@Draginfut I’m in Lynchburg, but I’m super into Global 1940! I play with a buddy of mine who’s local about 4-5 times a year.

How to best threaten German Baltic fleet?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Hi there, very new to the forum, not so new to Global 1940. I’ve played maybe 8 or 10 games to completion, and have a preliminary grasp on the general Allied strategy.
My question is, how to best sink the German’s Baltic fleet? The typical fleet we have by G2, G3 is a CV with two fighters, a cruiser, 2 or 3 transports and the 3 fighter scramble. This fleet usually persists until the end of the game, constantly threatening Leningrad.
I haven’t found a good way to threaten this fleet because Denmark/Norway is constantly retaken. Any advice?

Game appointmentposted in Play Boardgames
@cds Sorry for the late reply, but I would definitely be interested in playing a few games! My friend and I have played maybe 5 or 6 full games of Global, but the issue I have is that we play with a slightly modified ruleset, but regardless, I’d love to get better at a sense of the game as Axis. Most of my games have been as Allies.

@barnee Thank you! I kind of came to the same conclusion in the 24 hours it took for my post to get approved haha. I appreciate the consensus though!

@shadowhawk Thank you! I’ve also come to the same conclusion that subs+airpower is the way to go to challenge that fleet. Combining this with my plan to use subs to convoy sz97, the US will be building quite a few subs haha.

RE: Assistance with the bidding rulesposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@AndrewAAGamer I agree, I like having a higher bid, but I’ve played a few games and won them with decreasing amounts of bid. We started at like 60 and I’ve won almost every game. The last one I won, I had a bid of 24 which I was okay with.
In your opinion though, if you had an 18 ipc bid, where would you place it and why?

RE: Bidsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@AndrewAAGamer Is low 40’s really reasonable? I admit that I only have real experience playing with my one friend, but I have long said that 14 IPC is the minimum I would take the allies for. Naturally, more is better, but I feel as if 40-60 is entirely too much. I have played maybe 25 games total, but they’ve almost entirely been against my one friend.

@barnee Hi barnee! For some reason I feel honored, as if I’m in the presence of forum royalty!
Yeah, he and I work together, so we’ve had plenty of opportunities over the last 6 years we’ve known each other. :)
I mostly play in person, but with a few days in between each session, and we maybe get through 3 rounds in a session. Therefore, I have plenty of time to plan, mwahaha.
How would I play 1940 online? I’ve only ever done 1942 online and I found it a pale substitute for 1940 global.

RE: Oztea's 1939 Global Setupposted in House Rules
@barnee I get the OOB rules, and I think it might just be my interpretation of the change that the Belgians are now an independent, neutral power that is leading me to what I mentioned previously. Some clarification would be nice, but I don’t have the first idea on how to track Oztea down :(

RE: Oztea's 1939 Global Setupposted in House Rules
@barnee Yeah since it’s not in the 1940 rules, the way I’m piecing it together is that since the Dutch are an independent faction, it becomes a sprint for who gets control of the islands the earliest.
Looking solely at the Pacific, let’s say the Japanese take Celebes, then Java and the other one that is escaping me flip to Pro-Allied. That doesn’t constitute a DOW on the Allies, correct?
So then, the Allies can grab the other islands, but Celebes is off limits unless the Pacific Allies declare war on Japan. Am I interpreting/applying the rules correctly?

RE: Oztea's 1939 Global Setupposted in House Rules
@Blackychan So then does it not behoove the Pacific Allies to take the islands so that way the Japanese can’t claim the islands without declaring war on the Allies?
Unless I’m misunderstanding the rules, the way this set up is that where the Japanese could take the money islands without allowing the US into the war earlier?

RE: Oztea's 1939 Global Setupposted in House Rules
In essence, the main difference is that now the Pacific UK and ANZAC can no longer claim the money islands freely?
If Japan strikes the islands, does that allow the US to declare war like Global 1940?

RE: Scramble defenseposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@barnee Wait, I thought you couldn’t scramble into a SZ that there isn’t combat occuring in? Am I misreading the initial prompt? The power conducting the amphibious assault can choose to ignore the SS so then the fighters do not have a combat to scramble into.

Oztea's 1942 Global Balanceposted in House Rules
Do we know how well balanced Oztea’s 1942 set up is? I played as allies, recieved a bid of 12 and won. I am going to play as axis next, and want to know what people think about its balance?

RE: Assistance with the bidding rulesposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@AndrewAAGamer Would Germany still not be able to take both SZ 110 and 111? I believe that Germany has 4 subs, 4 fighters, 4 tactical bombers, 2 strategic bombers and 1 battleship to bring to bear on the two sea zones.
If it’s split evenly, with the battleship going to the English Channel, Germany has odds on both, even with a Scottish Fighter bid and scrambling the now 5 fighters.
Are my calculations off or is it not a given that the Scottish Fighter saves a fleet?

RE: Assistance with the bidding rulesposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@shadowhawk So Germany normally sends the Bismarck to the channel? Last time I was axis, I sent 2 SS and 3 fighters, 3 tacticals, and 1 strategic bomber. For the Scottish fleet, I sent the BB, 2 subs, and 1 of each of the fighter, tactical and strategic bomber. I don’t want to get too lost in the strategic weeds here though, haha.
So if I put a sub in the med for Taranto, should I put a fighter in Scotland? Is there (in your opinion) a better use for the bid?
