Do people actually lose Cairo with a Taranto attack? Italy is all but out of the game when this happens and requires little additional UK support in Africa, especially if Taranto goes very well for the UK.

Response to a G1 Barbarossaposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
If Germany attacks G1 concentrating on East Poland (of course doing the other normal attacks, France UK Navy) and subsequently buys Mech/Arm every turn to get to Moscow ASAP- there doesn’t seem to be anything Russia can do to stop them.
They could buy all Infantry, tactically retreat to Moscow, and hole up, which maybe the best course of action- but at that point Russia cannot counterattack anything significant (only a couple tanks, art, and its starting air). How many territories between Poland and Moscow? Thats how many turns it takes to get there. You may be able to hold Moscow, but Germany will get everything else and Russia will be out of the game.
You cannot devote enough troops to take Iraq; you cannot send any help to China/India.UK can still neuter the Italian fleet(I always do this- makes it all but impossible for Italy to get Cairo for a long while, if ever), but is still forced to buy mostly Inf in the UK in case Germany wants to Sealion.
Even on the 2nd turn the UK cannot create/merge a landing fleet near the UK to set up a landing on UK3 because Germany will station its airforce in W Germany; Therefore the UK is now waiting for the US to turn up for help, which may be turn 4 at the earliest. With this setup, the USA has to spend heavily in the Atlantic- giving Japan a much easier road to victory in the Pacific. But what to buy as USA? You cannot buy too many transports or the fleet will get killed by German counterattacks- therefore your landing force is likely 3 or 4 transports worth on turn 4- not much for the Germans to lose sleep over.
What do you guys think? How to combat a G1,J2 or G1,J3?

RE: Unit Descriptions…posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
While I would enjoy an Axis & Allies 1940 version or setup that was more historically accurate, it would be extremely difficult to win as the Axis. Particularly as Japan.

RE: Unit Descriptions…posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Not sure how anyone that loves Axis & Allies/ WWII History would not use normal naming conventions- CV, BB, CA, DD, SS, AP…
-
RE: Unit Descriptions…posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
BB, CV, SS, DD, AP, and CA are naval terminology.
This is only used by a few engineers at shipyards, and only in USA.
These are naming conventions used for actual hulls of ships… CV(N)-68 is the USS Nimitz while the Submarine I served on is the SS(N)-772.

RE: Japanes Pacific conquest - preliminary thoughts.posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
A Russia who builds exclusively Infantry and Artillery will have more land units than Germany will by G5.
I would absolutely LOVE it if I as Germany faced a Russia with lots of units on the front lines! It would make it easy to carve up Russia’s army piecemeal.
Russia should buy Inf/Artillery and mass into a couple big armies… constantly giving up ground for time. When opportunity arises, counter attack those German tank stacks and you will blunt the German spear.

RE: How to balance Global 1940?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
We’ve had the Axis win 3 of 4 games, with no Sealion. Japan simply has too many aircraft (Even with Alpha setup)- the US even with 80 IPCs- cannot compete. Japan usually makes 60+ and is pushing hard through China to Russia is our games.

RE: Technology is a bad strategic investmentposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I’d rather have a guarantee of more units to subsequently roll dice with then hope for tech that really isn’t game breaking.

RE: Sealion counterposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Germany putting too much IPCs in the water spells doom against Russia… With landing 20+ troops in England round 3, how many troops do you even have left on continental Europe?
-
RE: USA Too many IPCs? Too much Power?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I understand what you are saying, but I don’t think the Allies have that much help- 18 Russian Inf? If they mass near Japan, they are wiped by a few Japanese troops and 10+ aircraft. If they retreat then they are no threat to Japan. Indian troops help in Africa? That much easier for Japan to nab India.

RE: USA Too many IPCs? Too much Power?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I guess I just don’t think 40 IPCs per Ocean is all that much for the US. What is that? (examples:)
Atlantic:
2 Transports (14 IPCs), 2 Arm (12 IPCs), 2 Inf (6 IPCs), 1 DD (8 IPCs) = 40 IPCs. Whoa thats a LOT of firepower for the Atlantic! What will Germany do? Say, buy 4 Inf (12 IPCs), which give you 8 defence pips vs. the 8 attacking pips the USA can throw at you. Granted, you may need to build 4 Inf at multiple ICs, however with 50-60 IPCs/turn, it is easy to buy ~6 Inf/turn for the Atlantic Wall while still keeping pressure on Russia. Hell, you won’t be sending any Infantry to the Russian front after turn 3 or so (After that you are looking at turn 8 or 9 before they get anywhere).Pacific:
1 CV (16 IPCs), 2 Ftr (20 IPCs), 1 SS (6 IPCs) = 42 IPCs. Maybe not the best buy depending on if they need carriers. Other navy based options include:
1 CA (12 IPCs), 2 DD (16 IPCs), 2 SS (12 IPCs) = 40 IPCs. Whoa Japan is screwed! All Japan has to do is mass its surface fleet at Truk, the Philippines, or Japan with 10 or so Fighters with scramble ability and they are nigh untouchable for several turns; long enough for India and China to fall.I’m not sure the USA can fight effectively in both theaters of war with such little built each turn. If you ignore one theater, then Germany or Japan goes hog wild. Hell, Europe by itself was made with a 60+ IPC USA to join the war at the end of turn 3, while the Pacific by itself was made with a 60+ IPC USA to join the war at the end of turn 1,2,or 3. Why isn’t USA’s total IPCs 120ish?
By the way, in incredibly scientific terms verified by myself:

RE: USA Too many IPCs? Too much Power?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I dunno. With the USA spending 80% of each turn’s IPCs in the Pacific, I still could not crack Japan’s Navy, or take any of Japan’s major islands- they simply have too much of a head start on the US in terms on Naval and Air power. Maybe they don’t make enough money?

RE: Challengeposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Its hard for me to understand how people believe the game is weighed towards the allies- with Sealion at such a high percentage and Japan having more aircraft than all other powers combined… In fact, I have played 3 games so far and haven’t seen an Allied victory.
What do the allies do in your games? What does the US do>?
-
RE: Challengeposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Just lost to Axis. 2nd full game (1st serious game). Japan has too many aircraft. Thats it. I’m starting to think that the KGF/KIF is the only real option (which I hate to ignore the Pacific). With Japan starting off with such a massive fleet and airforce, I cannot build a US Fleet to match or beat the Japanese stack- with 60 IPCs going Pacific! Subs are no good- they defend at 1 and can’t hit his aircraft.

RE: 1st game of global after six rounds. Plus three.posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Interesting…
No british land forces in South Africa? I tend to buy at least 2 ground forces down there every turn.
Soviet Battleship survived? If I’m Germany I wouldn’t let it past denmark- hence it is going to probably die.
German Carrier in the med? Interesting. How does Italy have its Battleship? Did you buy one or did the UK not do the Taranto raid?

I love these. Honestly though, I’d rather see the National Objectives on them than the Neutrality rules. (Or both like AAP40)

RE: German Push into USSRposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
You guys keep talking about buying Minor Industrial Complexes to get infantry to the front, but what about just building infantry?
Play it kind of like old A&A europe. Build a crapton of infantry the first turn. something like 3 inf in Berlin, 7 inf in West germany for 1 or 2 rounds. Start moving those Inf to the front on turn 2. Turn 2-3 and beyond, buy a couple Inf for France and tanks/mech to catch up to the Inf on the front line. -

IL- in the situation that Germany buys 1 DD, 3 AP,- Where do the tanks come from to attack the UK with? You still take Paris, right?
