    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

      @dinosaur:

      The very first post explains there will be a variety of pieces, including two infantry sculpts per nation.  In short, this will be the most complete set of pieces offered anywhere with six nations (to start with, but one nation released at a time) and the greatest variety of units.  FMG is also pursuing other projects including the dice project with seven specific nations, a dice tower, and sometime in the future an enhanced set of chips to represent stacks of units or special conditions such as damaged units.  Eventually we expect to see additional nations such as ANZAC represented.

      Sorry, lack of mention in FMGs previous post made me curious.

      Will there be any infantry for Italy in the set?  A generic looking sub?

      Yes, thanks for looking at game 1.  I’ve reviewed it a few times myself.  It was my first AA50 game and hence I had a lot to learn!

      Mind taking a look at one of the later games and discussing it with me?

      @bugoo:

      Ok i’m looking at game 8 and see a few mistakes.

      R1
      Do NOT abandon Karelia!  G had 4 inf, 1 art, 3 arm and a bunch of planes in range.  Russia could have had a stack of 11 inf, 1 art, 1 arm plus 2 uk figs there.  You gave germany free money without them even having to work for it.  If you had to do an attack you should have struck Baltic States.

      So I loose the fleet you suggest to not spend as much $ on?  If those fighters are in KAR they sure as heck aren’t keeping a fleet above the waters, right?

      If Germany wants it they can take KAR on G2and If I stack all my defense there I just end up with nothing to trade territories with.

      @rockrobinoff:

      I don’t get these ‘half way’ builds of a few tanks and a few inf. Exactly what does that achieve?

      Infantry to do the dieing, armour to do the killing usually.

    • Analytical Help

      Either I’m extremely unlucky (possible) or I have some fundamental flaws to my gameplay (more likely).

      So I come to the 1941 board asking for help.  I can’t win any of my games.  It doesn’t matter if I’m Allied or Axis either.  Would the local experts mind helping me review my gameplay and come up with some new approaches or strategies to use?

      I don’t take this all that seriously but loosing constantly is rather disheartening.  If I never improve whats the point?  So anyways, here are my games to look at:

      1st game:
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=13638.0

      2nd game:
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=14261.0

      3rd game:
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=15314.0

      4th game:
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=14468.0

      5th game:
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=14890.0

      6th game:
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=15340.0

      7th game:
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=14764.0

      8th game:
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=15344.0

      9th game:
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=14952.0

      Any comments on my gameplay in any of these games would be greatly appreciated.  We can refer to them by the game numbers I attached for reference.  Discussion of specific moments where I screwed up a purchase or movement would be helpful but I feel like I’m just missing something on a bigger level than that.

      I don’t want to be thought of as a poor sport or a quitter but I don’t really feel like constantly being a sure win for my opponents much longer.

      Thanks!

      Meah, In all my games all the UK has left is 2 inf in TRJ and no fleet to move anything with.

      But don’t take my advice, I loose all my games on this site.

      @Panzer:

      In one game UK bought a IC on India and actually managed to contain Japan for at least 4 turns before it was getting tough. They then moved some of Egypt forces over to India to re-inforce. By that time USA had been buying Pacific fleet from the beginning and had moved its fleet out to challenge Japan, so Japan had to turn around to counter US. Japan did get huge but they took too long getting rid of China and were not able to secure India, so they were not able to concentrate on Russia and eventually the Allies gained the advantage.

      That sounds like very weak or inexperienced play on the Japanese players part.  Japan should have no problem taking India in turn 2 or at worst 3, even with the UK building anything there.  Germany and Italy should be having a good old time if the UK is sinking money into India and not forcing Germany to protect against landings.

    • RE: TripleA still up and running! Many players online.

      @VectorWega:

      LMAO @ everyone in this thread getting upset because Hasbro is protecting it’s intellectual rights.  I guess everyone wants to look out for their own interests, but in reality, the people in the wrong here are the developers of TripleA.  Whether the game has helped or hurt Hasbro’s business, and regardless of whether or not the developers have tried to profit from the game, they have stolen from Hasbro.

      Hasbro has the right to protect/control its interests and everyone should stop being so selfish and realize the full picture.  Clearly, Hasbro would like to create a revenue stream through things like a facebook application, and Hasbro should have that right.  The developers of TripleA can make a similiar game if they want, but to directly rip of Axis & Allies is completely bogus.

      Funnily enough all TripleA has to do is change some names and map design and suddenly Hasbro has nothing to protect.  Which is what is happening as we speak.  Please don’t get all huffy that a small team of dedicated enthusiasts is putting a large buisness to shame as far as product quality goes.

    • RE: What is AAA

      @Cmdr:

      Yes, Battlemap is a way for players to play each other.  TripleA is a prettier version of Battlemap with less functionality but comes equipped with an AI (which sometimes prevents you from performing legal moves)

      Funny, I found the dice rolling, built in movement restrictions, IPC calculations and built in options to mean that TripleA has MORE functionality, not less.  But I guess I need to know what crazy definition of functionality your using.  Care to entertain?

      @Cmdr:

      Plenty of things you could do.

      Rename units:

      Infantry = Army
      Armor = Tank Battalion
      Fighter = Squadron
      Bomber = Bomber Squadron
      etc

      Those are general terms, WOTC has no exclusive rights to their use.  That would be like me copyrighting “car” and suing anyone using the term…

      Screw that.  I’m not paying money everytime I want a competitive game of Axis and Allies.  TripleA will live on underground I reckon.

      I’m boycotting them for shutting down TripleA.  I don’t like to provide any income to companies who run around knocking out fan driven material.

      @Cmdr:

      Also, it would make very little sense for Hasbro to try and do harm to the gaming communities of DAAK, FoE, AAMC and here because it would be a very hard sell in court and because we do more good than harm to Hasbro.

      I mean common, if it were not for sites like this, I woulda never known that anniversary was here, let alone buy 5 copies!

      But we are all still here playing the game.  Thats what TripleA was about, was it not?  That this site has advertising is actually more of a problem, as it could insinuate that a profit is being made (whether it is or not).

      I’m going to continue playing here of course, but TripleA will probably continue to be my favorite way to play the game.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hasbro release another crappy video game that they fail to support in the most basic ways.

      @questioneer:

      My supplier, who does get word from Wizards from time to time said that WOTC is planning on making another CD game version of the game based off of the AA42 and/or AA50 boardgame version.

      Awesome, hopefully it will be as buggy and unplayable as the old A&A and Iron Blitz and receive the same minimal support!  The AI was uber too!  [/rant]

      Information wants to be free.  Just the way it works.  WOTC should think about hiring the people who built TripleA, they seem to have known what they were doing and were dedicated.
