      @billinjackson:

      Was just thinking, given the Japanese victory objectives, has anyone made an early run at Australia? Here’s my thought. Turn 1 - press China on the ground and build a coplex in asia to support. Also divert a big portion of your fleet loaded with transports to the Caroline Islands. Turn 2 - Keep pressing China hard working towards a strike on India. Tanks from your production facility. Your fleet at Caroline now attacks, utilizing the extra movement from the Naval yard, Ausralia and lands as many units as possible on the continent. By turn three you should have Sydney all the while getting that fleet back into position for the US.

      Thoughts as to whether this might work?  :?

      Bill

      Ok, so I did it. I gathered half my fleet at the Caroline Islands with three transports loaded. Now, Anzac was an inexperienced player, that much I have to point out, but the allies, in general, felt I was gathering for Hawaii and made no defensive preps for Australia. In fact they left no naval units adjacent to Queensland and pushed up to New Guinea. So Queensland is where I hit with bombardments, planes and an invasion. Australia was taken and the allies felt they lost the pacific. It inevitably led to an early surrender.

      To Cmndr Jennifer’s point, it was a complete surprise attack!

      @Andi:

      Wonderful idea. I’m playing against my wife. I’m going to translate it into German and add a little annex saying sonething about housework / week / my Master :-D

      That’s precious! I always joke with my wife expressing she is just a product of my rib. She’s got a great sense of humor and has no issue dishing it back though.  :-D

    • RE: How much should be forgiven?

      @JimmyHat:

      I guess it depends on what your goal is in playing the game.  Is it to win?  Or is it to get better?  I play to improve my game, so I appreciate when my opponent points out my mistakes and I try to do the same.

      I really appreciate this sentiment. I also like to think I play just to get better but my competitive side seems to always trump the gentleman in me especially when playing with experienced players… :wink:

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      That is funny.  In some games I have played, when the game has gone on too long and one side is beaten but not militarily defeated, we often have a round of surrender negotiations.

      It is kind of silly, but fun at the same time.

      LOL, that’s just it. Silly but a ton of fun. And, yes, I will pay a huge price when I finally lose. I will enjoy it as much as them though… lol.

    • A valuable lesson in humility

      Declaration of Surrender.

      My 12-year-old son and I (Axis) just beat my 15 year old son and his buddy a little while ago. Not all together surprising as I have a lot of experience and they are coming along well but still lack being in the trenches. What makes this game really pleasurable is that for them to surrender, which they did, I made them sign a declaration of surrender. It stated:

      “ I –------- & ---------- do declare that we have been bested by a superior intellect. We have been crushed to submission. We whimper and grovel at the feet of our conquerors. We relent and choose serfdom to resistance.
      x----------------
      x----------------“

      I took pictures of the official signing ceremony and texted it to my sons friends mom who is also a good friend of my wife and I. She thanked me for teaching her son a lesson in humility.

      Again, its fun being a Dad!  :-D

    • RE: 8 VCs?

      @Pvt.Ryan:

      Okay so I’m confused. This makes me sound like a nooby but I only count 7 VCs on the Pacific board. Honalulu, San Francisco, Manila, Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Calcutta. Whats the eighth? I’m having an off day so maybe I just missed one but what is it?  :?

      Your question wasn’t too bad. Mine is worse. Can you win with accomplishing victory cities on one front while not having them on the other. In other words, if I am Germany and I hit my victory conditions do we win despite Japan not doing so?

      @BARKER:

      how long do you or can you play until you catch hell–-me about 8 hours

      The key is to get your kids involved. I have 5 boys and 4 are actively playing with me (also their friends). Now, playing Axis and Allies is just being a good Dad.  :wink:

      Brilliant! I’d also think it would be being a good husband as your wife gets a ‘break’ from the boys.

      Exactly! Had a great game of global Friday night into Saturday with my 12 year old as Japan, myself with Germany and Italy, my 15 year old with Russia and China and three of his friends dividing up the rest of the allies. Their all hooked… The wife was elated.  :wink:

    • RE: How is the balance with the new Alpha 2 changes? Please give your view.

      For improved balance, what do you guys think if we pushed Russia and USA entry into the campaign up one spot? Russia turn 3, USA turn 2? Maybe just one of them? Thoughts?

    • RE: Generals for AA games

      @Imperious:

      OK but they should be helping a nation win. I hardly think they kept them employed if they constantly lost the battle…except for Goering and most Italian commanders.

      I’ve printed these out and play tested them on AA42 and it was interesting. We dished them out, one per turn. By the end of the game there were too many on the board it seemed. I think a limit of 3 per nation or something of the sort would work well. Anyone else have thoughts post play test?

      Anyone play this game? Is it good? The pieces look pretty cool. Can they be used in Axis and allies?

      Thanks for your thoughts in advance.

    • RE: Question?

      @reloader-1:

      They’ve certainly faded in popularity. However, they are still being produced.

      Is it that you can’t necessarily get what you want in boosters vs the ability to pick your units in Flames of War? I ask because I am on the fence as to which to invest in.

      Thanks
