    • RE: So how do the Allies win again?

      @Tavenier:

      Yes, taking DNG is enough, because the other three ter are already ANZAC.

      I have played five games so far. Three times the allies won and twice Japan. I agree with the comment that the allies come back later in the game. I think one of the strategies you could use is giving multiple targets. The three bombers on the three island with an AB is a good example. Japan can only take one and it will give him logistical headaches. Because the tran he uses needs protection, and stuff like that.

      Yesterday I won as the allies while I was getting my a** kicked in the first 10 rounds, or something. India had fallen and Japans naval force was extremely large. I did a very daring move to the Japanese coast and took Korea and Manchuria. I put two destroyers in the seazones to block of the big Japanese fleet, so I could hold Korea for another turn. He wasn’t able to get it back and I build a minor IC on it and landed every single plane that could reach it, thus sacrificing my fleet. Elsewhere I attacked a smaller Japanese fleet with three trannies in it with my ANZAC subs and planes.

      I build three tanks in Korea and upgraded it to a major IC. He lacked trannies so he could only land 4 land units and get all his planes in action. But with the captured AA (Manchuria) I had a force of about 7 land units, an AA and about 10 planes. He lost that battle and in the mean time ANZAC was capturing DEI and China was recapturing the Burma. China still lived while they were once only two ter left. But with some luck and my fig intact and with the help of Manchurian IPC they could reclaim their lands steadily.

      Japan gave up and the allies won their third victory. So I think to state that Japan is overpowered is a bit exagerated. You can gain a lot of ter and income fast, but to keep a hold on them while the US is growing and the other three (or in this case two) are harassing you with small skirmishes and a lot of ANZAC subs to kill lone ships and raid vonvoy boxes, that’s the difficulty!

      you smash all Allies round 1 (phillipines, kwantung, british fleet and such.
      you place IC in kwantung of 10, move entire fleet to carolins and waith 5 more rounds = victory of japan
      US can never defeat the 30 japanese air units and the kwantung IC will overpower chinsese and India

    • RE: J1 attack Hawaii?

      @bigopfer:

      I prefer J2 attacking.

      In my game last night, I was Japan. J1 I split up my navy sending some ships down to sz36 and the majority of my navy to Caroline Islands with 2 trannies carrying 1inf/1art, 1inf/1tank, and the trannie in Caroline grabbing 1inf off of Palau. I took 4 territories in China including Yunan, and took FIC. I also flew extra planes and bomber down to Caroline. (If I remember right Caroline had 2 carriers each w/ 1fig 1 tac, 1 battleship, 2 destroyers, 1 sub, 1 cruiser, Islands had 1 bomber, 2 tac, 2 figs, 4inf, 1 art, 1 tank).

      Settling on Caroline Islands that turn just really makes allies have to make choices. ANZAC sent their 3 ships to sz46 and landed 1inf on New Guinea.

      The UK took Celebes and Java each w/ 1inf, left trannies undefended. Left Battleship, Destroyer, Cruiser at Malaya. He moved all his figs and his tac bomber to Shan State along with 3 infantry, moved ground units in India to Burma.

      USA was like, “WTF”, and just moved all their navy to Hawaii along with 1inf and 1 tank, moved 1 bomber to Hawaii, moved 1 bomber to Queensland.

      China attcked Yunan but couldn’t retake it and all attackers and defenders where killed. Japan held on.

      Then J2 I blew up Hawaii navy and took islands, blew up all british ships, blew up ANZAC ships, blew up all British aircraft and units in SHan State, took Hong Kong, and reinforced Yunan. It was game over basically. In 3 turns I took Calcutta and USA never retook Hawaii (I added ships there thruought game)

      bomber isn’t allowed to land in queensland without DoC i think. Couldn’t US just go away from hawaii and/or reinforce with new western US fleet?

    • RE: J1 attack Hawaii?

      @Omega:

      I hope you have some sort of plan after J1, because someone with 50+ ipc will be at range

      I think that people are taking the game sperately. You have to think bigger than this. First few rounds are important, yes. But you are making a thread about “I heard people saying that we should do Hawaii first turn” without much analysing the impact on the board, and what will happen after? Will Japan use it as a base to strike America? Will Japan use it to land aircraft and to mass a fleet to prevent USA from leaving WUS? What are your other moves? etc etc.

      Its absolutely pointless to speak about a separate battle

      i agree. Even if japan takes hawaii, then what?
      UK takes over south-east asia, anzacs take east-indies, china the shore, and US isn’t even dead!

    • RE: Balance

      @Battlingmaxo:

      I have played 4 games of '42  tech+ no+  / no- tech + / no+ tech -/ and no- tech-

      The only axis victory was in the tech+ no+ game.  If you dont play NOs its very easy to go for a KGF stategy. Japan cant expand as fast as it loses 10-15 ipcs/turn for lack of NO and Italy is doomed to be silly.

      use victoriy cities
      if japan can take india, australia and honolulu quick, axis win
      it promots a 2 frontwar for allies.

    • RE: Question about Political Situation

      @Tavenier:

      I am convinced Japan should attack on J1. You can’t let the Brits and Aussies take the Dutch Indies and grab their bonuses for turn after turn.

      But on topic:
      Everybody can declare war, except US, right? They have to wait until turn 3 or until Japs attack, right?

      if they grab east indies, you can whack their transports and malaya (where do UK troops come from?)

    • RE: What do we want in AAE40 that we didn't get in AAP40?

      @Razor:

      No, honestly, we dont need more pieces or chips, just buy two copies of the game. That should make mr Leeds happy. And seriously, do we really need an accurate Battlestrip, where the carrier has its correct values printet ? Of course not, we can just memorize the combat values. Thicker National Tokens with print on both sides ? Why ? Just glue two tokens together. A map that dont slippery slide aparth, but actually stick together during play ? Again a big why ?

      buy 2 same games? why?
      if you really want to throw away money, give it to charity

      actually quite funny
      so it’s possible for japan to go to war at start round 4? you gotta have overwhelming number of troops by then, perhaps couple of IC’s in the south

    • RE: Nazi Germany VS The Soviet Union

      @marine36:

      But you see, Roosevelt wanted war with Germany, to help his buddy Stalin, so it would have happened eventually.

      And I do believe the Tommies whipped Rommel all by there lonesome at El Alamean, though it is doubtful such success would have lasted once he got back to Tunisia and was reinforced.

      The 6th Army. Yes, it was a significant number of men. A quarter of a million Germans is nothing to sneeze at! Personally, I don’t think moral is a factor in modern warfare, at least it isnt in the Corp, but you may be right there as well. It is reasonable to assume that the German soldiers are different from U.S. Marines, and are still affected by moral.

      Rampant behavior of rape and murder? I am certain SS divisions maintained their dicipline in Russia, it was not until after the fighting had ended in an area and the soldiers had moved on than Himmler would move in with his death squads. The men of the SS where fine soldiers, do not label all of them barbarians for the actions of Himmler. Perhaps you have information that proves otherwise? Well, despite Himmler’s ruthless treatment of Russians, many Russians still did side with the Germans.

      the SS were bastards, the waffen-SS were just foreigners. Can understand them a bit: who doesn’t hate RUSSIAN communists?
