    • RE: An introduction and a question about Strat. bombing

At the official website of a&a, you can find an errata in the rulebook:
Pg. 25, Weapons Development – Rockets: Delete the sentence “Choose an industrial complex within 3 spaces and roll one die per rocket launcher (the maximum each rocket can inflict is the territory’s income value).” Replace it with “In each territory, one antiaircraft gun may attack an industrial complex within 3 spaces, though each industrial complex may be attacked by only one rocket launcher in a turn. The maximum loss each rocket can inflict is the target territory’s income value.”

Which means: if you play with techs: you can have 2 AA’s in UK and make a rocket strike at the 2 IC’s of G! for a maximum roll of 6 for both the IC’s…

but no, this is NOT true! somewhere on the same page of the FAQ’s you can find these sentences:
_I don’t understand the limitations on rocket attacks. Please clarify.

An AA gun can fire one rocket attack per turn.
Only one AA gun can fire rockets out of a territory, no matter how many AA guns are in that territory.
An industrial complex can be hit only once per player turn, no matter how many enemy AA guns are within range. Under the right circumstances, however, an IC in Germany could be hit by a rocket once in the Soviet player’s turn and again in the British player’s turn.
The maximum range of a rocket attack is three spaces._

so, if UK has a AA in UK and one in Norway for example… THEN they could make G lose 12 IPC’s at best!
(2 AA, each in a different territory can attack 2 different IC)
and that’s with rocket strikes only!

then you still have the SB, too…
again a FAQ at the official website:
IPC loss from strategic bombing is limited to the territory’s income value. Is that per bomber or per turn?
      **_Per bomber.[/i[/b]]

Which means: if you SB with 12 bombers, and 10 get through the AA, then you can throw 10 dice. no need to make a calc here, right?

remark: I’m not suggesting that I’m pro SB, I’m only clarifying the rules._**

hmm, i’m not sure, but if you’re working with techs…

isn’t it the case that UK can take 10 IPC’s with rocket strikes AND 10 IPC’s with strategic bombing?
USA can do the same: 10 + 10.
so, this makes a total of 40 IPC’s?

i repeat: i’m not sure, 'cause we only played with techs the first time we played.
we dropped it because it’s to much luck based for us…

    • RE: About air units

when i was starting to play a&a a while ago, i had the same question about movement…

i went to the official site and it was a FAQ there…
      they said something like:
      “you can move 4 spaces in total. the possible ways are: 0 combat/4 non-combat; 1 combat/3 non-combat; 2 combat/2 non-combat; 3 combat/1 non-combat”
notice that you can only move 4 spaces in combat if you are attacking a seazone AND you have a carrier there to make a save landing (either the carrier was attacking, too, or the carrier moved there in your non-combat)

    • RE: How many Players is the perfect number for Axis and Allies?

      2!

then you are always busy doing something…
calculating odds, determing what to buy next,…
you always focus on the game…

      when you’re with 3,4 or 5… then it’s getting really boring…
so you start doing totally different things and aren’t thinking about axis&allies at all…
      you get distracted more easily…

    • RE: Africa Folly for Germany?

I agree, like most people here, that a sting in Africa by G can be a real pain in the eye for the allies. For a little effort, G gains a lot in return: extra IPC’s if the allies are not doing something about it AND if the allies do something in order to get it back, they lose a lot of equipment in order to do so…

      @DasReich:

I played a game yesterday, as Germany. On T1 I built a baltic AC and 8 inf. I attacked Anglo-Egypt w 1 tank and 1 inf from SEUR. Destroyed the DD with BB in a single hit. Took planes from the balkans to attack anglo egypt and landed them in Lybia. I attacked Gibraltar BB with atlantic sub, 2 fightrs 1 bomb. Egypt fell on round 1. Africa was wide open cause the brits were also busy defending their “commonwealth” factory in India

I wonder how you can take Gibraltar in G1 without a bid of an extra transport in the Med while you attack Anglo-Egypt with units from SEUR… While you need your only transport to take those units to Anglo-Egypt, you have no transport left to capture Gibraltar. I hope you know that with planes only, you can’t take an empty enemy territory… you need an amphibious assault (with ground units, thus) to make Gibraltar belong to G. So the fastest way to take Gibraltar if you transport troops to Anglo-Egypt, is on G2, right?..

      @DasReich:

On the next few turns, I was able to assault Caucus with a transport and a shore bombardment without interference from the Indian Navy. Moreover, i could bring reinforcements on the eastern front much faster than on foot with my transport. I landed a single tank in Africa and it gave me an extra 10 ipc’s per turn…

Very strange… Your opponent didn’t do anything about it? lol… well, when i play with my friend, he normally has a stack of GB-planes in Russian territories so he would attack every fleet in the Med who gets near Russian territory…

    • RE: First Time Troubles

      Same here,

my fiancee was not interested at all…
she loves board games in general, but not all of them as i can say.
i had to play it with my friends instead.

one day, i got an idea!
she wanted me to go shopping with her…
      (normally, she calls her mum…)
i said: “OK, we’ll go shopping IF you want to play 1 hour of axis&allies with me!”
she thought for a while and said: “and even if the game is not over? i can stop?”
      i replied: “yup!”
      we went shopping  :-(
but the day after: we played axis&allies for 2 hours!
and remember this: after 1 hour, i asked her: “do you want to do something else?”
but she said: “no no, i want to see where this is going”
      :-P
      BINGO!!!

i have to say: i made my decisions real quick in order to keep things going (even then i was winning)…
and after playing she said she wants to play it again some day…
(better once in a life time than never :-P)
