      I’m pretty sure this one has been answered somewhere, but i can’t find it…

      During Combat movement, can you send some planes in an empty SZ just in case your oponent decide to scramble ?

      Exemple: you have 2 loaded transport and just one destroyer, you want to do an amphibious assault, but your oponent could scramble 3 planes. Can you send some planes to “escort” your transports and your destroyer ?

      New Questions.

      Ok, all the action is going to take place in SZ 112 and 110. Germany is attempting Sealion.

      Can Germany load transport into SZ 112, then go into SZ110 and load some more units from Normandy into transport before amphibious assault on UK when :

      1- there is a UK sub in SZ 110
      2- there is a surface UK warship in SZ 110
      3- there is a UK sub in SZ 110 AND some UK planes scramble
      4- there is a surface UK warship in SZ 110 AND some UK planes scramble.

      In all cases, the german transports are not alone, they are escorted with the german fleet and and SZ 110 will be cleared before amphibious assault.
      Just need to know if they are scenarios when the transports can’t load units in SZ110 on the same turn before the amphibious assault.

      Captured major ICs should be downgraded in the Theatre games also when using Alpha.

      You just have to make Sealion so impossible / painful, that the Germans don’t even want to attack. There are ways to get it done.

      Yup, i agree. In one of these 4 games, berlin fell on 6th turn against the big russian stack but was liberated by Italians, and then keeped for the rest of the game. Berlin fell because Sealion cost too much to Axis. That was just a matter of luck that the player was able to get Berlin back and keep it.

      I played 4 games of E40 with Alpha +2 .
      All games were won by Axis after a Sealion, but it doesn’t mean the game is not well balanced, it might just mean we are not playing the allies well enough.

      The IC in UK not downgraded to Minor IC makes the UK impossible to be taken back by the US if Germany doesn’t want to, but since the US don’t have to deal with japanese, they can just let it go and hit Italy or Germany as hard as they can.

      Got a new live game friday, we are going to give it a try.

      But we’ll stick to this :

      RESEARCH FACILITIES

      *Buy a Reasearch Facility piece for $15.   For each Facility, at the END of your turn AFTER placement, you get to roll a Tech die.

      Each nation starts with a facility in their capital.  Including France, excluding China.  U.K. Calcutta DOES NOT get one.

      Optional
      At the start of the game, BEFORE ANY DICE are rolled, every power gets one free roll at research.

      We’re dumping the Tech stealing thing, because if UK gets “lucky” on their first turn, it just adds a “sweet bonus” for Sealion.

      Painted or Unpainted units all die the same way. Just think of all the gaming experience you would benefit from if…… You used the hundreds of hours it takes paint each one of those tiny pieces to try implementing and practicing a winning strategy.

      Nope ! Units that you spent time painting are actually more resistant. When you throw dices to defend them or to attack with them, dices tend to get better results than with unpainted OOB units.  It is due to the special energy you impregnate your units with while painting them (love ?).   This has been proved scientifically.    :-D

      Is there a limitation on the number of times you can scramble during the course of a round ?

      Exemple : could UK scramble against Germany, then Japan, then Italy on the same round ?

      I know this situation is very unlikely, but just to be sure.

      Hi guys,

      I’d like to find a group in Montreal to play live games of AA (especially AAG40 alpha+2 if possible).
      I speak french, but my english is good enough so it won’t be a problem.

      I’ve been playing AA for years now (revised, 1942, anniversary, old europe and Pacific, and guadalcanal) with the same people, and i’d like to try to play with other players.

      I can play on : friday night and all week-end.
      So if your group is in Montreal and you won’t mind trying a new player, just send me a pm.

      Germany invades Morocco locking the UK fleet in the Med and putting it’s navy in sz91 (this assumes that they attacked the 2 cruisers in sz112 with their navy and reinforced with at least a carrier). Invades Greece and moves it’s airforce to Southern Italy.

      How exactly does Germany manage that ? A surface warship has been left SZ 104 on UK1…So there is no way Germany can go to Morocco on their combat move. Also, but i could be wrong on that one : i thought that only the control of Gibraltar was important for the control of the strait.

      By the way, thanks for taking the time to think about this strat and post it here, sarge.

    • Question about UK1 strategy after SZ110 not cleared on G1.

      I have seen many players on this forum talking about what they do and buy on G1.
      From these posts, i have observed that a good proportion of players don’t attack SZ110 on G1, the same is true from some games i watched in the "play boardgames"section of this forum.

      So, here is the position at the end of G1: SZ 111 + SZ112 = cleared  At least one of these 3 SZ has not been attacked (or the attack failed, leaving one destroyer or cruiser alive) : SZ 91, SZ 106 and SZ 109. Normandy is cleared.
      NCM: 2 fighters to Southern Italy.
      G1 buy : doesn’t really matter(*)

      Now, UK1.

      Combat move : doesn’t really matter as long as it allows these NCM (*)
      NCM : Fleet from SZ98 to SZ 92, Battleship + Cruiser from SZ 110 to SZ 92, ship left on the atlantic (destroyer, or cruiser, or if you are lucky both) go to SZ 104.

      Now, at the end of UK1, UK has actually a fleet ! It is well alive, it threatens seriously the Italian fleet, as well as it can come back to UK to give a hard time to Germany because Gibraltar cannot be closed before UK2.

      What do you guys think of that ? Can you live with the idea of UK having such a fleet (and well positioned) from the very begining of the game ? If someone spot a move that prevent this UK strat after that particular G1, please, let me know.

      Also, if you think that’s not worth it and UK has better things to do than that strat, feel free to say it.

      (*) Just to be clear: what i mean when i say a buy or move doesn’t really matter, is the fact that it can’t prevent the UK Strat described, on that particular G1. Of course, any move or buy is important in itself.

    • RE: Global is a true game of skill - the balancing factor

      The more i play, the more i come to the same conclusion…although it is not “final” (as so few things really are “final” in life…).

      The skilled player will constantly adapt to the situation, and play accordingly. Even if he’s unlucky with the dices, he will still make the apropriate moves given the position.

      The “just average” player will generally “stick to the plan”, even if that plan has now became bad because of the outcome of certain battles, or because of an inexpected move from the opponent or because of subbtle factors that were not taken into account in the first place.

      The more the game is complex (size of map, duration of the game, new rules, AB and NB that affect movement etc…), the more the skill factor will be rewarded.

      I also agree, this is the best AA game i’ve ever played, even better than my so beloved Guadalcanal.

      Also if the Lend Lease nation has other tech advancements such as Heavy Armored Tanks or Improved Bombing Sights should the receiving country get those benefits on those specific units as well?

      Lend lease is already the most powerful of all techs if USA has it, so adding it to other techs must sure be to much…

      So I have tried taking Gibraltar with the Germans G2, The Americans take it US3, then I counter attack the Americans with the Italians I3, and then the US takes it for good US5. Any thoughts, or is it just doomed.

      I think taking a territory (with the intent of keeping it) that can be reached by the US in one turn is just a sweet dream for the axis.
