    • RE: What do your names mean?

I don’t know if my name needs explanation as well…

Axel is a name like any other in Belgium (I don’t know if it’s used in other countries as well as Pierre, Luke, Marie, Leo,…)
I choose this as my firstname because it links with two letters of “Axis”

my surname Allie isn’t difficult anymore if you know the first one :-)

so, you get my favorite game for the moment…
did you guys figure this one out yet?  8-)

      Interesting view!!!

I’m astonished of what the net can do nowadays!!!

I believe I’m the only Belgian around here…

and Yanny? I put my head in a position about 20 kilometers (about 13 miles) to the west of where I actually live.
If you would like to delete the head and tell me when I can place a new one EXACTLY where I live!

      @Squash:

That’s a plan so cunning you could stick a tail on it and call it a weasel!

      hmm, I don’t know this expression :?
      what does it mean?

    • RE: Extra IPC's every round

I’m thinking about making a larger map like some other people did before…

      and about the parts?
We never had a really close look, but I guess we could use the units of the old game as well.
(especially the chips would be important)

    • RE: Russian Black Sea Fleet

I think I’ll give a try at the strat Squash suggested…
of course: only when I’m playing with a newbie
      (the day after tomorrow, woohoo)

R buys a lot of infantry first turn (as usual)
and if UK still has a passage to the Med, the Indian ships go that way.
      then in R2: I’ll buy 3 trannies…

this means: in G3… Germany would have had an attack of 6 Russians somewhere along the southern border…

      but what I was thinking…
(this popped into my head while I was reading the thread, so I didn’t give it any serious thought so far)
If R3 does nothing with his trannies…
and UK3 does an invasion in Western Europe, USA3 reinforces this, and R4 reinforces as well!!!
I think Western Europe would be difficult to take back in G4?
      don’t you think?

    • RE: Japan's Inf.

In my last game I pulled out the infantery of Borneo to India in J3…

I had to ship them back to Borneo in J5 because I forgot the starting UK fleet could attempt an amphibious assault by then with some inf they could pick up from Australia…
(I did a Pearl attack on J1 while UK1 had withdrawn his fleet to Africa)

    • Extra IPC's every round

If you look to one of many big differences between A&A and A&AR…
every country has gotten an injection of IPC’s…

would you like the idea of getting EXTRA IPC’s every turn?
and I really mean extra here: if R has territories valuing 24 IPC’s this means 24+6=30 IPC’s at the end of his turn
so, to make things still balanced:
      10 IPC’s for both Axis makes 20 IPC’s
      6 IPC’s for every Ally makes 18 IPC’s…

of course this is subject to other injections as well.
why did I choose 20 IPC’s for Axis and only 18 for Allies?
In this case, the bid for Axis is no longer necessary, I think! :-)

why do I even suggest this knocked up and crazy idea?
while FLEET battles will be more often displayed and I guess even a huge AF will be a hell more tempting…
      don’t you think?

Let me know what you think of this friggin’ idea!!!

oh, by the way, I know:
people will buy more inf, art and arms as well! but battles will get closer to statistics when you have more units!
if you have 3 inf defending against 2 arms or you have 6 inf against 4 arms…
statistically the same, but in practice??
which would be more fun do you think?
      :-P

    • RE: What is your favorite country to play?

      wow,

most of the people like playing with the Axis more.
      (like I do…)

      I didn’t see that one coming…

    • RE: If newbies are playing their first game…

      so far,

I think you all made your point…
this is a very difficult decision :-)

I will slightly favor the axis when I talk about them and let him choose afterwards :-P
('cause I think combining Ally forces is much more difficult then everybody says it is - for a newbie, that is -)

    • RE: Weapons Development

I still think the heavy bombers are too destructive…
if you don’t have jet fighters, you may as well resign once a country has heavy bombers and a few bombers…

      combined bombardement is too weak…
Maybe I didn’t play with the right person to see, but he had this and never used it :-D
      LOL
nonetheless, I always think there is a good use for it, but I should try this once too see how things turn out…

      well,

I forgot it was even mentioned in the rulebook.
but hey, I always played it this way (the correct way apparently).

    • RE: SBR rule question

I think you can do both!

      SBR is always done first,
and also relevant: the IC is only yours after your turn is completely over (so, at the beginning of the turn of another country).

you can compare the latter with deploying troops!
your troops can only be placed in an IC that is yours at the beginning of your turn…

    • RE: Transport capacity and the dissappearing artillery

In another thread somewhere on the forum, I stated the same opinion as ncscswitch

I buy artillery and ship them as well as arms…
if I have 4 trannies waiting?
probably I’ll try to have them filled with 4 inf, 2 art, 2 arms…
my opinion is: you need some of all!

    • RE: Attacking Subs with Air Units

a subs “opening fire” is very essential…
if I’m preparing for a fleet battle, I buy lots of subs…
if you have ten of them, that’s 10 x 2, is somewhat about 3 hits before they can hit you back!
      if they have a destroyer?
the destroyer (for some players) should not be taken as a hit, or else the subs can do their thing…
so, BB’s might be taken as hits before a destroyer when a lot of subs are attacking…
      (I’ve seen it before :-P)

so, subs are not fodder only to me!
      (sometimes they are :-))

but indeed: they are only good in FLEET battles.
otherwise they are kind of useless while they have no defending value against AF whatsoever.
I like the idea of critmonsters houserule!
if they throw a ‘1’ or a ‘2’, they are just to deep in the water and the figs can’t spot them at all…

    • How many of you prefer a game where you can develop weapons?

to be honest, I do not like the idea of the techs…

some techs are extremely good, and others are not…

but what I dislike the most?
you are subject to a die roll…
you can throw 5 dice and still not throw a “1”
you can throw 1 die and throw a “1”
so, it’s a pull at the lever of a Jack the bandit (jackpot)

the change is too heavy and the impact can be devastating if someone develops a specific tech…
      (USA goes for heavy bomber,…)
