    • Revised-LowLuck-Tournament at FoE added as RotR is postoned

      Hello,

the Rivals-of-the-Rhine (RotR) Interclub Tournament is postponed for at least two months because of the hacker attack on the AAMC website. Therefore Flames-of-Europe.de added a AAR-LowLuck-Tournament to fill this “gap”.

You man only sign in at a “blank” link (i.e. there is no description yet, it can only be found at the second link). Please join under http://www.flames-of-europe.de/modules.php?name=Dicey&file=dtournament&tid=18

      More details see http://www.flames-of-europe.de/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=852

      Bye,

      Andreas

    • RE: Revised Diceys

      @ncscswitch:

I have never used Flames, so cannot speak to theirs.

The dicey of Flames-of-Europe.de is almost identical to AAMC`s “New Dicey” (where maps are uploaded on the server). In fact, AAMC has taken over the FoE dicey and added a few features!

And to correct a small “misunderstanding”: you CAN recieve e-mails for everything (or parts) if you like (purchase, CM-declaration, CM-rolls and results, NCM, etc, …) if you cross that in your “settings”, but there is no need to recieve any mails as every info can be seen on the server!

    • RE: Caspian Sub Policy Paper #16: Tech assessment.

Rockets can do heavy cash damage and even “safe Moscow” in some games!

Germany has 2 initial ICs (GER & SEU), Japan normally builds a new one in IND (in this game also one in SIN was built).

Immagine Russia  has an average to strong russian army and an average UK-army protecting only Moscow, but it is cut off from further allied supply as Germany firmly holds LEN and Japan is in CAU so that neither the US-Army in Egypt, nor much more UK-troops can advance (besides some trades of NOR and ARC and amph. assaults on all countries around the Mediterranean). With US-rockets on 5 ICs (aa-guns placed in GBR, ALG, LIB, EGY & MOS) and a allied navy in the Med, this really helps to slow down the axis and I even plan to devellop rockets for UK! If you have 4 or more potenial targets, its imho definitely worth going for it! Average demage is twice 3,5$ (SEU, GER), once 3$ (CAU) and once 2,5$ (IND). Thats a demage of 12,5$ per round with an US-investment of about 43$ (“average cost” of 33$ with two dice per round for gaining the tech and 10$ for two additional aa`s). And it this strategic situation there is nohing better to do for USA. Game is a toss-up and will certainly take very long!

SuperSubs are great if USA only invests in a Pacific battle and can be used as a strategy!

HB & ComB are imho a little too week in LHTR and are used very rarely.

Jets are only good for tactical use, i.e. if you have to increase your fgt-defence immediately from 4 to 5 as you expect an attact on a key territory! As a (long-term) strategy they are almost useless (e.g. immunity against aa`s is fine, but buying another fgt for 10$ to compensate an aa-theat is much cheaper)!

LRA may be “nice to have” is some situaitions (both strategic and tactical), but as you can only use it next round, they are never a “game-breaker”

    • World at War 2005 edition

I heard that this new boardgame (from Xeno Games) has come out recently in the USA. In Europe it will be available in the next few days.

Has anybody played it yet? Please post some opinions!

Could anybody make a screenshot of the map?

P.S.: If anybody in the USA could scan the rules and map so that we could offer it for online play at Flames-of-Europe as soon as possible, I would appreciate a PM.

    • RE: Europe tournament at Flames open for sign-up!

The tournament has startet, but “late entries” would theoretically be possible for the next few days, if players with “byes” would agree to give them up!

    • RE: Heavy Tanks - a new technology

      Hello,

tanks were for offence in the “old” game (3 on attack, 2 on defence) and, of course, mobility. In Revised they made it 3/3. That was a great idea and changed a lot towards buying more tanks and less infantry. So the “logical” improvment would be a 4/3 Heavy-Tank, i.e. 4 on offfence (and not on defence)! The proposals of “every second or third” are too complicated imho and making a unit more expensive if you just have spend lots of money for the tech is not “logical” either imho! Nor should you pay more for new tanks (with tech) than for the old ones (without tech)!

But it like the general idea to replace “combined bombardment” with heavy tanks. Actually I proposed that earlier in the AH forum, but Larry Harries didn`t want to take over this idea when changing the LHTR into version 2!
