    • RE: Why are the allies so gimped lately? Why transports suck?

      @Hobbes:

      So far, I disagree with what’s stated above.

      I’ve played 5 games as Allies and only lost 1 - the Allies have some really tough challenges but so do they have already on AA50, AA42 1st Ed and Global.

      The main problem with playing the Allies right now is that people have no idea of what strategies work or not because of the different SZs and the 2 additional ICs. For the Axis the choices are almost the same (specially Germany) so it’s easier to play Axis and win, specially if you’re going KGF.

      To me it is a challenge to figure out the best Allied play. How to set up the US shuck with the different new SZs on the Atlantic. Or how to best use the UK Indian Ocean fleet.

      Just looking at the game and criticizing rejecting the new features/rules just because they are different from previous or not up to our individual expectations, or we don’t want to learn new strats, doesn’t really help improve your gameplay, IMO.

      I completely agree with Hobbes. My group has never had a problem with voles lettered wanting to play both sides. Players rarely play the same nation/side twice in a row.

      And for what it’s worth. I think the aa50 transport rules were one of the best changes A&A has ever made. And let’s face it, aa50 including its transport rules are pretty near perfect. Any game that emulates it so closely has a leg up on any game trying to emulate AAR.

      Just my two opinionated cents.

      I wouldn’t mind giving this a try too. For when im in the mood for more than AA41 but don’t have the time for a real game. I’m thinking 3 hours.

      How about the darker tan uk color from AAE and AAP?  Anyone else interested in this?

      Forest green Canada please. Lets keep colors as standard as possible. And yes I said standard. FMG set the standard for Canada when they produced the Canadian dice which so many of us have. It would be completely lame to use my forest green dice with grey-brown troops.

    • RE: Technology In This Game?

      Officially technology is an optional rule for the Global game only. However, technology works equally as well for Europe only.

      @Bob_A_Mickelson:

      The map has 2 Ipc values on it. I imagine the “50” will be removed in the reprint

      oh that doesn’t bother me. I thought it was something major for a min

      It doesn’t bother you that it’s incorrect?  In neither aap40 or aag40 is wus worth 50 ipcs.

      There pretty close. Not perfect but 98% there. Not noticeable unless your closely examining them. I seriously wouldnt worry.

      I would also like to see forest green Canadian pieces to match FMG Canadian dice if not in this set then in the uk set.

    • RE: Do i buy 1942 or 1942 2nd

      Go with 2nd. No question about it, especially since your fond of AA50. Neitither 1942 comes with tech or money. 1st edition does come with plastic complexes though.

      Btw black German pieces were introduced with Battle of the Bulge. Som later copies of Revised even comes with black Germans.

      AA50 is really the gold standard for A&A. It’s just solid all around IMHO.

    • RE: FMG COMBAT UNITS - Rules: AIR TRANSPORT

      Lately I play them as 8 Ipc defenseless units that can transport 2 inf. there range is 5. So typically they have a round trip range of a fighter unless they take off from airbase and then the round trip is that of a bomber.

    • RE: Not enough units.. How many more?

      This reminds me of classic where you occasionally would have to use a piece paper or a nickel for that 3rd aircraft carrier you bought.

    • RE: Anyone else feel cheated?

      @maxx001:

      You’re not the only one. When I received my copy last Thursday I was also checked too see that there were no ipc, no industrial complex figures and no trays. I have only ever owned the original aa 2nd edition from Milton Bradley and expected the same quality.

      A lot has changed in the past 25ish years. A&A has improved its gameplay and overall appearance greatly. However there have been some setbacks. Namely:

      Last set to include paper money was AA50 in 2008
      Last set to include a full size battle board was AA50 in 2008
      Last set to include plastic complexes was AA42.1 in 2009
      Cardboard AA Guns used in AAP40.1 and AAE40.1 from 2009 & 2010
      No boxes (or plastic inserts) in AA42.1 (2009), AA41 (2012), AA42.2 (2012)
      National production included on board in AA42.1 (2009), AA41 (2012), AA42.2 (2012)

      Don’t get me wrong, these setbacks frustrate me (especially lack of an organizational system) but as a whole the quality of the games have been increasing especially when you consider inflation. IMHO; and I do own every version of the board games excluding NOVA)

    • RE: Release Date?

      @Lozmoid:

      Order update:

      Status:  In transit

      Location: UK

      Event Details: Completed customs clearance process

      Maybe I’ll get my copy before July 18th?!  :-o

      Edit:

      Status:  In transit

      Location: GB

      Event Details: Arrived at destination country

      Confused - I thought it was in the UK already.  :? lol  Oh well.

      Great Britain’s not a country. It’s an island. Perhaps it came from Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man or Sodor!  Ok the Isle of Man isn’t technically part of the UK and Sodor is a fictions Island, but you get my point; or more likely the tracking system is simply sloppy in its inconsistent syntax. Kinda like my punctuation and grammar.

      Either way it’s good to hear you will get your game soon.

    • RE: Best place to Pre-order 1942 2nd ed

      @Variable:

      I am using Coolstuff as well for my pre-order. When I pre-ordered G40 through them before, I had the games on my porch 3 days after the E40 release. Seems like they ship right away! I highly recommend them.

      This is consistant with my experiences from coolStuffinc

      @Cromwell_Dude:

      @CWO:

      The reaction of novice players will be especially interesting since one of the avowed purposes of this particular edition is to introduce new players to the A&A line.

      Well said.

      I would also be quite interested in the reaction (and gaming background) of the novice and new players experience.

      Already set a game up with 3 friends tonight.

      With any luck you’ll be playing a game before DJ posts his review. Can you post a recap of your game tomorrow?
