    • Music

I am a huge music addict. Once one of the guys I play with compiled some classical music tracks that had to do with war, many having militaristic overtones. It was very cool, really got you into the spirit of things! What kind of music do you guys listen to during your games?

    • RE: Rookie players: best team

Yeah, the key word here is “starting income”. Whereas Japan has physical “room for mistakes”, US has financial “room”. US also has time, although not much because he has to help out his buddies before they get squooshed. He doesn’t have to make a game-winning move on his first turn though. Plus, a lot of firstime players have it ingrained in their head that they don’t want to be the “bad guys”, so it’s easier to convince them to take US.

    • Britain or USSR?

When playing Ger. do you guys go for USSR or UK first? You can’t effectively take care of two fronts, as we all learned from der furer in the '40s  Any preferences?

It IS a good thing to know what you’re going to do before your turn. Besides making the other players impatient, you make worse decisions because of the pressure.

It seems like there ought to be another naval unit available. It would solve a variety of problems. I don’t usually have a lot of naval activity (compared to how it should be) and having cheaper boats would bring more of them onto the water. Subs don’t have a lot of fire power either, not to mention the aerial vulnerability, so there needs to be a happy medium. (A cruiser perhaps?)

It can give you a sense of accomplishment if you’re successful with UK, if you win with Ger. on the other hand, it can get you killed! :D

It sounds like with that north african game you might as well just fight an actual war, it’d probably be simpler! ("What! You go tell Arivadercci-what’s-his-face that he can dig a well for his OWN F*****G WATER!!!) I thought A&A was fairly complicated! With a game like north africa you ought to learn to play RISK in kindergarten!

I have refrained from posting on this topic 'cause there were so many posts already, I didn’t want to have to read the whole thing. Well I still haven’t so bear with me if I repeat something that was already said!

I’ll have to agree with you Mose, about the U.K. I’m probably in the British school of thought when it comes to strategy anyway! (gag) Well, the only problem for U.K. is not having enough stuff to work with at the begining, so you can’t concentrate on much more than one spot. (Historically this is probably because of post-WWI disarmament) (more gagging) They do start with a lot of territories though.

Hey, watch it! That is exactly what hindered Forrest! There were few Confederate genl’s who had any respect for him because he had no military education! Bill Gates (excuse my french) probably WOULD be a good general. That probably goes along with why Sun Tzu is good for business. Something to think about!

It’s amazing how quickly these discussions digress! :D We ought to have a “war between the states” forum! Do you know of any good ones?

Yeah, I wish more people knew about him. If there were more generals like him the war would have been a lot shorter too! Quite a character!
