of troops the Japanese will have on the mainland.
I also think my hit and fade tactics with Russia not only keeps them alive but allows them to eventually go on the offensive. You just hit the Germans with everything you have to draw off their infantry then you simply retreat; this prevents the Germans from attacking, allowing you to build more infantry and eventually tanks and perhaps fighters.

Yeah but mustangs hadn’t entered service by 1941 when the game starts. And lightnings where used a lot more in Europe than Mustangs where used in the Pacific. They were used as long range escorts for bombers before mustangs.

Mustangs weren’t used very often in the Pacific theater though. Mainly P-38s, Corsairs, and Hellcats.

    • RE: What is your fav war board game?

Must I choose just one of the A&A games, they’re all so good. Indeed, Europe is rather difficult on the Germans. The first few times my group played it they really got slaughtered. It’s kind of overwhelming for the Germans moving from regular to Europe; there are so many more territorys and your troops are so dispirsed amoung them it’s kind of hard to make sense of it all at first.
