No US IC in China. China in this case is a ‘seperate’ country even though it’s troops attack at the same time as the US forces do.

There are adjustments, then there is totally changing the game. Besides, what’s the point of making up a wild set of rules, playing that set of rules and getting good at it…… only to find nobody wants to play that way?
I’ve found that making even what you think are subtle changes can make a huge difference. Maybe it’s just me but even after all these years, each game takes on a life of it’s own after the first 2-3 rounds and often sooner.

There are good and bad things for everything included being killed. So there really is no point in saying that.
The patriot act was established becaused of 9/11…. obvioiusly. Yet 9/11 was caused by a failure to communicate between existing agencies. The patriot act doesn’t fix that very well. If you’ve pissed off at me, don’t punch somebody else. That’s what this bill does for the most part.

What if the moon is full and I am half drunk and you are half sober, does that mean that blah blah blah blah….
If you are in doubt as to who wins then play the game out until there are no enemy units on the table, then it is over for sure. If you want to know the official rules then read the dang book.

I’d say the reason most sites dont’ work is they are too busy with flaming logos and 3-d spinning icons rather then the content. I used to love mosaic (anyone remember that one?), then of course the creators of mosaic formed netscape and I loved netscape. Then as microsoft slowly started to sabotage the competition I was forced to used internet explorer. Today my network runs 5.01, why? Not because I love microsoft…… I don’t. I use IE for the same reason I use Visual Studio for my development work. I use it because for now it’s a microsoft world and I have the least amount of conflicts. Of course none of my clients use anything but MS at the front line level either…
I think Unix/linux has a way better kernal. I also thought OS/2 was better, how’d that work for IBM? Metric is better then imperial but since the US doesn’'t use metric most of my tools aren’t metric either… C’est L’vie
This should be all about axis and allies and not about the dang tool we use to read posts. Keep the website simple, no flamming logos, no 5 channel sound required, no 5 meg shockwave files either… Da’ts my nickel.

I suspect it’s your firewall. I have the same problem. If we knew what port # the game is using it might help. Until then I am trolling the web for any answers. You might try just not running a firewall, I’d have to put a different operating system on my server so I’m not picking that as my first choice…

F_alk, dat’s some good stuff. It’s been years since I did my Bsc in Comp. ci. , it’s cool to revist it. I’ll agree that it might solve certain classes of NP-Complete problems but it’s never going to be able to analzye a chess game to ply depth of say 100.
Genetic learning algorithms is an interesting tool for aproximation of NP-complete problems.

Ancient chinese proverb talk of man who use notepad to create responses then copy and paste into big text box that way he have backup of sorts.

I’m running NT server with backoffice. I think this is preventing me from getting my CD game to connect to another machine. Any ideas? Perhaps the port # it uses?
BB
We’re often faced with problems that are non-solvable. NP-Complete is the term, the travelling salesman problem is a classic example. In these situations one must come close. Better is the enemy of good enough. Often a bit of chaos theory applied can help approximate an answer.
Weather is a great example, far to hard to determinasticaly model it, gotta have chaos theory.

F_alk, about the US going it alone vis-a-vis the UN……
I’m a great fan of the UN but… It has lately been a disaster… Germany in my opinion has taken herself entirely out of the equation, it is her choice. But just because she doesn’t want to raise a finger to save a drowning person does not mean she has the right to prevent me from risking my life to save the drowning person.
Germany has gone on record as saying “There is nothing that will cause us to support force”. That again is her right. There is no qualification to that, no conditions at all. By that standard if we showed Germany irrefutable evidence that say Saddam was putting 100,000 people in the gas chambers per month then Germany would say “Well that’s a shame, we sell microwave ovens that seat 20…”.
Anybody who says “No matter what happens, I won’t do a thing” loses their right to consultation.
If the UN is hell bent on being useless as it was in Bosnia at Srebrencia (sp?) when it promised safe haven for the muslims there but stood aside when the serb militia butchered thousands and thousands of civilians. As useless as it was in Rwanda when it allowed 800, 000 tutsis to die at hutu hands. The UN was warned by the Canadian commander in charge of the operation on numerous times and not only stood by but in fact order troops not to fight back. I number of Dutch UN soldiers were subsequently slaughtered, the UN ordered a pull out against the recommendations of the local commander and let genocide occur on a scale we had thought was left to the history books.
No, I’m sorry. The US has shown enough evidence. Even if there were no weapons of mass destruction there is no argument that I have heard that convinces me it’s better to let this mass murderer stay in control and hold hostage a country of 22 million.
If you don’t want to left a finger to help these people then fine. But get the hell out of my way because I am coming through…

Curious, why switch from Linux to BSD? It’s been years since I had to study the kernel level differences between Berkly and ummmmmm the other one. As for linux, never used it yet…… gonna have to soon, I refuse to go with WinXP or 2000 for that matter.

OK, I was saying that for instance…. The US fearing a Sub Stall keeps his Pacific fleet loaded up. Your issue with that is that he would then not have cannon fodder against an attack so you’d need double the transports.
My question is why on earth would you ever as the US put yourself in a situation like that to begin with? If the Jap fleet is so big it’s gonna chew up the US fleet you shouldn’t have been building transports and land units… If you’re worried that maybe you might take a single hit on some minor skirmish then build an extra transport or take of a sub god forbid.
If you haven’t find it that usefull in AAP either then what the hell are we arguing about?
Yeah I am sure you could dream up some scenario that in AAP you’d never really find yourself in where it might somehow be usefull in stopping a fleet from loading then moving. You have yet to show me a realistic scenario in that game
I’m just saying for such a fancy name SUB STALL I would think it would be more usefull in AAP and remember, this is an AAP forum so… If you post back that it really is the best thing since sliced bread and I don’t know what I am talking about then I’m just gonna say “You win, you’re right and I am wrong, it’s the best move in the world”.

Kev, actually, it’s incorrect to say the bomber will die by the 3.5th turn. There is only a 16.67 % chance to lose a bomber. The best assumption to make is if you send 6 bombers you lose 1. Each bomber does on average 3.5 IPC times 5 bombers means statistically you can do 17.5IPC for each 15IPC you spend on bombers. I’ve written computer simulations where the attacker starts with 6 bombers, builds a bomber then does an attack with the intial 6 bombers against a IC with an AA. I ran 10, 000 trials and the average IPC total was 17.48 IPCs. Take from that what you may.
BB
If you were that worried about being attacked on the round before that you would not load your transports then I would think that it would make more sense to be on the attack so you could use your bombers and the other guy couldn’t.
I’m sure it makes lot’s of sense in AAE, I’ve never played it, you say it’s important in that game and I’ll take your word for it. I read about substall on the AAP faq. In the AAP world sub stalling doesn’t seem like it would ever be used in a good way. The japs are slowly giving up ground by round 4 so they are the one to use sub-stalling for the most part. This against a 2 player foe just doesn’t seem like it would work well.
A recent study of CEO’s pays has shown that 90s a CEO was paid more if the company was bigger, NOT if s/he did a good job. In fact, the highest paid CEO’s for the most part destroyed the comanies they ran yet made out like the bandits they are.
