      I find it funny that so many people claim imbalance on the Allies side when I’ve seen just as many people talking about dominating as the CP’s. I know anecdotes don’t necessarily imply data, but c’mon. I’ve personally won twice as the Central Powers.

      I think one of the problems with people’s perception is that (pre-tournament rules, I have yet to try them out) the game is slow and goes for so long that eventually one side just gives up, and this doesn’t give an accurate representation of whether the game is balanced or not.

      I prefer the neutrals rules in 1914 over G40 ones

      Is the game not balanced under the new tourney rules?

      Yeah, coastal artillery is awesome, but they will generally try to side step them if they get a chance to.

      Good work Hobbes on getting a working V5/V6 going.  It’s nice to see such a quick transition from game release, to TripleA readiness!

      Just don’t pay too much attention to the graphic look… I couldn’t wait anymore until my ordered Spring 1942 2nd Ed arrives at my local store (takes quite a while usually) ;)

      @Gargantua:

      Actually if you look at ALL the Axis and Allies games…

      they all kind of have this place called Berlin, and Moscow/Russia…

      Yup. Took me a while to find them on the Battle of Bulge map though. The Germans had to liberate Antwerp, then switch back to defeat the Soviet attack on Berlin and make a victorious push towards Moscow by round 129… that was quite a game.

      You laugh, but I’ve always thought that it would be an amazing experience (assuming one had the interest and time) to play a mini-game every time you use the battle board: ‘zooming in’ for the tactical battles, and ‘zooming out’ for the strategic campaigns.

      Ideally, there’d be a mini-board corresponding to every territory and sea zone on the main (Global 40) board; you’d move to the mini-board for each battle, multiply the number of units by 10 (for instance), fight it out to the death, and then place the remaining units back on the board, dividing the number of units by 10 (rounding up if the remainder is 6 or more, rounding down if the remainder is 5 or less).

      The design of these mini-boards would be an engaging project for a committed and enthusiastic hobbyist… Any takers? Or will I have to do this myself? ;)

      Wasn’t that the idea behind the second edition PC version?

      If that doesn’t satisfy you try “Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots” for PC. Strategic moves on a global map, then zoom in so you can taste the blood.

      game is not released yet and we need an f.a.q.

      this sea zone connection issue is difficult to asses.

      does the north sea (sz6) connect to the celtic sea (i believe sz8 but hard to see on map)?

      i believe it does but is hard to see on the pictures that djensen has kindly posted of the setup.
      http://www.flickr.com/photos/djensen47/7362454904/sizes/k/in/photostream/

      it would make sense as that connection is larger than the connection of the following sz which all have connections

      baltic-north sea
      Atlantic-Mediterranean
      mediterranean-black sea

      however axis and allies is not always geographically correct, it is just a board game.

      @Frontovik:

      do AC’s and fighters each block for 1 IPC too?

      Aircraft carriers can be used to block enemy surface ships from passing through the sea zone in which the aircraft carrier occupies (if thats what you mean by block). Also, an Aircraft carrier may be used to disrupt enemy convoys if it meets the necessary requirements. However, in Alpha+2 games, aircraft on carriers or otherwise may not disrupt convoys (if thats what you mean by block).

      I am working on a game very similar.  Just waiting for all the COMBAT UNITS to take it to the next level.  Here are some of the prototype image.

      isn’t it Quattara (might be mistaken) Depression instead of dipression? ^^

      It might be…  This is only a mock-up for playtesting.

      @mantlefan:

      That Italy/Uk battle by big is a surprise. Did UK put a ftr on malta for scramble? What was on the carrier?

      This is what I see there:

      UK CV with 1 ftr, tac, BB cru, DD, 1 scrambling

      Italy: Sub, BB, DD, 2 Cru, Bmb

      If you can remember, was that it?

      You are close.  UK did not have a BB in the Med, at least not in their battle with the Italians.  Also, I think I sent both of Italy’s fighters into this battle.  The bomber was used against Greece.  Yeah, that battle was a bloodbath for the Italians and British.
      We finished this game today.  The Axis won in 7 rounds - 8 VCs on Europe board.  Germany absolutely smashed Russia.  I think our Russian player just got confused with the extra front opened by the transports in the Black Sea.  Made the war much easer for Germany.  Got them a lot of points from the Middle-East NOs way earlier than normal.  In fact, in most of our games, Italy ends up getting them.
      Japan came close to getting  6 of 8 on the Pacific board too.  Held Honolulu for 3 rounds.  Then, in last round they took Sydney but USA got Honolulu back.
      Overall, I can’t say that Alpha+3 is that much different from Alpha +2.  The Axis certainly had a good time of it in this game.  Since Germany didn’t take London, the “Russia attacks after London falls” rule didn’t apply.  The new AA gun rule is interesting.  I think it still pretty much depends on the skill of players and what choices they make.

      @Frontovik:

      can germany take those 9 IPC, or take them away from russia?

      No.

      @Frontovik:

      would it be good idea to represent those 9 IPC by the pacific part of russia, but only playing europe?
      if so, with or without 18 inf and AA gun?

      Possibly.

      everybody is complaining US going 100% in pacific ruins the game
      well, in my games US does hardly something (let japan rot): they have hard time conquering india and containing Anzacs with very little support, and meanwhile italy is pummeled and germany stops its supply to eastern front cause allies can threaten with a whole lot of troops to conquer europe and berlin…

      I really don’t understand what do you want us to say…

      They can only ask the Germans for permission to do so,  Germany can grant or deny this movement.

      Regardless of the German decision, Russia stay’s neutral.
