    • RE: New Tac Bombers for my set, painted fgtrs

      Someone posted pics (somewhere) of Vals in about the same scale as the game aircraft. They came unpainted in a bag of 4 and you had to glue the landing gear on. For the life of me, I can’t recall where or the name of the company that made them. Any ideas?

    • RE: Getting extra pieces?

      I was surprised to see a big yellow envelope in my mailbox yesterday and thought maybe WotC came through. Then I turned it over and saw it was an HDMI cable I ordered last week.

      Ha ha RJL bankrupted WotC/AH’s piece replacement budget!

      I made the exact same claim about not enough units to set up the game and was brushed off.

      Oh well, if they short Germany tac bombers in A&AE:40, I can just use some of the scores of Stukas from the other games.

      Unless they change Germany’s national colors to purple or something lame like that.

      Actually I’m now concerned Germany won’t get enough tanks or mechanized infantry…

      @skinny1:

      Here is the response that I received from WotC:

      The units you see that were sent out in the forums were for for orders that occurred before Game Support had received the correct piece count for the game. So, unfortunately we cannot provide you extra pieces for the game. We do have a limited amount of replacement pieces, but those are for games that are defective, which include having broken or misshapen pieces, or if a game is missing pieces that are supposed to be in the box.

      We do appreciate your feedback regarding the number of pieces provided in the game and have passed the comments on to the game designers.

      Thank You

      Heh heh, I guess the early birds got the tac bombers. I can envision some bean counter running down the hallway shouting “stop sending out TAC aircraft! This is going to cost us tens of dollars!”

      I recall when WotC messed up the unit count in the first Axis & Allies Pacific, you could at least go to the Hasbro customer service page and purchase units by nationality to make up the deficit. (Their actual solution was to send out a bag of infantry which was at least something). In fact, I purchased a complete set for both Pacific and Europe just to do away with chips, and it cost a lot less then buying two more copies of the games. Now they won’t even let you do that. I’d gladly pay $7 or so for a set of Japanese units than have to buy another entire game at $60+. Which would be a waste, since all the other piece counts seem to be perfect unlike the earlier versions.

      Just curious Butcher, did you also get Sam as your contact? Wonder how long he will continue sending out tac bombers before he gets a “talking to” by management. lol

      I got Jamie and was escalated up to Troy but they said nothing about sending anything out other than the battlestrip.

      Some days you win vs the Inconsistent-Customer-Service-bear and some days the bear eats you.

    • RE: Disapointed

      Here’s what I foresee for future versions of A&A boardgames: :wink:

      “Player aid” cards (set up charts, IPC track, battleboard etc) will be printed on the mapboard. :?
      Only the “new” units introduced to the game will be provided. Players will be required to provide pieces from previous versions of the game including dice and chips.  :x
      Only one of each of whatever new unit being showcased in the current version of the game will  be provided: players will have to create markers for additional units on bits of paper.  :cry:
      The rule book will only include errata for the last version of the game and new rules for the new units.  :-(
      The map will be printed without mounting on recycled theme park map paper. It will be folded into the size of a wallet to maximize annoying creases that will obscure borders and data in the “player aid” sections. This will increase traffic to the official website of people asking for clarifications. They will be ignored.  :-o
      Games will be packaged in ziplock bags. But not real ziplock, the cheap knockoffs that don’t stay shut.    :roll:

      Complaints will be responded to with messages acknowledging “known issues” of which only the least expensive will be corrected, if at all.  :evil:

      Have I missed anything?  :lol:  :-D :-P

    • RE: Scramble from airbases

      @antoniocapo:

      According to the rules, one can scramble defending fighters and tactical bombers from island territories only (one space territory) to protect the adjacent sea zone. This means that Japan can protect its sea zone but neither India, Australia or the Weast Coast of the US adjacent sea zones can be protected from its air bases.  This rule seems extremely unfair to the Allies and very unrealistic.  For example my fleet in India or the West coast sea zones can’t be defended by my huge amounts of air there? You mean the US navy is safer in Hawaii than in San Diego?  :? Thats not right! :|

      I can see some mechanism to allow SOME of your aircraft to scramble from a coastal territory, but not all of them. After all, island territories provide a small focal point for a battle in a vast, empty ocean and the enemy fleet has to be in range in order to offer battle. Coastlines hundreds or a thousand miles long have an even vaster area to defend against. They can have any number of anchorages and major airbases. Which one is being attacked? How are you going to keep track and divide your forces among them? Leave one undefended and you leave an open door for your opponent. Defend all of them and you weaken your force to allow one or more to be taken. I think Larry made it this way is to make it easier to defend as an all or nothing proposition which is an advantage to the defender. I suppose the West Coast could be subdivided, but then so would the sea zone which would actually be more of a hindrance to the US. Besides, carrier type planes in Seattle don’t have the range to fly down to engage an enemy fleet off the coast of San Diego.
