    • RE: Veteran German Paratroops

Thanks, I found one of my three veteran models today. I’ve about 20 of the original guys.

    • RE: US Class & Names

Half Track, that list represents a lot of steel and more than a few good men!

What were the differences in CV, CVL and CVE carriers?

    • Veteran German Paratroops

Is there a physical difference between the standard German paratroop model and the Veteran paratroop.  As I dig through and sort my millions of soldiers I’ve two separate cards Costed 8 and 10 points respectively but so far only the standard model.  I’ve still piles of men to sort.

    • RE: Paratroop placement

Each is an individual unit so you can “drop” them in whenever you want according to their deployment rules. My experience though is that a piece meal delivery gets them chopped up.  I prefer to put them in early and in force so that they have a chance of holding out.

    • RE: New units announced for eastern front!

Depending on the year, the Finnish soldiers can fight off the Russian and then fight off the Germans.  Do they come with skis on or a sauna?

    • RE: FINALLY! the new revised cards are available!!

      Motdc,

I take exception to the term broken.  Everything in life is in transition including these rules.  Of course it would be great if they were pefectly sorted out when we first bought into the game but we’d still be waiting for the game.

I’m not privy to WotC politics but I’m sure the game designers are doing their best to keep the game on the rails.  Solutions will be easier to find when the suggestions for change are more positive.

    • RE: Plane cover

My understanding is that airplane facing is important for a number of things such as returnng fire from the bround in the advanced rules but dog fighting in the air between planes has no facing.

    • RE: Paratroopers, anti air unit fire

      d142,

The simple answer is no, you can not shoot paratroops as they float to the ground.  There is various debate about paratroop use and I think Motdc said it best.  They represent the confusion on the battlefield.  Some think they should be deployed prior to turn one but they are just what they are.  They can change the course of a game but my experience is to jump in immediately to hold ground at the objective instead of arriving later and trying to fight onto the objective.  More often then not, I’ll limit their jump capability and use them just as hardcore infantry soldiers.

    • Card Changes

      What are people doing.

      1. Printing a new label that can go over the old card. I’m thinking black on white so I can read it
      2. Maitaining a separate list for reference with the new card info
      3. Printing out the new cards on some card stock
      4. Just playing with original stats
      5. Some other idea

    • RE: Axis & Allies Minis to Flames of War Conversions

At 43 years of age I’m doing a university undergraduate degree in psychology.  Last night I dropped by the campus gaming club.  They thought I was administration there to kick them out of the room the had not properly booked.

Though there is the “classics gamers” (ie not computer side) they are Warhammer 40,000 guys.  I’ll introduce them to AAM if I can but I too don’t really fit their crowd.

    • RE: Carrier Battles

I lie the idea that ones air recce can go out and not be succesful.  As you suggest, line of site occurs at 4 grid squares.  This may be a place where air recce is sent out on predetermined missions and the umpire compares missions to enemy missions or fleet movements to determine in contact is possible.  Roll a die for each grid the air recce has entered regaurdeless of whether the umpire determines if contact is possible.  and if the umpire says contact is possible it will only be revealed after the role.  Then set up the sea battle.

    • RE: Stuka performance

Unless the historical context requires paratroops to be behind the lines I like to use paratroops as they normally are used, just as high speed soldiers.  I usually don’t allow their paratroop ability.

    • RE: A&A variant

This is being done over on the Wizards Gleemax site.  It sounds appealling though time consuming too.  Right now it is being done with Guadacanal.  If nothing else it would give me reason to fight with my Japanese army.

There is some point system to convert between the board game and the minis game.

I believe they can attack but their attack values will do little harm.
