If it is mid game I send Infantry from my IC’s in India and French Indo China, ARM from Manchuria and Japan. Keep the forces split among Kazakh, Novo and Evenki. This make the Russian player pick one of the smaller armies to attack or hold in Russia. Either way Russia is trapped between a rock (GER) and a hard place (JPN).

RE: German strategy for building ACposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I usually avoid subs because if the Uk and US attack with Airforce I want my ships to fire back even if it is with a 1. I would use TRNs as fodder. Not only because they do get 1/6 chance of hitting something but also a German fleet with several TRNs makes the UK player defend against a possible invasion attempt.

RE: R1 - To Defend ARC or LEN or not?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
The fact that Germany has no navy at that point and that Norway is difficult retake is exactly why as Germany I write Norway off as a loss. Now I am not saying that as Germany I would love to see Russia controlling Norway, Karelia, WR, and Ukraine, in fact it would be terrible. Then again so would my German strategy if I let Russia control all those.
To me as Germany losing Norway is not going to make me adjust fire. Now as jennifer said Russia having the same amount of IPC as me would definately have me thinking but then again there is always Japan to help out.

RE: German strategy for building ACposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
For the R1 builds it is just to keep the Allies from getting that foothold. After Russia is on the ropes (if your opponent doesn’t give up) you can build DST, TRNS, and BB. For the R1 purchase the standard is an AC. It defends well (even better if you land planes on it) and makes the allies commit more than they want to in order to destroy your fleet.

I get that Russia holding norway is 1 inf a turn but if as Russia it takes you 2 to 3 strafing runs to take the territory then as the german player I am happy. Just gives me time to consolidate a rather large army in EE to crush whatever russian held territory gives me the best strategic advantage.

RE: R1 - To Defend ARC or LEN or not?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Yes it would be nightmare for Russia to hold all those territories but not overcomable. If Russia tries to take all those territories they run the risk of stretching themselves thin which (as Germany) I would love to see.

I agree with Nix that if you are going to build a navy for Germany it is on R1. I never go for naval dominace with germany but you have to keep the UK and US busy while you batter down Russia’s door. If you build a navy put it in the Baltic but spend so much that you detract from the Russian front.

I don’t see the point of leaving an infantry in either. It is just going to get killed. So let’s say you are lucky and take a german with you, that will be a net loss of 1 ipc for germany (-3 for inf / +2 for territory) and a net loss of 5 ipc for Russia ( -3 for inf / -2 for territory). I don’t think Russia can afford to throw away troops or money. Leave the territory open and hope the germans are follish enough to blitz a tank.

RE: How much do the Axis help each other?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Japan takes Russian and British IPC’s which means less troops heading towards Germany. If Germany is in trouble Japan can invade Africa and/or Alaska/W. Can. The Axis don’t have to have a grand plan like the allies do but they do help each other.

RE: Russian strategy qustions….posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
West Russia is the key piece of real estate for Russia to hold off a German offensive. Sure if things get bad enough you can always retrograde back to Russia but don’t stage your defense there. Holding West Russia forces the germans to choose a direction for their offensive or wait until their forces are so overwhelming there is nothing Russia can do.
You could even leave Caucasas as a dead zone to entice the novice German player to send in a buch of tanks to control that precios Russian IC. Then with your West russian stack you remove most of Germany’s offense.

When playing as Germany I have never really focused on a navy. Like switch said the Baltic navy is a great blockade for UK. However as UK if Germany doesn’t make any additions to the Baltic I am happy.

RE: German bid: Two infantry in West Russia. Yay or nay?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I wouldn’t do it. Actually it seems like a waste of the bid. Every German in West Russia dies. It may make WR the only territory that Russia takes but that alone is not reason enough to place your entire bid in a death trap.

I usually attack West Russia only. I like the largest stack possible there to stall the german offensive. I usually purchase 4 inf and 2 arm and save a couple bucks on R1.

RE: Axis and Allies first turns - Germanyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
There is also an AC, IC, 3 Inf purchase to help establish a naval defense against an allied invasion of Western Europe. I’ve done it once with great success, I have read that Jennifer has used this as well. I haven’t used it again so I am not sure whether or not it is a one trick pony. It is fun to watch the allies scratch their heads in wonder.

While it usually takes some help, I love beating back the German offensive while having half (or less) of the money with Russia.

RE: French icposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I agree that the WEU german IC is a one trick pony because now the guys I play with are going to develop a strat to get around it. However I do enjoy the buffer it gives you before the massed invasion. I still think INF is the way to go for Germany but man is it fun to watch the allies try to figure out what to do with the WEU IC

RE: J1 Two IC Buildposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
For me J1 is 3 TRNs and 2 Inf. I like the flexibility the trns offer. I usually buy an IC on J 2 or 3 depending on the situation. Japan has troops to start but they can’t swim to the mainland so you need transports to get them there.

RE: French icposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Just tried the German naval strat tonight and I am impressed. It caught the Allies totally off guard and by the time they adjusted to the fleet off of western Europe I was marching through streets of Moscow. I would not get to crazy with naval purchases because Germany can get pretty bare. It’s a good strat and worth a go if you’re looking for something new.

RE: Does Germany ever build ICs?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
An IC is a waste of money unless you do Switches WE IC naval blockade. Japan is really the only country that should build an IC.

RE: Worst luck EVERposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
In a battle for supremecy in the Pacific Japan sent 3 BB’s to destroy my 2 US BB’s and lost. The Japanese player lost control of the Pacidic with that attack. Worst luck for him, best luck for me
