I am getting both games for sure.  Gonna blend in the new pieces for more variety.  I will also be selling lots of pieces from the 2nd editions on eBay, so anyone that doesn’t want the full game but wants new pieces keep an eye out for them.  I love doing it.  After all is said and done, I make a little bit which I use to help pay for my daughters daycare.  Don’t make a ton, but I enjoy the process and have met some very nice people whom love A&A like I do. That is truly amazing.

Are you planning on putting a clear overlay on the countries with economic value/victory cities/sea zone numbers?

LOL I love it when I play guys that think they’re something, because they can beat “Moore N. Able.”

My first time playing on the computer so I wanted to try and familiarize myself with how it all worked.  But so far the AI hasn’t done much to stop the Axis rolling to victory.  I like how it all works though.  Amazing job by those that put it all together.  Thak you so much for the hard work.  I hope to play some humans one day when I feel I can put the time in.

Thank you.  Wasn’t sure how that worked.  It must be in the rule book, but I couldn’t find it.

LOL no… but what a cool house rule!

OK, good.  I was worried I missed something.  Thanks,

On a different note, if a transport is at a seabase, can it move one space, pick up a infantry, move another space, pick up a tank and move another space and drop off?  Or does stopping to pick up a unt negate the 3 space bonus of the original seabase?

OK, Now China (as the AI) has moved troops into the Himalayas.  Is that allowed?  Maybe I don’t understand that rule, but I thought it was a dead space!

      @Veqryn:

      bob,

i was able to leave a tactical and fighter, then place a carrier under them.

go back and check what you did, you probably did something else.

the history panel will show what happened to the tactical

Oh excellent!  I didn’t know about the history button.  And you are 100% right.  I accidentally grabbed that Tac again and moved it to Western Germany after I had moved it to the sea zone.  Thank you!!!

So I am playing my first game.  As Germany I bought a aircraft carrier.  I left a tac and a fighter in the sea zone where I placed the AC, but at the end of my turn, the Tac was gone.  I’m I mistaken in thinking I can leave a tac in a sea zone where a new carrier is going to be placed?  Is it only fighters that can do that?

      @Gamerman01:

      Great story, Bob, thanks
Have you ever tried playing it on this site, on-line?  Suits busy people like you, because you can play a whole game 20 minutes at a time, whenever you want, at your convenience.

I have not played online.  I tried to download the game on my work travel computer but it was blocked.  I use Mac at home.  Can I play on a Mac?  I don’t want to sabotage this thread either, so tell me if this question should switch to a different thread.

    • RE: Just How Old Are We Axis and Allies Players?

      Love this thread.  Great stories.

My story goes like this.  It was 1984 and I had just finished mowing 3 lawns in the neighborhood.  After collecting my pay, I put it with my past earnings and realized I had enough…Fianlly!!  I begged my mother to take me to Toys R Us so I could get a game for my… Colecovision.  She of course refused at first, but I would not be detered.  I bugged her and begged and offered up many options of additional chores I would do if she would just drive me to Toys R Us.  My Colecovision was calling my name and wanted a fresh new game to be plugged into it.  My mother relented, and off we went.
I knew the game I wanted.  Frontline!  I’d been eyeing that one for months now.
We arrived at the store.  I could barely wait for the car to stop so I could jump out and run in, grab that little piece of paper, run to the register, pay for the game and collect it at the game security booth (those of you old enough know what I mean).  I entered the store.  Took the all to familiar right, then left turn.  Walked right past the wall of board games.  I didn’t look at them.  No sir.  I was a video game junky.  I hit the Colecovision aisle.  Found the box for Frontline. Went to grab that piece of paper from the little blue pouch…EMPTY!!!  What!!! Empty!!!  Surely there must be some mistake.  Frantically I looked around for a Toys R Us associate.  There must be one close by.  There’s one.  I raced over to him and asked in an anxious voice if they had more copies in the booth or in the back.  He told me he’d go check.
Minutes felt like hours…Then he emerged from the swinging doors that lead to the storage area.  What did he have in his hands!!!  Was it Frontline???  No, it couldn’t be.  It was much to large a box.
He walked up to me and said how sorry he was, but they were out of stock.  The emotions!!!  My stomach felt empty.  I went numb.
At that point, the associate said, “Hey.  Do you like boardgames?”
I told him that I wasn’t a boardgame type kid.  He told me that was too bad because the game he was carrying just came in that morning and it looked like fun.  He handed me the game he was carrying.  It was big and blue and said Axis and Allies.  I flipped it over and looked at the back.
Oh!!! I thought to myself, look at all the pieces.  That could be a blast.  My brother played risk, but this looked better.  I wasn’t sure though.  I’d mowed so many lawns to get Frontline.  Could I spend that money on a game I’d never heard of?
Then, good old Mom jumped in.  “You know you have lots of video games.  Why don’t you try this?”
Seemed logical at the moment, so I bit.  Went home and opened the box.  Talked my brother into playing with me.  Had a blast.
I eventually did go back and get Frontline, but it sat unused mostly.  I was hooked on Axis and Allies.  I have bought every version since and introduced countless numbers of friends and family to the game.
I use to play 2 or 3 times a month, but now that I have my own child and can’t seem to find other players as easily in this busy world, I probably play once a month.  But I can promise you, I will play until the day I die.

I have some lots of pieces and bags of chips up on eBay if you are interested in some extras without having to buy another game.  Plus HBG has a great site for pieces too.

what about miniaturemarket??? i ordered it off there before i found this thread, does anyone know if that site is good

That is where I order most of my games.  They are close to me, so I usually get them the next day with the free UPS shipping for orders over $100.00.  Never had a problem with them.  I actually got my 1942 2nd editions last Thursday because they shipped on Wdnesday to make sure I had them by release day.

The same scuplts were certainly a bonus for the new players.  I hadn’t thought of it either but when they all commented on it I realized it was important.

    • RE: Release Date?

OK.  Played on Friday night with my friends.  1 regular 1novice and 1 new.  First off I will say I agree that the Axis seems to have a big advantage.  They won on turn 6.  Russia was out on the 2nd turn and England fell on turn 6, and only because of some really bad early rolls by Germany vs England.  Otherwise I think they could have been out by turn 4 or 5 easily.  Japan had taken the east of Asia and some inslands and were at 13 or14 IPCs.  More then enough to keep the US occuppied in the Pacific to keep Germany free from worry. It was fun, but seemed almost too easy for the Axis.  But this is only based on one game.  Could be more balanced, just so happened to go that way this time.

Now for the people playing.  The Novice player realy seemed to pick the rules up quickly and certainly seems willing to move to a game of 1942.  So that was good.  The new player liked the game but was still mind blown at first over the rules.  By the end of turn 3 or 4 they seemed to start to get it.  They said it was fun, but they weren’t real excited over the whole thing.  The good news is they are willing to play again now that they feel more comfortable with the rules.  Hopefully that will swing them.  Of course they loved rolling the dice in my FMG dice tower.  That may have saved the day when they were confused at the beginning.  The transport rules are what really was most difficult to grasp for them.  I understand that.

All in all…a fun night and a fun game.  Hope to play some more soon.

    • RE: Release Date?

I’ll post the results and reactions of the players and whether they like it or not.  The Novice player has played A&A once and was France just so they could watch and try to learn.  It was way too much for them for a first time and they felt lost and kind of walked away thinking they didn’t like the game.  I’m hoping this new game will help ease them into the rules.
The new player is more of a monopoly/trivial Pursuit type game player.  The closest they have come to a A & A game was “Zombies”.  Which is a fun game in itself, but nothing like A & A.  So not close at all actually.

UPS says it is sitting on my front pourch right now!!  Let the game begin!!!

Already set a game up with 3 friends tonight.

With any luck you’ll be playing a game before DJ posts his review. Can you post a recap of your game tomorrow?

I will.  Should be interesting with me being a regular 1-2 time a month 1940 global player, 1 semi-regular player, 1 novice player and 1 new player.  I need to remember patience.  Even though it is an easy game for us, I need to remember the new player knows nothing about simple movement like Tanks can go 2 spaces.

    • RE: Release Date?

Just checked my tracking number and it is on the vehicle for delivery today.  Very excited.  Already set a game up with 3 friends tonight.

I do pay $79 yearly for Amazon Prime.  I buy almost everything I need there.  With no tax and free 2nd day shipping, I feel like I save way more then the $79 I pay and don’t have to wait 1 or 2 weeks with the free super saver shipping Amazon offers.  Plus Amazon usually has pretty good prices.  Equal if not better then most retailers i.e. Target or Best Buy.

Anyways…back on subject…Game tonight.  One person has never played A & A, so this will be a good test to see if I can get them hooked.

I recieved my final set of dice for my Ammo Box.  I love them.  And along with them came a bonus of a very well made pouch with FMG’s Logo.  It’s canvas and has a couple pockets.  Plus a bonus set of Canadian Dice.  Very happy with my purchase and can’t wait to roll some Canadian dice next game.  Thanks FMG
