    • RE: Japan declaring war question

      @Krieghund:

      Jim is correct.  An attack by Japan on the UK/ANZAC does not result in an immediate state of war with the US.  It merely gives the US permission to declare war on Japan on its next turn.

      So much for simplicity.  :-P

      Wait a minute, does this mean the US DOESN"T have to declare war on their next turn? Or ever?

      :lol:

    • RE: New US strat thats tough to beat

      @Gwlachmai:

      There is nothing in the OP to suggest incorrect play. He says by round four there are 8 bombers in Queensland. He does not say what round Japan declares war. Both of these are entirely possible within the rules of the game. It’s only one round to fly from Western US to Queensland. It doesn’t take poor Japanese play for the allies to win.

      I don’t contend the bomber numbers, but was responding to his stunning example of their use.

      Watching a hoard of bombers accumulate without doing anything about them seems to fall under “poor Japanese strategy.” Since he only got hit by it twice, hopefully by now Gravy has figured out the counter.

      True that, bad dice runs can be a killer. Just wish more people would be like Gravy and post those strategies rather  than just saying they exist.

      Incorrect game play seems to be a common problem with the few ‘winning’ allied strategies that get posted. Poor Japanese play and rare situational exploitations cover the rest.

      @Todd7912:

      The Battle strips are even printed right! :-) Altough, some of the bombers took a little beating in the mail, it is nice to have them.

      I wonder if there will be a video of a happy Hitler? :wink:

      No.

      @Uncle_Joe:

      Apparently they dont have their procedure straight. Some people are being told to send it in and others are not….Honestly I think they just need to make a frickin’ policy about how they want it done and stick to it…

      I’m thinking the guy who wrote the memo explaining the exchange policy is the same guy who wrote the Political Situation Rules.

      #468

      Lol

      Seriously though, just think what a convoluted nightmare the Political Rules are going to be for Europe. I should sell them the political rules I came up with for my A&A Europe 1939 set up–less than half a page and very clear and concise…

      @Razor:

      I figure it is kind of weird that WOTC, who make strategy games, do so piss poor planning.

      You have to remember most of the folks at WotC are Magic and D&D experts. Avalon Hill and Axis and Allies was forced on Wizards by their parent company Hasbro as a cost-cutting effort to reduce staff/facilities. The results of this unpopular move speak for themselves.

      @Razor:

      I think WOTC need a new crew. People that actually play A&A.

      I’m sure there are a few, but the other brands have priority on their time. Again the proof is in the pudding.

      Still waiting for Axis and Allies Monopoly. It’s so unfair Star Wars and Harry Potter get a monopoly and we don’t.  :cry:

      And whatever happened to Axis and Allies the Gathering?  :-o

      Funny Video :-D
      It sums up months of forum conversations in a few minutes.

      My fav. part of the video is when he asked non play testers to leave the room.

      My favorite was 150 euros for a Glenn Drover game kit.

      Oh, and how Hitler always got owned at Europe and D-Day for “some reason.”

    • RE: Bad Moves?

      I agree with McMan, I’d like to see some of these winning Allied strategies that don’t hinge on rules misinterpretation or noobish Japanese execution.

      Uncle Joe is on the right track. Forcing Japan to respond to “bad moves” also causes them to dilute their forces to deal with those situations and delay and prevent them from concentrating their forces to quickly and easily seize objectives.

      So far, though, these delays haven’t cost Japan any games, but it sure does make things more interesting.

      What about the board and the rulebook? Those mistakes are HUGE  :-o!

      And some are just funny, like the CHINESE destroyer and submarine in the example at the bottom of page 11.

      seriously?  why is nobody else here acknowledging this post?

      I figured he was one of the “early birds” who got their request in weeks ago before the bean counters put their foot down and said “no more free units: it’ll cost this company tens of dollars”.

      Hey thanks Hellmet! That’s exactly what I was talking about. Thinking about getting the Kates to use for the carriers. BTW, what was the orange color you matched to the pieces?
