I took my 1999 Europe, 2001 Pacific, 2004 Revised, 1942, 1942 2nd edition, and 1941 and put them into Artbins. Like you, I left specific campaign, global, and AA50th in their boxes.

Sometimes we will use British bomber(s) to hit Northern Italy IC.
US bombers based in London often will hit Normandy, S France and France ICs. Sometimes will hit W Germany if German player doesn’t have too many fighters to intercept. Also will hit Germany if Allies control Norway or Novgorod for bombers to land.
If US Navy is doing well in the Pacific, US usually takes Iwo Jima and lands bombers there to pound Japan’s facilities. Often escorted by Carrier planes.

Strangely enough, don’t usually do a lot of SBRs with Axis bombers.

Egypt IC is h20 solid. Depends on your overall strategy in relation to the axis.

you can get fighters to fly to russia 2) you can do the convoy thing to italy 3) you can guard it with 3 inf a turn spam 4) sometimes you need naval for Japan and shazam wam bam there you go!

      When is it not good?

persia is a faster route to flying fighters to russia 2) Italy not an issue and you making naval off of london to do drops 3) if you lose the complex before using it or will lose it anyway 4) union can be used to pump out naval for Japan if you really need to do it.

      @BJCard:

So a British IC in Persia or Iraq is recommended if someone does this?  I’ve never really liked an Egypt IC.

For me, I would have needed at least two ICs in the Egypt-Persia belt.  But you pretty much need them before the Axis show up in Turkey, otherwise you won’t have enough units to hold the area.

It seems vital for the UK to have an Egypt IC down by at least UK2, preferably UK1, but this opens you up to the potential of a Sea Lion.  It’s a very catch-22 situation for the UK which I discussed at length in this other thread:

Such is life. You try, and try harder, and succeed. And then something stupid happens.

True… but if Japan’s choices are destroy the american pacific fleet, destroy the joint indian/chinese army, or destroy the russian army- they probably kill american fleet utterly, buying them several turns of dominance in the sea to systematically win asia.

It appears there will be Naval Bases pre-printed on the board, allowing powers to place naval units and denoting which sea zones are mined, but so far that seems to be all they do.

Original Europe.  Just a great game overall for new folks. And still fun for grizzled vets.

Well, stacking in Yunnan proved to be a bad plan.  Japan hit it with everything and with a 55% win chance, took it with a tank and lost 5 Fighters.  However, with India’s fighters gone now (died in Yunnan), and China’s stack gone- nothing will stop Japan from Calcutta and taking all of China.  Combine this with the Luftwaffe crushing the combined British/American fleet off of Gibraltar (made possible by Italian landing in Gibraltar), this game is over.  Russia was doing fairly well after taking Norway, Finland, and Iraq, but it was the only position that was doing ok.  (This with the German stack in East Poland on Turn 2).

So, with the writing on the wall at the end of Turn 2 (!!) I conceded.

What to do better against the G1:J1 onslought?
#1 Be more conservative with India and China - stacking Yunnan Turn 1 proved to be fatal- in one fell swoop, Japan crushed the mainland asian allies’ main forces.  Sacrificing all Indian ships to slow the Japanese was not effective.  I just traded a DD and CA for a Transport and 2 DD.  Didn’t phase Japan at all- and India has no ships.  A “fleet-in-being” in the Indian ocean forces the Japanese to split up their fleet a little.
#2 Even with a G1, Russia has time- especially if it is taking Iraq and tactically retreating, avoiding the big stack battle.  The bigger threat in the early rounds is Pacific victory, so the USA should spend 75-80% of its $$ in the Pacific.
#3 Don’t stack Gibraltar SZ until you can hold it and land troops in Gibraltar if Italy looks like it can take it.  As the UK, concentrate on holding Africa after a sealion looks unlikely.
#4 As UK, slowly build up a fleet at Canada- Thos Gerrman Subs laround the UK are annoying, but its more annoying to lose your fleet piecemeal.

However, it sounds like Italy is the only Ally that will be able to produce in the Med. If Austria goes hard for them, who knows what turkey might be able to do.

You’d think it would be easier to set-up the subforum and move the threads as appropriate now, before the release date.  Wouldn’t you?
