Agree, this is the jumping in point for new online players, so adhering to the standard rules as much as reasonably possible to make a “fair” game will make the transition easier. Plus the tactics will translate directly to improve over the board play. I think the current bid mechanics do that well.
BM and PTV are the variants to explore rule changes, and more dramatic map/rule changes respectively.

By posting here, I think @axis-domination DID resign the game - did I miss something? Most people post something like “so-and-so wins, will played”, but it seems in the heat of the moment this did not occur. :)
BTW, here are the entire dice stats. The TOTAL dice rolls look entire fair. However the distribution for Axis rolls is skewed slightly lower, and Allies slightly higher. What can you do - it’s a random number generator, given enough rolls it will start to look fair for each power, but will vary slightly with low sample size.
I suspect there is a lot of game play/strategy differences that come into play for someone to win as Axis against a ~60 Allies bid.
Maybe the best way to balance is to play 2 games, flipping sides with the same bid. Of course, dice luck can also come into play, so not a perfect measure.

After the disastrous G1, against someone of Farmboy’s caliber, my thinking was this game was effectively over. I think overall France was at +7 hits after turn 2, which was ridiculous.
I went full “risk on” for J1, as I had nothing to lose at that point. Got lucky on several key coin flips (mainly attacking the Anzac DD and Transport), so the game continued on!
German was severely hampered though, having lost all art and mechs in France. I think the “avg” outcome is to lose 7 infantry with an all ground attack.
Yes, hard decisions in E Poland. Glad the game is underway!

A bid is used to help balance the game to more “even” odds of either side winning. In my opinion, 1941 favors the Axis, so to play Allies, you could bid for it. Say one person starts the bid at 15 IPC, and another says they would play Allies for 13, etc. Whoever bids lowest, is the winner of the bid and plays the Allies in this case.
They then get to use their bid as additional units they can place on the board at setup. Usually the bid requires the country to already have units in the space. You can search these boards for more discussion/rules concerning bids.
I should clarify, new to League, but fairly experienced playing A&A, and G40 on Triple A. Hope to be a competitive player. :)
Nope, that’s the one. Dawg was a 75% favorite to win that battle. With the complete blank on the first round, things really started poorly. He only hits 2 in the 2nd round. What really hurts is that 3rd round, where Germany hits 5/6, to take out Russia’s entire air force. Germany wins that one, losing only 3 mechs. Russia scores only 3 hits the entire 3 rounds, despite having 5 @3 and 1 @4 for much of that battle.
Yeah, the bomber run on US1 really surprised me. I thought there was a problem in the game file, as UK only had to deal with 2 subs, until I went back and looked at the finer details!
Dawg had some bad luck with AA fire. I’m in a current game, and think I’ve been subjected to ~15 bombing runs against me, and 0 AA hits!
Yeah, I thought it would be a fun thing to have folks submit their worst “getting diced” moment, and we have a vote or sthg to see who wins. At least it would soften the blow, knowing you have a good submission for the year.
For League play, could develop some kind of rating system, where a bid does not mean the same thing depending on the player level.
For example, if the players are equally rated, the bid is as given straight up. If there is a tier difference between players, it becomes the bid + say 5 ipc * (tier level differential). This could scale down or up the bid, depending if the higher or lower tier player is playing Allies respectively.
Actually, maybe too complicated to scale up and down, it just needs to go one way. If a strong Tier M axis player is up against a Tier 1, and thinks the fair bid to play Allies is 60, the Tier M would have to be willing to go to an Allies bid of 50, knowing the rating will be adding 10 to the lower Tier 1. This is assuming we think 5 * level differential is the right number.
Could help the strong Axis players get a little bit of variety. :)

I’m doing some tests on BombsAway and Booper who are new to BM this year and played 5 or 6 games to see if the sensitivity is enough to apparently give them a fair shot at a fair seed in the playoffs.
Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to participate in playoffs this year. Been busier than anticipated, and have not been able to play much this latter part of the year.
The common “non-default” bid I see is an Anzac infantry in New Guinea, as there is no prior unit there, but it allows Anzac to grab one of their objectives without use of a transport.
Not sure how folks feel about this one, has anyone ever denied this bid? I’ve never used it nor had it used on me, but my gut reaction would be to disallow it… curious how accepted this bid is in the community.
