    • RE: US IC in Norway

I’m going to have to side with those who think this is a bad idea.

      1. The majority of the UK’s income is vulnerable early in the game and Norway is cool 3 IPC to replace what you’re going to lose in India alone.
      2. If the US has transports they have options.  Attack western Europe or take back Africa for the Brits.  wherever they are need they can go.
      3. Why give Germany another IC?  If you build it the Germans will come and while the units headed to Norway aren’t attacking Russia, Japan sure will be.

    • RE: America

I’ve had success not attacking Pearl but only because the US player was frustrated that I could match his naval builds and still put troops into asia.  It slowed the march on moscow greatly but also kept the US from attacking Germany.  Anyway it was a solid Axis victory.  Leavig Pearl alone makes some players think Pacific campaign any money not going towards Germany is good to me.

I haven’t tried the WE IC yet but the next game I play with my friends I will.  I think it holds a lot of promise and it seems Jennifer has had some success.

    • RE: Australia IC

I don’t think it is a good idea.  You can only build 2 units per turn and with those 2 units you need to supply a navy to move any troops you produce there.  So that is an awful lot of money spent on an island that is very far from any of the fronts.  If you want to island hop do it as the US and save the UK’s money for the Germans Russia needs the help.

    • RE: German Factory Placement

That’s great.  My friends and I always like to try new things but I never considered Germany building an IC.  I always considered a German IC as a waste of money and a purchase that kept much needed defensive troops from being on the board.  The western IC idea has some promise I think.  I may just give it a go.

    • RE: Illegal/legal moves

Yes all the victorious survivors must go to West Russia.  That is why you declare which forces are going to be used to attack.  I know I have been guilty of sending way to many forces to attack a weakly defended territory only to wish I hadn’t sent so many.

    • RE: Has anyone ever taken London on G1?

One of the guys I play with tried to do it to me on G2 when I was the UK but the attack failed and left Germanyopen to a Russian offensive since he spent G1 money on transports.

    • RE: Please answer this VERY VERY Important question!!!

No because it was the UK that took the territory so it becomes their property regardless of whether they leave troops there or not.

    • RE: Canned Strats

I would have to say that core concepts are more effective for me.  It is the way I approach the game a country doesn’t have scripted moves but rather responsibilities.  I think that scripted or canned strats don’t factor in bad rolls or your opponents counter measures.  IMHO the only moves that can really be scripted are the R1 moves.  after that the game becomes highly reactionary.  I can’t tell you how many times I have had perfect plans for my next few rounds only to have those plans crushed by an enemy counter measure forcing me back to the drawing board again.  So for me scripts don’t work.

    • RE: ???I it possible to win with the Allies??? Please tell me!!!

There are a few keys to winning as the Allies.

      1. before the game even starts all 3 Allies have to focus on 1 Axis power.  IMHO Germany should be the target.  Rarely is there a game where Japan isn’t a juggernaut, so pick on Germany and force them to defend.
      2. When the US isn’t landing waves of troops in Western Europe they need to be sending troops to Africa to secure UK IPC.

The Allies are harder to win with because they have to work together where the Axis don’t rely so heavily on teamwork.  However once you get a naval infrastructure secured there isn’t much the Germans can do.

    • Transort Question

In A&AR is a transports capacity 1 inf and 1 land unit or 1 land unit and 1 inf?  What I mean is do you need to have an Infantry in order to transport a tank or can you just load 10 tanks on 10 transports?

    • RE: What nation do you like the least

I dislike Russia the most.  You spend most of your time preparing to get hammered and if the other allies don’t bail you out you’re watching the rest of the game.  If you just shuttle troops as UK it is boring too but Russia is waiting for the Axis to crush it

    • RE: Can the US have naval superiority?

I don’t see what purchases the US could make in 3 or 4 turns that couldn’t be countered by Japan.  Not only that but any US naval attack is telegraphed so Japan can also use their airforce.  What are your propsed purchases?

    • RE: Can the US have naval superiority?

I have been in many games where the US goes 100% Pacific and it never works out so well for Russia.  The UK loses control of the Africa quickly and if the US doesn’t help they don’t get it back.  Russia just can’t compete with Germany in production so if the US goes 100% Pacific then the bad guys win.

    • RE: Can the US have naval superiority?

The UK and US would have to either heavily reinforce Moscow or push hard in Western Europe to keep the Germans at bay.  Russia cannot take the chance of sending the bulk of their force east when all the early pressure comes from the west.

    • RE: How long is rev edition to play for everyone?

My friends and I try to play 10 but switch is right after 9 it is over.  The last game we played out the final VC and added like 3 to 4 hours torture for the UK and US.  9 is all you need.

    • RE: Can the US have naval superiority?

So the US can have superiority but it seems that it takes an awful lot of resources.  So say the US tries a 5 to 6 turn campaign against the Japanese and fails.  Is it too late to save the Russians from the Germans?  I guess the most important thing is to decide on a strat and stick to it.  My allied friends and I have our work cut out for us but I think with enough UK and US troops landing in archangel in 3 to 4 turns we can pull it off.

    • RE: Can the US have naval superiority?

If the US wants to develop a navy wouldn’t the Atlantic be a better place for it?  The Navy can be used to protect US and UK transports against the Luftwaffe.  After Germany is in shambles you could send it through the Suez and fight Japan from both directions if you so please.

    • RE: Can the US have naval superiority?

I understand that each country is in the end responsible for itself but if the Russian player makes his R1 moves assuming or after deciding on a KGF strat, then the US player does a 100% Pacific build as Russia you are going to be hurting.  I don’t think the US needs to do anything in the Pacific except prevent a Japanese invasion, and should send its units towards Europe.  However pacific builds will slow the Japanese assault on Mother Russia.  Buying time is great, but if it is only slowing the demise of Russia then what.  If Moscow falls it is really hard for the Allies to recover.
