      One transport in SZ16 can help you hit your NO if you play them.  With right circumstances……

      Too easy for the Italians to pick off with their fleet or even just a fighter.  The Russian NO only really shows up in the endgame if the allies are winning I’ve found.

      Good analysis but it still leaves out a huge advantage of armour.  The movement of 2 territories instead of 1.  All the pieces have a place and a balance seems to serve best.

      If I’m going to be using Infantry on the attack I like to have 1 Artillery for every 3 Infantry.  But this also goes along with 1 or 2 armour for each 3 infantry as well.  The infantry to soak up hits but not be completely worthless on the attack with the artillery support.  1-2 tanks for each stack of 3 Infantry as well.  Of course I’ll have some air power as well to really give some punch to the attack.

      Thats the thing I like about artillery.  For a small extra you give your cannon fodder a lot more bite.
      Diversified armys have served me best in most situations but then again with the distance it needs to cover, Japan seems best suited to pick up armor.

      I might be inclined to agree with you, Bongaroo, but I have seen too many successful American campaigns in the Pacific so far.  If America’s hitting you in the Pacific, it is to easy to get your forces either tied up defending Sumatra or have reinforcements built in Sumatra get cut off from the mainland.

      Also, it’s my personal opinion, that an Industrial Complex is supposed to get units onto the mainland faster, not to build them on an island and transport them.  That’s why I don’t support a British complex in Australia or a Japanese one on the islands.  (Though, for America, i will build them on islands because it’s a way to reinforce the navy faster and stage landings without having to transport units across the Pacific.)

      Now, that’s just my opinion on the matter, it’s not to say one is correct and one is incorrect.

      The US coming strong would certainly have me reconsidering the proposition.  One reason I particularly think it is a good placement is you get more units produced for your money.  4 instead of 3 or in the case of FIC 2.

      Another reason I enjoy it is that I have found myself with 2 or more transports in the Indian Ocean area of the board often with nothing to do.  After Australia and India are captured they have a long trip back to Japan to really serve a purpose.

      I’ve also heard people mention they’ve needed somewhere besides SZ62 to place naval units when SZ62 is under threat.

      There certainly are pros and cons to it.

      mmm…That was a good rpg.  I don’t think I ever finished it, I’m pretty sure I remember getting to the final battle and getting slaughtered.

      If only they would consider doing the same with some old Sega RPGs.  Shining Force I and II were incredible.  I was hooked on them.  I almost bought a Saturn just to play Shining Force 3.

      Go for it, I’d love Russia to be putting 4 less Inf down each turn as Germany.  I don’t think you would have enough fodder to trade territories for very long and Germany would start to get the upper hand as far as the Income balance goes.  By round 5 Japan should be showing up from the South as well.

      I don’t think buying a bomber a turn is a good strategy at all.  I’ve seen Russia buy a few fighters to help in trading along the front and I could understand a bomber but not 1 a turn.

      Screwed up controls kept me away from flight sims too. :P

      Make the control work like the steering wheel of a car, not some weird configuration, that way you reduce the learning curve of future users and broaden your user base.

      Well as far as left and right go, a plane will act like a car.  Left on the stick and you roll left.  Now as far as the pitch of the nose, well cars don’t do that :D

      I could be completely wrong but it may have something to do with how planes were built since we’ve been building them.  When they didn’t have hydralic or fly by wire controls and the pilot was exerting force to move the control surfaces.  I dunno.

      Honestly, I think it was a programming error.  Someone reversed a couple of commands telling the program to move left instead of moving right and thus, we got this weird acting piece of software.

      Actually it’s quite common the way it is set up.  There is no set standard for how it should scroll in any programming conventions that I’ve ever been informed of.  I’m used to programs working as TripleA does and it takes me a second to adjust to BattleMap.  [shrug]

      Very similar to how I need some video games to play.  I like the Y-Axis to be inverted.  It’s just comfortable to me since my background for this type of stuff is aviation.  Push forward on the stick and the nose goes down.  Some of my friends hate playing multiplayer games with me where we pass the controllers around since whoever gets mine will have to switch that setting.

      This is neither here nor there as far as Japan fleet killing goes.  :D

      There is, but I believe it is in beta.

      And I refuse to use it at all if they don’t fix it so that moving the mouse to the right scrolls the map to the right and moving the mouse to the left scrolls the map to the left.  Right now it’s bass ackwards.

      Same thing happened to me when going from one drafting software to another.  Perhaps we could ask for a selectable option?  Wouldn’t be very hard to program.

      I’ve also seen someone use an 8 bid to get another transport for this move.  He took UK but America took it back and since there was no pressure on Russia for a few turns the guy ended up loosing.

      If I were Japan I’d be building a fleet to counter the USA fleet purchases.  Would seem silly to watch the US build a fleet that big and not start putting more than just a few boats in the water.

      What did Japan buy to match USA in your games?

      The NOs do make Japan very killer.  Its what forces the USA to seriously consider the consequences of leaving Japan to itself in the Pacific.  They need to start island hopping to get the Japanese to protect its income, or at least some of it.

    • RE: How to get german boots to the russian front?

      I just finished a G2 and secured my 3 NO’s.  Russia deadzoned and has a lot of Infantry looking at me.  My Inf is soft but backed up by a lot of ARM.  I’m not sure how this will go but I feel that I need to hurt Russia as much as possible before I just start huddling up and waiting on Japan.

      The US is dropping ships in the Pacific so I’m curious to see how this will all play out.
