That’s a very good point Garg. That’s exactly what is. Wasn’t quite what I was expecting

RE: Battle of the Atlantic Movie Coming March 2019
Hope it’s better than Dunkirk. The fighter pilot was cool and the civilian captain wasn’t too bad, but all and all, not that good imo

RE: Pacific Islands worth 3 icps
yea it seems to me that it’s generally easier to prevent a NO bonus than attain it. The big money islands for JPN being an exception, at least early. Still think it’s a good idea that could produce more action, depending on ones strategy.
Just have to try it out : )
Cool way you change up the combat movement and non.

RE: Pacific Islands worth 3 icps
Hi SS
Yea you get the 1 PU bonus every turn if you own it and are at war. So game start it doesn’t kick in unless Japan gets the ball rolling, which sometimes they do : ). The 2 bucks are every time you conquer it.
I found that an extra buck, others opinions as well, wasn’t enough incentive. 3 bucks every turn would be too much imo, so ended up with if you do battle and win, you get rewarded. So yea, 2 bucks for conquer and 1 for owner. Next turn you’d just get the 1 for owner if nothing changed.
You can spend the dough wherever you want, although US is probably only one that would spend it elsewhere in the global game. Maybe Japan.
I like your idea about the bases, but i also like having to build them. I play where bases only cost 12 bucks as opposed to 15 oob global ( not sure what yours are ) so they’re a little easier to build.
Yea I need to check your program out in detail some day. Just never seems to be enough time. : ) At any rate, just a couple ideas.

RE: Pacific Islands worth 3 icps
This is what I ended up with on the Global 40 map:
Gives all valueless Pacific Islands 1 PU when Japan is at war with any of the Western Allies. Must be at war to receive bonus.
Japans “Strategic_Defense_Perimeter” National Objective is replaced by “Strategic_Islands”. They now receive 3 PUs for control of “Midway, Wake Island and Guam” when at war with ANY of the Western Allies. The USA also acquires the “Strategic_Islands” National Objective when at war with Japan.
On the Pacific Map, when at war with each other, Japan and the Western Allies will receive 2 PUs each time they Conquer a 2 PUs value Island or less (except the Philippines).
The Western Allies will receive 2 PUs each time they Conquer one of the following: Celebes, Sumatra, Borneo, Java or the Philippines from Japan.
The Japanese will receive 2 PUs every time they take control of Celebes, Sumatra, Borneo, Java or the Philippines after round 3.
US usually takes the Marshalls early. Japan Guam. Which they normally do anyway. Japan also will go after DNG, which is also normal. They’ll take Ceylon as well. The rest depends on what strategy one uses, but does seem to create a little more action and sometimes a lot.

I got updated Warrior888. Think you can still dial in : )
Bonus game piece sculpts are finished!
Posted by Eric Harvey (Creator)Gentlemen,
Thank you for your patience; I realize it’s been a month-and-a-half since my last update, but our sculptor really went the extra mile to create some superlative sculpts for the new bonus game pieces that we’ve added to those versions of the game, and that took quite a while to complete. Progress was slow, but I decided to let him work at his own pace because of the really nice sculptures he was creating, and I know you’ll be pleased with the final product, as well.
Presently, the sculptor is making requested changes and modifications that are intended to make many of the game pieces more durable during the casting process, as well as making them more durable as plastic game pieces during game play. So, all of this has caused a delay to the entire production process. For those that have not been following the thread about The War in Vietnam here on Kickstarter, note that the originally forecast target date of September is going to be pushed back because of the extra time that has been required to create all these extra bonus game pieces. Nevertheless, we are not sitting idle; we’re pushing things along as fast as reasonable …meaning as fast as possible without jeopardizing the quality of the game.
All of my doggerel aside, here’s three select images of some of the bonus game pieces that have been finished:
US Marine. Note the M14 rifle he is carrying. US Marine. Note the M14 rifle he is carrying.
The CVA sculpt will mean two types of aircraft carrier models. The CVA sculpt will mean two types of aircraft carrier models.
The Australian sculpt is accurate right down to his hat. The Australian sculpt is accurate right down to his hat.In other news, I have actually had some of the game pieces test-cast to get an idea of size and integrity. Here you can see two MiG-21’s (which are probably too small and may be enlarged a tad), as well as one of the other new bonus game pieces, the RPG version of the Viet Cong. These were created in clear resin so as to see all the details of the test-cast, but obviously the actual game pieces will be molded in their appropriate color.
Real, actual, factual, test-cast game pieces in clear resin! Real, actual, factual, test-cast game pieces in clear resin! Now, I actually intend another update very shortly, so don’t worry that it’ll be a whole month before the next one. Indeed, I hope to have another update in just a matter of days, but I presently wanted to let everybody see the progress of the new game pieces before I segued onto other subjects.
As a matter of fact, specifically I want to address the handful of people that have e-mailed me about possibly ordering the game now that the Kickstarter campaign for The War in Vietnam has ended: I can add your name to the backer spreadsheet and will contact you when we begin production if you are interested in getting a copy of the game. Likewise, for those of you that may know someone that would be interested in obtaining a copy of The War in Vietnam, please do let them know that it’s not too late to get their name added to the backer spreadsheet. Every additional backer helps pay for extra goodies to add to the game (for example, a sturdier box, whatever we can think of), so don’t hesitate to spread the word if you know someone that may want to get added to the backer spreadsheet.
Okay, please feel free to e-mail me directly if you have any questions, generally or specifically. I’ll post another update by next week, with any luck.
Eric :-)

RE: G40 Balance Mod - Feedback Thread
simone, i was wondering if it’d be feasible to improve tripleA to allow NOs to be turned on or off individually, as an alternate form of bidding and to add a little more variety to the game strategy. plus it could be useful for handicapping a much stronger opponent, e.g., M playing against E or 1 tier.
I’ve received a suggestion on a way it is possible without changing the engine - by adding map options to disable certain objectives. I think we should be able to disable the guerrilla fighters this way too.
So which objectives do we want to be able to disable? Here’s my suggested list:
- Morocco/Algeria/Tunisia to USA
- Japan DOW bonus on Persia and Northern lend lease to USSR
- Carolines etc bonus to USA
- Sicily/Sardinia etc bonus to UK
- Iwo Jima/Okinawa bonus to Japan
- Perhaps some people want to disable the Indian Ocean objective to UK_Pacific?
No replies, not even a like? Seems the care factor is low to zero.
Too bad. seemed as if it was a good idea.

RE: G40 Balance Mod - Feedback Thread
@P@nther:
In order to better expose the Balance Mod to the community, this thread has been moved to “Other Axis & Allies Variants”.
might be better to stickie it under “House Rules”. Seems more apropriate and probably more viewed than “other …variants” imo
Or maybe both. : )
Appreciate your time P@nther

RE: 85% Funded
my last email from him was on May 30th:
Here we have The Dangerous Year: 1973 map in its near-final state. This game, as a reminder, simulates the execrable showdown that nearly occurred in '73 when the Israelis began to push across the Suez Canal…prompting Anwar Sadat to request direct Soviet military invention to save his country. Premier Brezhnev vehemently insisted that Nixon compel the Israelis to withdraw, which they did, but very nearly too late to avert a superpower confrontation. However, had things tipped too far to halt the course of events, a sudden war may have erupted across the breadth of Europe. This game is simple and plays quickly…even possibly too quickly if one side or the other triggers a nuclear war.
Now, I do have a request for those who care to comment: As you can see, various spaces on The Dangerous Year: 1973 map are mountainous terrain. I trust that it is evident which spaces are “mountainous” and which are not. If you think this is not discernible enough, please feel free to let me know.
In other news, the Vietnam map is essentially finished, although in fact it is undergoing some final touches, and so I hope to have it to show off within a few days or so.
With these maps done, the next update will reveal the last of the extra bonus game pieces, and then we begin to get our manufacturer geared up for initial game piece samples, and then full-blown production. While that is going on, we’ll be getting our box art completed, and then we’ll endeavor to assemble all of the myriad components for pre-press, and then have it ready to begin printing samples for proofing.

RE: Saved games
He’s using an older Mac, 2012/2013. Could this be an issue?
there was a flash thing problem a year or two ago on macs. the new updates fixed it. At any rate it’s working for ya : )

RE: Developing A&A Helper (web) app
At the moment i am needing to fill out most of the data about the gameboard. That being IPC for territories, convoy-disruption, kamikaze, etc. etc. Does anybody have this info at hand somewhere? I would like to avoid the tedious manual work of typing it all in.
Not that I’m aware of. You could probably copy/paste some stuff from the rule book I would think. Might just have to type away : ) Do small portions at a time so as not to be overwhelmed : )
Yea I like live play for the “gut feeling” battles as opposed to battle calc. Battle calc has it’s uses, especially for testing stuff, but I think the live thing gives more of a “real” feel than pbf where you can take as much time as needed to make the best play. Both are fun though, just a little different

RE: The Japan Playbook
Hi Moffett
No. Only a minor. Korea is the only place Japan can build a major

RE: G40 Balance Mod - Feedback Thread
But that affects all Neutral Axis, not just Vichy troops.
yes it does. Finland, Bulgaria and Iraq. Finland and Bulgaria are activated rd 1. Iraq will be the only non vichy, but since vichy is “pro axis” … w/e thought it was more visually appealing.

RE: Developing A&A Helper (web) app
Hi vicktor
sounds cool. I know some people have a kick ass magnetic board hanging on the wall that shows a lot of stuff. Probably could add other stuff to your ipad deal though. Like battle calc, rules link etc…
welcome to the boards : )

RE: G40 Balance Mod - Feedback Thread
Wow Ichabod! How that every slipped my attention over hundreds of BM games I will never know. Thank you for spotting the bug.
Simon, would you kindly upload a corrected version of the XML (including marines in US’s Western-Europe-Beachead objective)? Thanks man.
Hail victory!
changed the vichy guys to light blue if you want to add it to your update.

RE: Artillery question
artillery attack on a 2 inf on a 1. If you have an artillery and a inf both attacking the inf gets boosted to 2. 1 arty can only boost 1 inf
Inf and arty defend at 2 by themselves. Inf are cheaper. You need inf for defense as well as for the attack bonus. You also need inf for cannon fodder and blockers.
Once you get some arty just buy inf to replace your losses and try and maintain a 1:1 ratio. If on defense you probably want more of a 2:1 or even 3:1 ratio. Depends on your situation. If you’re really under pressure a lot of people will go all inf for max defense.
I’ve always liked to be able to do small counterattacks when possible though. It’s nice to have a couple planes so you can at least do some minor counterattacks.
Best thing is to set it up and give it a go : )
you might want to read through the after action reports a couple threads above you. probably some good info there for ya

RE: A few questions
Hi slo Welcome to the Boards
I don’t remember exactly on the tech but yea, I think if you don’t hit you get to roll the misses the next turn for free. I think you only get one tech regardless of hits and excess hits get lost. Idk for sure. Someone will though : )
Sub gets a sneak attack the start of every combat round unless DD present. No DD and sub hits, the ship that gets sunk can’t fire back but any other ships can. At the start of every combat rd you can submerge if no DD present.
I’m sure others will have a better explanation. Just wanted to say Hi : )
