      I typically play with the alpha.

      Japan strategy plays out pretty much the same, except I think its probabaly better to attack J2 or 3, especially in Global. Spend you extra time in China and amalgamate your fleet. Build some planes to defend the islands with airbases. Badda-boom.

      Yes if Germany could have some of those occur they might have been in a position to end the war under some sort of terms in their favor. But it had to occur before late 1942, as anything past that date simply would have postponed the war and led to germany getting nuked. Germany was never serious about developing the A-Bomb (Read Albert Speers book Inside the Third Reich)

      The US did not seriously begin working on the A-bomb until 1943 and if Britain did not exist in late 1942 maybe the US makes the commitment, maybe they don’t. More likely is the British Government flees to Canada and with the US help continues to fight as a Free British force.

      Yea that’s why I suggested keeping the CV out of the battle and placing it w/French fleet in sz 93 to pick up surviving air units. I don’t see expensive CV’s making to many attacks any more. They have no attack value, and can’t have planes return if hit. I like it that way, seems more of what there role was. I guess there is the occasional suicide run, where you take it in just to soak up hits. Sometimes that will get you an extra roll out of your air units. I would at least try to make sure any surviving air has an alternate place to land though, hate loosing air for that reason.

      Yes the holding of Iwo Jima inspires 1million man hours of work in the Japanese homeland and when it is captured they get discouraged and leave their jobs.

      When you put it that way, it sure does sound odd.

      Nevertheless, sometimes that’s the way that these human intangibles like ‘morale’ actually behave.

      Think about it: as a Japanese citizen, why would you keep slaving for the Imperial cause (say, digging coal) if you knew that the war was a lost cause, and that the Empire would be dismantled by the Americans in a matter of weeks? And what better sign that the US is winning in the Pacific than by their taking an island within comfortable bombing distance of Tokyo, with no other land mass in the way to stop them from doing so?

      Under those circumstances, if you were at all aware of the gravity of the situation (about to be firebombed and then nuked… twice!), you’d be running to find a nice cave to shelter in, rather than clocking in for work as usual.

      Losing Iwo Jima: 1 IPC.
      Saving your own a$$: priceless.

      If it takes 7 turns to take out India after a J1 attack, you or your opponents aren’t playing Japan correctly. It should fall on J3 or J5 at the latest. All these strategies about bleeding Japan of IPC’s via convoy attacks is amusing. The game should be over by the time anything is in position to attack the convoys in sufficient strength to hurt Japan.

      ah, but i see now you guys play with the straight India attack
      we used the huge mainland IC tactic
      but still, it should be possible to hold axis

      I do have one question concerning US not yet at war. Say Japan is still only at war w/China in the 2nd round. The UK/US have moved ships to say sz 43 (Borneo). Japan attacks the UK (unprovoked) in sz 43 immediately bringing the UK/Anzac into the war. This act is also considered a Dec of War w/US as well.

      Can Japan still ignore the US ships there, or does this attack also mean you must attack the US ships because your intent will bring the US into the war (like now having to declare a convoy attack on your turn). It will also make a difference if you can bombard Borneo as well if there are no UK surface war ships, only US surface war ships in the sz.

      Japan may declare war on UK/ANZAC only and ignore any US ships in the sea zone.  Of course, this means that Japan will be unable to atack any US forces or territories that turn.  The US will then be eligible to declare war on Japan on its next turn.

      I move the transport on Carolines to Japan J1, and I buy one also on J1.  Both of these move to Carolines on J2 with 1 Infantry and 1 Arty each, along with the subs I buy on J1.  J3 I land 2 trans on Phils, hit Hong Kong from both sides and some air, and look for a place to expand from the Carolines with the troops I have there.  I shuttle troops in from Japan on J3 so I can keep my momentum from the Carolines.  I usually take a DEI island from the Carolines on J3, but I am ready for other opportunities.  Basically, on J3 I want to shut down all the Allied extra income.  One problem is making sure the US is threatened enough not to go after the home island.

      I expect to buy a lot of DDs, SSs, Infantry and Arty as Japan while I get the ball rolling.

      my plan is to whack out brits of the war, abnd that’s to cut down DEI income and take malay for IC ASAP
      so no carolines for me :)

      I don’t think you’ve ever given an answer to anyone who has asked you what the Allies are doing in all of your games. And yes, I have tried a J1 attack. We weren’t able to finish the game, and Japan was ahead when we quit, but it was a much closer game then the game where I attacked J2.

      That’s true. I was playing Japan and UK attacked me UK2. I could send almost all aircrafts to kill off Brits without having to worry about US fighting me in US3.

      Im a little disapointed I bought a game that needs “corrections”
      Ill kick, ill beg, and ill get 50 points of negitive karma to voice my opinion that these corrections come down from the heavens differently

      However. When they do, I will abide by them. Because thats why there are rules.
