Since US goes to war at beginning of collect income phase turn 3 then there will only be two turns when US can make the 10 rather than the 50, not 3. So Japan might as well attack whomever on J3.
Oh yeah, still. 80 IPCs is nothing to scoff at.

I like the one on the bottom left best
One thing I would like to add:
Of course Japan has the option not to attack UK/Anzac and USA the first 3 turns, but I really don’t see why you wouldn’t. You can kill off the planes on Philippines and the UK BB at Malaya on J1. Very juicy targets. Of course, you get into war straight away, but leaving those targets alive and then moving them to safe spots will get you intro trouble later on IMHO.
Also UK will impose a big threat on Southern Asia if you keep those trannies at Malaya alive on J1 and I think UK will attack Japan before Japan does so herself.
But as John said, time will tell. Maybe in a few weeks it proves better to leave the allies alone until J4, you never know. :-D
Keep in mind: Not attacking as Japan for 3 turns mean allies get 120 less IPCs. You could spend those three turns better positioning yourself to wreak even more havoc on your first assault, and if UK does attack you before hand then all the better. Mind you if US started off with 50 IPCs instead of 10 when it’s at peace there’d be little reason to wait.
Yes there was. I err…. did that on purpose.
@Imperious:
Eagle Games had decent minis but they didn’t have a good WWII game.
They didnt have any ww2 game. They had a comic book game based on alternative reality of a world that never existed.
Exactly! They didn’t just not have a GOOD WWII game they didn’t have ANY WWII game! :-D
@Brain:
Makes me want my copy even more 8-)
Ain’t that the truth.
Only 5 more days.

I think Hitler deserves a smite at the least
I am sure Aldertag will be the man to do it. :-D
I still haven’t figured out how to yet

You can’t give karma until your 100th post

I garuntee damaged carriers retured to port during WWII with some planes on board
and I figured it out two seconds ago when I was upstairs
the rule is for convience, and a cop out by larry.
Cmon dude give him some credit. He made the decision based on how best he thought the game would work. If you don’t like it, fine, make a house rule, but you don’t have be a jerk.
I think Hitler deserves a smite at the least
@WILD:
As far as carriers go I agree with ksm. The way it played out in AA50 is once your carrier was hit it sunk, your planes had to find an alternate place to land. Its the same now except you have a chance to limp the carrier back and keep it.
The 2 hit units are going to be bitter/sweat. This along with other changes/additions will make the naval battles much better and more realistic. Its adding a degree of logistics AA has been missing.If they had of kept the price the same, I would agree with you…
but because they have upped the price, Carriers are much much less of a bargain, so much so that I think buying other naval units just became better.
The coolest thing to me about the prices from AA50, was that no matter how you cut it, whether offense or defense, a Carrier with 2 planes was more cost effective than purchasing the equivalent amount of other naval units.
Now that carriers jumped up in price, without adding ANYTHING tangible to offense or much to defense, a Carrier plus 2 planes is no longer the most cost effect route to go.
With a carrier and two fighters on defense you have 10 pips to hit at, and it takes 4 hits to kill and costs 36 IPCs. The only thing more cost effective would be buying 6 subs at the same cost hitting on 12 pips and taking 6 hits to kill. But the defense of the subs is half of its attack, and keep in mind in the pacific, at least, having a mobile platform to transport air units is invaluable as they are equally as usable on land and at sea. If you want straight out power, then sure, carriers are expensive, but what you’re paying for is mobility and I can’t see japan or america winning without the mobility they afford.
AAP40 ANZAC are grey. I never got the origional AAP
In orginal AAP they’re just UK units.
I think the cardboard is an improvement on the game.
Agreed.
Did anyone ever actually keep those plastic ICs and AA guns in Germany? or the UK?
I guess you might miss the sculpt for the IC… I mean did that ever look awesome!
Is is just me or are there a lot of complainers around?
I can’t believe people faithfully visit this site daily, play the games religiously, preorder not one but TWO copies of every single version so it can be played the DAY it comes out and then all anyone has do do is complain about what a shitty product Larry is selling us!
I’ve heard complaints about the price, the map, the sculpts, the release date, the historical accuracy, the status of France, the status of Finland, the status Mongolia(Come on! Mongolia!?) the Russian battleship, the number of units, the quality of units, the rules, the start date, the shape of China, chinese artiliery, the P-38 (Good God the P-38!) the battle strip, the map size, the map colour, the ocean colour, the dice colour, the colour of italy, the colour of russia, the colour of japan, the roundels for japan, the roundel for germany, the roundel for the uk, the roundel for russia, the roundel for italy, the roundel for anzac, the roundel for the us, the lack of box dividers, the lack of paper money, the lack of paper money and the lack of paper money! And a whole shwack of other things I haven’t listed… and now we’re hating on cardboard!?
Honestly people!
These are the most kick-a** games ever made. This is why we’re all here. Because we beg, cheat and bribe people to play with us because Axis and Allies is the most bad-assed boardgame this side of the armistice!
Larry Harris is a genius. And he is likely the most devoted boardgame designer out there. (And he doesn’t have to be!) All he does is listen to his fans and then make wonderfully balanced and beautifully crafted boardgames with the best gameplay I know of. Every element of these new games is in some way a response to fan input. Check out the archives on Harrisgamedesign if there are cardboard bits in the box, its because the guy who came up with this amazing game that we are all obsessed with decided that it was the best compromise to make for the best game possible.
If you can make games better than he can I suggest you go make millions instead of bitching about how it didn’t come out exactly how you wanted it to. If not, post your preferences in the house rules (BD you’ve got a good thing going on with the roundels.) And lets stop flooding the boards with all of this meaningless criticism…
I don’t know about you guys but I’m going to play these games and I’m going to love them. Just like all those which came before.
Whew
…rant over.
I <3 you
@Imperious:
Carrier-based planes are always considered to be defending in the air when the carrier is attacked.
but the rules also says that planes cannot launch if the carrier is damaged. So is it the case that if the carrier is ever elected as a hit, the planes can no longer land on the carrier and are forced into this “one space away thing or die” rule?
If that is the case the 2 hit carrier is no positive thing that anybody could ever use.
Well I mean having your fighters die is better than having your fighters AND your carrier die.
@Brain:
Those cheap@$$ chimps at WOTC. I wouldn’t be surprised if the french troops are printed on chits.
I think I would probably cry. Then the cardboard would get all wet.
As much as I like nice plastic pieces the cardboard bases, IC’s, and AA guns take up a lot less space on the board, which I think was their rationale behind putting them in.
@Imperious:
yea me too. Japanese tank looks similar to the Renault french tank
I see what you guys mean, but that is an axis unit. I think the matilda is better. Cetainly no Sherman.
They’re not going to make a new model for it. Japanese tanks would probably work best with the existing models.
Don’t worry I appreciate you :-D
