    • RE: G2 Barbarossa

      G1 Major in Romania, G2 9-10 artillery, G3 10 artillery, G4 10 combo of men and or artillery, G5 Either another combo to push in anther direction or 10 mech to catch your advancing stack that heads for Leningrad. Russia is dreaming if they think they can match it. Also make sure that you NEVER allow them to get their 5$ bonus, it is enough to stop with a single sub.

      This build has been an absolute recipe for pure Soviet crushing strategy. Maximizes your bonuses and allows for you to build up some subs as well to fend off UK and US when they start thinking about coming back to Europe. The in depth rounded strategy would take longer but that is how I steam roll through the Soviets.

      I should also mention that in Alpha set up (how we always play) Japan will always take 2 territories on J1 and a total of 5 by J2 from Russia. Having all those extra men in Manchuria and Korea are just waiting to push those Soviet Far East troops back to the interior.

      I guess I was trying to think of ways to get America involved on mainland Asia but the just might not be realistic.

      Well the quickest way to do that is with planes. Getting land units there means you have an unhampered naval route to China, which means you’re already winning, or you take 15 turns walking there from Africa

      agreed. Your money will is better spend taking back Japanese occupied islands

      @Chompers#2:

      I didn’t count before posting but the main point I was thinking of is Japan seems to have bit to many planes in non alpha set up.  Not saying it makes the game unbalanced but I think it would be cooler to play a Japan with a better mixture of units.

      It is much better and means that Japan actually has to build some planes if they want the same dominance of the skies.

    • RE: G2 Barbarossa

      I will always go Barbarossa when the UK player takes its position seriously and goes all defense the first two rounds of the game, otherwise take London to embarrass them and lose no money in doing so. I however, do not think that going Barbarossa early is a good idea, I have waited until G4 or more often G5 every game and I steam roll through the Soviet forces.

    • RE: Japan's Airforce???

      @Captain:

      Two questions:

      1.  Who thinks Japan is too strong with the 29 planes?  It seems to throw the balance off in the Pacific, and Japan could really cause problems in Europe if the planes fly to Germany. I would rather see Japan have a stronger navy with a couple more transports than have so many planes that can threaten larger areas on the map.

      2.  Is ALPHA going to be official for the global game?  A lot of players on this board seem to think it helps to balance AAP40, but what about global?  Larry Harris has endorsed ALPHA, but it is still not in the official Pacific40 Erata.

      I am one of the few who didn’t think Japan was to strong with 28 planes, but after playing Alpha I prefer it in AAP40 and AAG40 and as both the axis and allied powers.

      Alpha is fast looking to be the new set up but takes time to put into official capacity as Calvin pointed out.

    • RE: KJF KGF and KIF?

      To reiterate slightly, I have always found that as the allies when I have tried balanced strategies they tend to be longer games but the chances of success to not come down to a couple lucky battles as K-1-player-1st strategies always seem to. I will always play a balanced strategy as any player before going all out on one.

    • RE: Recipe for a G4 conquest of Moscow

      I think the largest downfall comes from a zealous Soviet player. I tend to buy very offensively as the Soviets and I think that counter attacks could be a bit of a problem for this strategy. It could delay moves and force Germany and Italy to move through the Soviet Union slower.

      Depends on what you mean by viable. If by that you mean can you win then possibly but it makes for a boring game and is a less reliable way to win than finding a balanced strategy.

      @qwertyuiop:

      Well, i’m actually playing the axis, so i’m glad everyone thinks i can win. I know some debate sea lion and if it should be done, I didn’t….just took france and pushed eastword.

      I do the same, I only perform Sea Lion when the UK doesn’t defend well enough. If they do not take a sea lion threat seriously then I will always take the opportunity to embarrass them.

    • RE: Can't win a Global game with Sea Lion

      @zooooma:

      @Blitchga:

      Sea Lion is only a viable strategy from what I have seen if UK does not take the threat seriously and does not therefor defend its capital with enough and does not bring the carrier and destroyer from Morocco back to the North Atlantic.

      Or perhaps if USA is busy in the Pacific?

      True, but then you have the game already because you are playing allies who are unsure of how to keep the grand strategy in mind.

      @Gargantua:

      Quickly knock the board over, and make it look like it was someone else that did it.  That way it will be the game that no one can confirm you lost.

      haha, you could always pose some sort of stampede through the game room, know any young children, they would be good for this… haha

      See my thread about balance. Called repect: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=20622.0

      As for balance, no one can say it is or isn’t so lets to come up with strategies rather than pointing fingers.

    • RE: Can't win a Global game with Sea Lion

      I have had people attempt sea lion in several of our games. The fact seems to be that if UK plays smart and anticipates a Sea Lion strategy from the beginning no matter what Germany does then they can either fend off the German assault or make it so expensive that Russia then rolls over them on the eastern front.

      Sea Lion is only a viable strategy from what I have seen if UK does not take the threat seriously and does not therefor defend its capital with enough and does not bring the carrier and destroyer from Morocco back to the North Atlantic.

    • RE: Respect

      I think the consensus and point I was trying to make has been made. Keep attacks on the game away from these boards. The game is balanced as far as we can tell and new strategies just need to be created and found. Anyone who claims otherwise is delusional.

    • RE: Most viable turn to declare war as the Axis

      @Sgt.:

      In AAP40 my one game as Japan resulted in a pretty easy win due to going all out on J1. But in Global you have to consider the USA getting that massive IPC boost if you attack UK/ANZAC. I find the best strategy is to focus on taking China and killing any Russian INF that get too close. Dare the UK to attack you early, if they do you get a free shot at the DEI.

      That wont work as easily with alpha set up… J1 attack in Alpha is usually a bad idea if the allies know what they are doing.

    • Respect

      I need to point out that people need to stop assuming that Larry Harris is unable to make a game. If you think that the game is imbalanced it is probably because you need to sit down and think up some strategies for whatever side you feel is underpowered. Nerfing the opposition is not a viable fix, it is a band aid to people’s inability to be creative.

      Even if something did turn out to be imbalanced then it would be impossible to find out this soon after release.

      I say people show some respect and keep their temper tantrums to themselves. If they can’t phrase things with some logic and nicely then perhaps they should abide by the age old saying and say nothing at all. The game is not broken, you are broken. Stop complaining about the US income and use your brain to discover axis strategies that work.

      This is directed at no one in particular but rather at the community as a whole, myself included. Lets stop jumping to conclusions and instead be thankful for the great job and effort that went into this fantastic game. If we really thought we could do so much better than perhaps we should have done so and created our own game. Since we haven’t lets give credit where credit is due.

      Thanks for a great game Larry.

    • RE: Balancing Ideas?

      The game isn’t imbalanced at all. Strategies just need to be developed. Even if the game does turn out to be imbalanced it is impossible to find out this early after release. Nothing needs to be changed.

      Sorry I forgot to mention that one thing that people should really do before complaining at all is try out the Alpha set up as it makes the game infinitely better than OOB version.

    • RE: How to balance Global 1940?

      I am terrified of the ability of some of these Japanese players out there. If the US spent NOT A THING in the Pacific then hello a Japan making MORE than the US by J5 at the latest. Japan can equalize income with the US very quickly. A Good Japanese player is like a pulsating bubble that will continue to grow on ALL fronts without serious intervention from the US. As an axis player I love to see a US player go all in on one theatre, I will often offer the allies my hand to accept their surrender unless the US wakes up. As an allied player I would offer my hand in surrender if my US player went 100% to one theatre.
