    • RE: Sgt. Wonko's & TMTM's 1940 Global Module for ABattlemap

      @Sgt.:

      I’m experimenting with lowering the size of the map file to see if that has any effect on the mod crashing. It’s crashed a couple of times for me and I know that Stoney and SgtBlitz said that it crashed on them as well.

      I’ve reduced the size of the file from 16 mb to 10 mb (Func’s is 7 mb). I’ve had it crash a total of 3 times so it’s a bit hard to be sure that this is going to be the fix since it happens pretty infrequently. If it seems to be the solution I’ll upload a new version with smaller image file sizes.

      I am still on version1, and have crash problems.

      It would close and disappear without warning, many times.

      I had the Toolbar open (and not the Infoview).

      When I closed the Toolbar, It stopped closing (crashing).

      I don’t know if that helps or not, but that’s what I observed.

      Krieghund,  while the US is neutral, may the Axis use the Panama Canal?
      (And for the rest of you…yes, this is about to come up in a game.)

      Nice touch with the Plexiglass.

      People can see the game board and think about their moves during nongame times.

    • RE: Battle Map question

      @Dijitz:

      So no’s would be kept track of via web board?

      Alpha+.2 is still only in the Alpha stage (see Alpha vs Beta w/Google).

      With changes quickly happening, the people who work on this will let a final tested ruleset come out first, then complete ABattleMap.

      Until then, help to test Alpha+.2 and join all the controversy that there is.  :-)

      . @Funcioneta:

      Please, test it. Just in case some error is left

      Nice work.
      I noted that the Convoy Disruptions are not applied against France.
      Although most would point out that, if France were collecting income, that the game is an Allied win anyway.

      I really like the red Victory Cities, and how you properly put a square red box (instead of circle like the gameboard has) on New South Wales (Sydney).

      I really miss the seazone numbers on the map.

      I miss have a three letter abbreviation for territories.

      @ghr2:

      why 2 of them?

      I case someone loses one of the roundels.

      Or, in case you dog eats one of the roundels.  Then you may use the back-up roundel while you wait for the first one to pass thru.  :lol:

      @kcdzim:

      What was the main point of this thread anyway?

      It was suppose to be for asking Alpha+.2 rule questions for Krieghund to answer.

      (The OOB questions should be asked in the other thread.)

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      @gamerman01:

      @Cmdr:

      I do not believe so, I think the fighters / tactical bombers scramble during Conduct Combat Phase, not Combat Move Phase.

      I think the same as Jennifer.  Has to be final destination to scramble - pretty sure Krieg has said this before.

      Jen and Gamerman01 are correct.

      1. Italy has to declare ALL their combat moves first.
      2. When they are done with combat move, then scrambling orders are given. (Combat moves are set and can’t be changed.)
        Notice that in the AAE40 Rulebook (page 16) that Scrambling is listed in the ‘Conduct Combat’ Phase
      3. Conduct Combat (Scramble Orders are set and can’t be changed.)

    • Alpha vs Beta

      I have seen many murmurings similar to:

      • 'when is Alpha going to done’?
      • ‘we must be up to Gamma, Delta, or Omega about now’
      • ‘I didn’t pay $180 to be a playtester’
      • 'why do they keep changing Alpha so fast’?

      If Larry is following the theme for Alpha and Beta testing, then Alpha should see many, many changes quite quickly.
      With Beta, changes should slow down.

      Alpha vs Beta Meaning.

      http://www.rebol.com/article/0030.html

      _"The purpose of an alpha release is to get you some “experimental” code that lets you try out a new idea, but the implementation itself is not final. It may not be stable at all (perhaps it crashes as soon as you run it), and the API is also subject to change… We want to get you “samples” of the system, get some feedback on them, and work toward finalizing it. After a while it becomes stable enough for a beta release.

      For a beta release: we hope the code is more stable. The API is much less likely to change unless we find some big problem. During the beta stage, it is very important to let us know about bugs, especially any new problems that may have popped up."_

      People theorize quite a bit about how starting set-ups and rules affect gameplay.
      Real testing is where the advances are made!

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle

      _"Alpha software can be unstable and could cause crashes or data loss. The exception to this is when the alpha is available publicly (such as a pre-order bonus), in which developers normally push for stability so that their testers can test properly. External availability of alpha software is uncommon.

      The alpha phase usually ends with a feature freeze, indicating that no more features will be added to the software."_

      Wow, Larry has allowed us, that want it, into the inner circle.  Those that do not want it can play OOB. We have choices, enough with the whining already.

      Your thoughts?

    • RE: Quick question

      @MadPup77:

      Remember there is also NOs (National Objectives) that grant bonus income.
      For Russia and the US, they must be at war to collect this income.

      Isn’t there a NO stating that Russia gets 5 extra IPCs for NOT being at war with Germany? Or was it BEING at war? I can’t remember (Sorry don’t have the rule book handy)

      ~MadPup~

      It is 5IPC for being at war, with sz125 Axis warship free, own Archangel, no Allies units in original Russian territories.

      Germany has a ‘not at war’ NO.

      Russia and Japan have a ‘you better not break the peace treaty or 12IPCs get involved’ type of NO. (This is an AAG40 Alpha+.2 tryout rule.)

    • RE: Quick question

      @ThomasJefferson:

      does the sun rise in the morning?

      Poor answer, in some locations on this planet, that answer is no.
      The sun is up for months, or the sun does not rise for months.

      @billinjackson:

      Before the USA and Russia enters the war do they still collect their ipc’s and therefor able to build units?

      Yes, they collect their income.

      Remember there is also NOs (National Objectives) that grant bonus income.

      For Russia and the US, they must be at war to collect this income. (Also keep in mind that incomes can be reduced from Convoy Raids (or Convoy attacks / Convoy Disruptions)).

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ Alpha+.2

      in the Alpha+.2 Rules>#8

      8. Strategic Bombing Raids procedure:
      • Escorts fire @1, and interceptor casualties are immediately removed.
      • Bombers fire @ 1 and interceptors fire @ 2. Remove bomber and interceptor casualties (escorts may be taken as casualties only after all bombers are eliminated).
      • Surviving bombers are assigned a specific target (IC, airbase or naval base) if more than one type is in the territory.
      • The target fires its AA defenses at the attacking aircraft - @1
      • Surviving bombers attack their target, looking for the highest number possible.

      When bombing, each Strategic bomber rolls one die.
      The number rolled +2 is the total number of hits the target will receive.
      Gray chips are placed under the target for each hit received.

      Tactical bombers
      Tactical Bombers can also conduct bombing raids.
      They are limited to attacking only naval bases and airbases, however.

      Other wise they follow the exact procedure as strategic bombers presented above.
      When bombing they roll one die.
      The number rolled is the number of hits the target receives.
      Do not add to the dice roll when bombing with tactical bombers.

      I hope this answers your question.
