i have two , didn’t know you could zoom the first time  but still ended up pretty close

      LOL,

so as many others here, I think…

My placement in the non-zooming-mode was some 20 kilometers (13 miles) to the west of where I actually live.
      8-)

you could actually visit my house by my placement.

      without zooming??!??
      WOW!!!
      !!! congratulations !!!

    • RE: KJF - Now what do I do???

Since when is Brazil a part of Africa?

You can drop USA troops south of the neutral territories as well (I think it is in USA 2…)
you can prevent G from taking territories there…
G usually won’t take his AF to counterattack loss of those territories, while he can’t use the AF against Russia that way.

As for Algeria being countered and retaken? well, at least you gave G something to chew on for an extra round…
and don’t forget: there has to be German AF nearby (I think only Western will do?) and probably the BB, too (if G wants to wipe out those transports and the destroyer)…
if these are not present or nearby? then taking Algeria can be a pain in the a** for G.

who said they should sail to Northern Africa?
      :-P

if they would sail to Northern Africa, and G has AF nearby, BB in range,… don’t go there!

    • RE: KJF - Now what do I do???

Both KGF and KJF are good ways of trying to win as allies.

I myself played as Allies only once and did a hard KGF…
next time I will try a KJF as Allies and see how this works out.

I think Russia has to be albe to manage G with only a little help of UK and USA.
after all, once you spend 15 IPC’s in the first UK round for India. it takes 15 IPC’s every executive round (3 armor?), meaning you have 10 to 15 IPC’s to reinforce Russia…
USA can use the starting troops to drop in Africa and see what G is doing next. If he loses the idea of Africa, then USA can go Pacific all the way…
      that should to the trick…

    • RE: Stopping a shore bombardment of 5 BB's with one sub? Is it worthwhile?

      Well, ncscswitch,

you’re right about the extra shot for that one UK infantry…
therefor, the net result for G is a loss of 7,5 IPC’s rather than 7…

and if you take the two remaining trannies into account:
I can see why you bought that sub :-D
      good thinking!!!

      as for Nix,
      keep up the inventive strategies!!!
Sometimes I don’t know what you are planning to do next  8-)
(I remember ncscswitch said this in the game thread, too)

as for the BB’s being purchased and used to this extent?
      it was worth a shot!
but I think it is better to not use them in a constant infantry suicide mission.
It’s better to use them with a worthy load of units being transported…
the territory you offload can be cleared before a land unit hit the ground…

    • Stopping a shore bombardment of 5 BB's with one sub? Is it worthwhile?

I was looking at a current game of ncscswitch versus Nix…

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=6450.0

There was a situation where 5 UK BB’s had the opportunity to bombard German territory…
this can be stopped if G purchased 1 sub and places it in the sea zone adjacent to the territory that could be attacked.
that has been done in the game…

      the question is:
      Is this worthwhile???

      Nope, I don’t think it is :-)
      why?
ncscswitch made a calc on this in the thread…
but I think he forgot something :-)

      you’ve got 5 BB’s firing first: 5x4 = 20/6 = 3,33 units will be lost by G.
infantry will be choosen to be casualtied first, right?
      so this makes 3,33 x 3 IPC’s = 10 IPC lost for G…
a sub costs only 8 IPC’s, so if you place this one and lose it, this is a gain, you think?
      nope!  8-)
to attack with BB’s you need a landing troop!
so, UK needs at least ONE infantry to do the job :-P

      this means: G loses (statistically=theoretically of course) 10 IPC’s and UK loses 3 IPC’s (1 infantry) :-P
or, a net result of 7 IPC’s loss for G.
      a sub is 8 IPC’s…

      right?

I’m glad to see a KJF is indeed possible.

I’m thinking of placing this strategy in a game someday, too.

(I will have to play a lot of games to try all of the strategies)

    • Do you have your own A&A Revised game?

I just couldn’t stand the thought of NOT being able to put the pieces on the board and play it while I play all 5 countries…

    • How long since you bought A&A Revised?

I bought my own game of A&A Revised in December (2005), 2 days after I played Pacific for the first time.
This game of Pacific was my introduction game to whatever A&A-minded game that has been published so far!

    • RE: From which continent are you?

      Well, actually…

I’ll give a try on this quiz :-)
and I didn’t check for correct answers anywhere!
      (If I’m wrong, you’ll see immediately…)

Capitol is Washington and this is located in Washington D.C. (District Columbia)
New York, formerly known as New Amsterdam :-) and also known as the big apple (don’t know where this name is from…)
      Los Angeles
San Fransisco (also known by the famous bridge - Golden Gate?)

I have to admit, though… IF these 3 are Major Cities, I don’t have a clue in which state they’re located in…
And for us Europeans, I think I can speak for all of us: this is not seen in school!!!
We see USA as a country, but we did not look at it in detail as over 50 states combined!

In that case, I can even mention that Belgium is formed as a group of 10 local provinces (each with their own governor) - which are pretty similar to the structure of a state in America!!!

but can you name some of our provinces or can you give their Major City? I don’t think so…

What I wanted to say: If I don’t know the names of the states USA is made of, this isn’t too bad for me.
'cause I think you didn’t even know Belgium was made of 10 provinces itself, right?

BTW: this isn’t important to me in any way, so don’t feel sad if you didn’t know this

    • RE: Low Luck

      @ezto:

Low Luck makes this game more interesting. It prevents silly things from happening such as losing 2 fighters to two transports. It makes the game more realistic. What are your insights?

      maybe,

but still, all comes down to calculating then.
I think it’s phenomenal to win or lose an important battle by die, but this is part of the game I WANT to play :-)
I can believe some like “low luck” more then only “luck”
      but not me…
I will still play with those little cubes I while longer!

    • RE: US tactics

      Still ncscswitch,

I think Wood the rook has some great thoughts…
Indeed, you take some pressure of Germany, but only for one or two rounds…
Instead, you make Japan deal with something he didn’t expect at all…
so, USA takes the pressure of Russia in the east :-P

I will certainly try something similar with USA and let you all know how it worked :-)

Rhode Island USA and just for those who think that all Americans don’t know where Sweden and Belguim are….

I didn’t say ALL Americans don’t know where Sweden and Belgium are :-P
But I know SOME think Brussels is a country in Europe as well (and it’s only our capital - but you knew that, right)

I might build an IC in Egypt some day…

when my Med transport(s) are dead and can’t be resurrected…
AND when I have a chance of holding Africa (Arrica for some people on the forum :-P)

I would build one overthere for fun!

    • RE: What is your favorite Axis country to play?

      wow,

this is like 707 means LOL?
      and 1414 means hIhI?
(hihi in Dutch is someone who giggles or chuckles,…)

then you have 707+707=1414 or LOL+LOL=hIhI…

where do I get these calculation and why, you could ask?
in old calculators, where you have digits that are rectangulary shaped, and you insert 707 and turn your calculator upside down: then you have LOL :-)

did you know 319738 is good for “Belgium” in Dutch = BELGIE (the name of my country in my mother tongue…)

      @Malus:

      1337 = leet = leetspeak = geekspeak = lead = “cool”

I don’t know what a leet is, but I get the gist of it :-)

    • RE: Funniest stories

When I was 8, the teacher had to punish me for something I did wrong in his class.
He told me to write 8 pages of paper he gave me.
I started writing, and I got the idea of writing REALLY, REALLY big :-)
I still wrote on the printed lines, but words of 3 or 15 letters, it didn’t matter: every word fitted into one line :-)
hard to say, I finished my job in less than 15 minutes…

When he saw my ‘essay’, he gave me a new assignment, so I couldn’t interpret his words any more: he said: “you’ll copy these 2 pages of this book, writing on this paper over here…”
