@Imperious:
Pretty sure this is from Japanese television
Remove “television” insert “propaganda”
That stunt with turret hitting the plane is pretty incredible especially considering that that T-34 turrets were manually operated.

ah ok. Anyways, that sure brightened my day lol

I was sent this by my dad and I have no idea where it’s from. Admittedly I thought it was hilarious. I mean seriously, chinese dudes in a T-34 shooting down a p-51? anyways. Anyone know what movie this is from?
U571 was ok. At least the equipment was mostly accurate.
Agreed, the sub rules suck. Using them as fodder against full fleets? Gimme a break.

Amazing research, btw… Armschwimmfahigkeitgeratsamt…
One of my favourite non-invented German words is the term that Germany used in WWI to designate tanks: Schutzengrabenvernichtungspanzerkampfwagen, or, roughly, “trench-destroying armoured fighting car.” German tanks of WWI were physically as cumbersome as that term, so in preparation for WWII Germany devised more practical tanks and a more practical designation (“Panzer”). Unfortunately for Germany, the American, British and Russian words for this type of weapon – “tank” – consists of only one syllable, whereas “Panzer” has two syllables, so the US, UK and USSR armoured forces in principle had a 50% advantage over the German armoured forces in speed of pronunciation. On the other hand, the French word “char” only consists of one syllable too, so in principle the French and German armoured forces should have fought each other to a draw in May-June 1940…so clearly this theory doesn’t hold up in reality as well as it ought to on paper.
ROFLOL
People are forgetting a temporal component here.
Look at a transport for instance. 1 inf 1 art have the save attack value as 1 inf 1 arm. But when the 1 inf dies… the tank is superior to the artillery everytime, because your punch survives deeper into the ensuing combat rounds.
The truth is, no one unit mass produced alone is ever going to win you the game. The best approach is to have a strong mixture of units, so you have a strong mixture of capabilities.
People also aren’t calculating threat factors properly. Your wad of 30 infantry can only strike whats next to it. But a wad of 15 tanks can strike twice as many targets, and has much better oppurtunity and threat factor, based on what you “could” do with it.
This gives you an “invisible” unit factor (like scrambling), where i have to calculate for something that may not occur. These raw calculations are giving absolutely 0 bearing on these types of factors.
Amen
Oh, my apologies. I thought that the Italians were all Germans. Sorry. :-P
If you “click to open expanded view” you can see that at least the Italian tank is not German.
You can see in the picture that Italian units are NOT just brown German units. They are the same unit types as in Global 1940.2 http://amzn.to/2eJkNsV

Somebody should make a war real war movie with 175 million. Nolan should have gave 125 million back to the studios and used only 50 million and done the 2,000+ extra central casting call along with CGI. The 125 could have financed a real war movie where we see Goering’s Luftwaffe consisting of perhaps 20 He-111 AT THE SAME TIME, and like a dozen Me-109 fighting a dozen Spitfires/Hurricanes. They would also show Germans and how the French fought to keep the Germans away from the beaches and what they were up against. The Germans is this movie were treated like Gremlins and Foo fighters… never seen or heard, but machines grazing the beaches occasionally with bullets. It made 50 million so far and it wont ever make its 175 back. Also, they did another stupid feel good " turning what is a disaster into a victory ala Pearl Harbor with the cook shooting down 400 Japanese fighters thing" Because they left out the part of the reality where hundreds of thousands got left behind and the 145+ lost British planes, and the loss of thousands of artillery and tanks, etc.
I saw about 4 lost spitfires and like 8 German planes shot down. They needed Cuda Gooding on the beach peeling potatoes , then forced to man his 50 caliber to destroy the entire Luftwaffe.
Heck, even The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe had a couple German bombers. (it’s been a while since I’ve seen that one so I’m not sure which type they were.

The 1944 June set up you could finish in 4 hours…
The best Avalon Hill game of the 80’s was Squad leader. We played the crap out of that game.
How is one supposed to win at a 1944 set up as Germany?
Agreed, Squad Leader is pressing A&A hard for the #1 slot on my most played list. I know that’s heresy in the A&A world but…
Are the units obsolete because of all your house rule units?
PS: I only have 1942 and 41 so I don’t have to worry about ALL of my units becoming obsolete.
Suckers…
