    • RE: Bombers on Carriers

      @Adlertag:

      Good idea.
      The Doolittle-raid against Tokio have some merit. Now since a fighter unit represent 2000 planes and a bomber unit represent 50 planes, I let 4 bombers land on a carrier, or one fighter and one bomber. Makes the naval campaigns more fun.

      if you were taking number of the planes into account, wouldn’t you also have to say that the bombers are bigger?

      I play with that same rule, but in my version the bomber cannot defend and always goes down with the ship ( they’re considered to slow to take off)

    • RE: Weird, but effective

      weirdest thing i’ve seen was in '41, the German turn went horrendously, ( I think they took the baltic states), because of this the Russian player wound up researching improved ICs, placed it in the far east, went through china, the Mid East and then wound up taking Libya with 5 tanks

      NOTE: It was the Japan players first time playing and the Russian player plays exclusively Russia.

    • Weird, but effective

      Every once in a while you’ll come across a strategy that makes you think " wtf is he/she doing? :?" just before they take your Capital.

      This is where you post those. :-D

    • RE: What if?

      without a doubt it was the Battle of Briton scenario, it would have opened up the UK to Sealion, crushed the heart of the Commonwealth, let the Germans put more troops in the East, and would scare the hell out of the US.

    • RE: Heavy Bombers Question…

      I completely agree with you, except for the fact that adv factories would be good for the US, IMHO i think that an extra IC for the US would be too risky. Alaska, Hawaii and even Brazil can bee taken by Japan. Because (let’s face it) Japan can do anything…… just not everything

    • RE: Worst A&A game?

      when i first got d-day I thought it was pretty good, but as I got more interested in “real” A&A I realized it was pretty limited and too scripted for the first 3 or 4 rounds.  I would’ve been a hell of a lot better if it featured the whole Normandy break out, and the rest of france w/ a resistance special rule.

      @atarihuana:

      best tech paratroopers ?

      id say best techs are improved factories / advanced art cuz every nation can make use of them, no matter what…

      advanced art is decent but improved factories are my favorite (South Africa w/ 4 tanks per turn? yes please)

    • Freak situation pt2

      Japan takes Fukien from the Chinese and for whatever reasons builds an IC on it. Later, China retakes the territory. What happens to the IC? Can the Chinese use it? Does it get destroyed? Or is it just unusable?

      (Maybe I can finally stump the K-Man!)

    • RE: If Japan had attacked the USSR, would Germany have defeated the Soviets?

      @Imperious:

      I think If Japan only attacked the Soviets in 41, Stalin would have to divert alot of his forces to fight and gave Germany an easier task in June. But realistically Japan could not even hope to get more than the immediate areas north of Manchukuo. Their is no way they had the resources to get to Moscow or anything like that. The loss of the Far east would have meant nothing to Stalin except that he would send reinforcements to push them back, but this was not in Japans interests because it didn’t translate into a solution for her crude oil shortage.

      It was also a war aim for either the Army or Navy and took Japan away from her natural sphere of influence which was to remove all the colonial powers from Asia and dominate China. Japan was not in the war to fight for German interests and the so called “alliance” was nothing but a slip of paper describing the fact that in all likelihood they would all eventually be fighting the same enemies so by inference they are on a “team”.

      I agree, if i were Stalin an Japan took over the Far East I would shrug my shoulders and ask what’s  for lunch

    • RE: Which would have been a better Ally to Germany?

      @Imperious:

      France was Germany’s best ally. They collaborated by far more than anybody else who got conquered even with some degree of enthusiasm. You almost wonder if they surrendered on purpose.

    • Worth it?

      In the past few years I’ve tried playing games like Warhammer and D&D but neither of them have really held my intrest for too long. I’m just wondering if the miniatures are really worth investing into. And if so whats the most cost-effective pack to buy (i still have Christmas money leftover :-D)

    • RE: If Japan had attacked the USSR, would Germany have defeated the Soviets?

      I voted no, because although it would’ve somewhat help the Germans it would not necessarily led to a victory. The reason I say this is because there is a seemilngly endless amount of sparsely populated, rugged terrain in between the Soviet Far east and ay part of Russia that would’ve been worth taking. So to sum it up:

      Best case: The Japanese invade, sweep across the east and help take moscow
      or
      Worst Case: Japanese divert too many troops that turn out to be not effective at all, allowing the Allies to take back the Pacific, and ultimately end the war quicker

    • RE: Russian Strategy

      @Ó:

      Naturally, but that is boring and un-dynamic, we need to keep things fresh, and the enemy will be thinking “What the hell is he thinking?” Which can be an advantage, because he will not know how to react. If you know a bit about actual World War II, then you’ll know that Mussolini really threw Churchill and the Brits off balance by being so unpredictable, he attacked in Greece, and in Egypt, and other places, and the British stretched themselves thin trying to counter that. In fact, if Germany had intervened decisively in Africa after the evacuation of the British from Somalia and Greece, they would likely have knocked the Brits right out of the Med. So the same applies to this game, if your opponent is not sure what you are doing, he as to guess, and has to place forces to counter what he thinks you are going to do. Comes in handy sometimes, whereas with 3 tanks, he knows precisely what you’re going to do with them, and be easily able to counter it, as long as he has money.

      I think that you have a valid point about being unpredictable, but there’s a difference between being stratigically unpredictable, and being upredictable just for the sake of it

      I do see what you mean though…… :wink:

    • RE: Russian Strategy

      @Ó:

      Hmmm, so it would be, perhaps if you buy a destroyer one round, then a transport the next, that why the Germans have to decide if they want to risk losing a bomber for some Russian ships.

      IMHO I’d rather have 3 tanks opposed to a 15IPC navy in the black sea, which will probably get sunk
