      here is some information from the harrison book concerning Italy and here economic capabilities in 1942.

      Here’s another roughly accurate source of of GDP listings through-out the ages.

      I’ve redone all the IPC values for my games awhile ago. I assigned a value to every territory on the board including neutrals, except for the Sahara and some of the itty-bitty pacific islands.
      After several revisions, I’ve settled with the following numbers…

      USSR 47 (before germany invaded)
      Germany (and nations under its influence) 119
      British Empire 92 (India alone is 22)
      Japanese Empire 55
      USA (states only + panama) 172 :-o

      China 24 (split between US and Japan)
      South America 25

      Russia simply has no chance and is always crushed by Germany if you use the revised or classic maps original unit setups. :cry:
      The game does get fun and out of hand very quickly dealing with tons of IPCs and huge masses of units. :-D

      There’s also Dogs of War, you can add more, modify IP value and change loyalties of every territory and even modify or add new sea zones. You can even change the unit allocation, add more or less pieces, whatever. I even changed the sound effects on mine…. The AI is bit on the weak side though, but its still fun.

      Depends what your in the mood for, it gets boring being the same nation many times in a row. And there is no “best” country, its simply a matter of preference and style of warfare.

      It doesn’t really matter, The game is already over with japan taken out. I think it would be ok to let germany attack japanese forces. I would allow it. Makes my job easier.

      I like territory layout and the fact that Japan can’t march into China any further. The free french territories are also off limits. The smaller IPC count helps prevent the board from being too cluttered. The original A-bomb tech rules!

      Give the Russia restricted rule a twist.

      Russia cannot attack Germany on their first turn, but can attack Japan instead.

      Germany gets initiative over Russia which has initiative over Japan.

      No one’s ever bothered with tech roles in all the games I’ve played. Nearly all of them are not very decisive in game play, well except for 1 of them. Heck we’ve even forgotten to apply the national advantages as well most of the time. Point is, its a game and as long as everyone is having fun, then theres no need to go getting all crazy with complicated tech rules and many paged documents of additional game rules. The board game is a vague representation of world war 2. any more realism and you should play or design some other game.

      Historically give western US 1/3 of it.
      For game balance give them 1/2 of course.
      Most of the wartime effort went to KGF.

      If you want a 6th player, split the USA. One plays Eisenhower at Europe, the other plays Nimitz at Pacific

      How about these varient pieces such as,

      Blockhouses (I use the mall units from Tri-opoly)
      Improves infantry defense to 3 on a matching 1/1 basis. Must have at least 1 infantry in territory to construct. Units hit by a blockhouse during an amphibious assault cannot counter-attack on the first round.
      During an offshore bombardment from a battleship, hits are assigned to blockhouses first.
      Finland/Norway, Germany, and Western Europe each start with one.
      Atk: 0
      Def: 3
      Move: 0
      Cost: 5

      Half Tracks (includes armored cars)
      Can blitz as a tank.
      Considered a tank when transporting.
      Carries 1 infantry OR 1 artillery, 2 spaces.
      Starting placement: On every territory that contains 1 infantry and 1 tank.
      Atk: 2
      Def: 2
      Move: 2
      Cost: 5

      LHP / LHA / LHD
      Carries 1 fighter and 2 infantry units, no artillery or tanks (If you use chopper units they carry that instead of fighters)
      Atk: 1
      Def: 3
      Move: 2
      Cost: 16 (same as carrier)

      Im sure if you invaded a neutral they would immediately respond with an army /navy of their own to stop you and even declare war on your nation. (Use those optional rules for neutrals and their armies) If anyone I play who moves all their forces into a neutral for 3 IPC’s, I wait my turn and shake-up the board and yell “Earthquake!”

      Yea, like a huge map that covers the entire area of a pool table would be fine. I even made a version from a world map that you hang on the wall and europe was still to small and crammed with those blasted Nazis. I dont like using the blowup boxes or the marshal cards or the white and red tokens either. I’ve got plenty of units but no room, Might just print out a huge map that uses 40+ sheets I guess then laminate it…

      So during amphibious assault we have…

      step 1) battleship offshore bombardment (1 shot each)
      step 2) seige artillery attacks landing units and transports (1 shot each)
      step 3) normal combat resumes
