      The liberated capital’s owner would collect IPCs at the end of its turn, so if US liberates France, and italy recaptures Paris, no income would be stolen because France has not had a turn yet.

    • Aircraft on a defending carrier

      We are arguing about the following rule on page 31 europe or 32 pacific.

      Page Air units based on a defending carrier must land on the same carrier if possible after the battle. If that carrier is destroyed or damaged in combat, they must try to land on a different friendly carrier in the same sea zone, move 1 space to a friendly carrier or territory, or be destroyed. This movement occurs during the Noncombat Movement phase, before the acting player makes any noncombat movements.

      Can you land only on islands or any territory that is one space away? My friend is saying that it costs 2 to move to the mainland, but only 1 to move to the island, therefore you can only land on islands to respect the rule above. I say you can land anywhere that is one space away, regardless of what it is.

    • RE: Mobilizing a CV and landing planes on it

      @Sire:

      Looks like you are right…

      «• A fighter or tactical bomber can land in a sea zone
      (even a hostile one) that is adjacent to an industrial
      complex you own if you will be mobilizing an aircraft
      carrier that you previously purchased in that zone
      during the Mobilize New Units phase.»

      …from the A&A Europe rulebook p.23.

      For those who struggled to find this, it’s actually on page 22.

    • RE: Optimal UK1 med to clear italian fleet

      I always ponder attacking that transport and destroyer in SZ 96 with either a fighter or a destroyer. It’s a 50-50 fight and a little better if you send a fighter, and you get rid of the transport for free. What’s your thought on diverting one resource to try your luck?

    • Optimal UK1 med to clear italian fleet

      Hi guys,
      what’s the best use of your resource to kill the Italian fleet UK1? Do you go for 2 of the 3 fleets or concentrate on SZ97? Which one and what do you bring to bear? I can’t seem to find options of what works well.

    • Mobilizing a CV and landing planes on it

      Can you mobilize a CV in a SZ that contains planes that would otherwise be lost if not for that CV? Are the planes lost? Is the only way to have planes on a brand new CV to build them at the same time? Thanks!

    • RE: Pointlessly Broken

      How about a few UK land troops in Canada to help balance the odds? Without industries or transports nearby, their only purpose would be to improve odds of USA in winning that battle. Basically the same solution than in Europe with the french units in London.

    • RE: Pointlessly Broken

      Then every Axis and Allies game ever made is broken.  Do you really expect the designers to come up with a setup that is exactly even?

      Dude, even in CHESS you don’t have a 50/50 chance of winning.  White has the advantage because it moves first, even though it can only move one piece and all the pieces on both sides are the exact same and in the exact same position.

      By your reasoning, chess is broken.

      Wow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-move_advantage_in_chess
      Great comparison Gamerman! I love it.

      @vonLettowVorbeck1914:

      @DWoodchuck:

      I bounced this idea off of my other players, and we had tentative agreement.  Let me know what you think:

      If the USA falls, Japan gets the IPCs as normal less the 30 that come from the national objective.  That puts the  Japanese gain at only 17 or so IPCs, which leaves the UK and ANZAC on more even terms.  So in a nutshell, national objective income disappears instead of changing hands.

      Does this sound tenable as a house rule?  I think it may need a bit of refinement, but the concept is justifiable.

      It helps, but honestly it’s still no enough from where I am standing.

      I agree that this is probably not enough if China still can only produce infantry and artillery. Japan can ignore mainland china altogether. Maybe allowing them to produce airplanes if they capture Shanghai, Jehol (Beijing) and Hong Kong is under allied control would help.

    • RE: German Blueprint: G1 Attack on Russia

      @Young:

      @Axistiger13:

      Ive an new idea:

      buy an x number of tts, place then in sz 112, (takes 2 turns, not adjacent ot any IC) load them with troops, and land not in britain, but at nenetsia, the territory just east of archangel. (or, you might just land at archangel itself, your choice)

      what do you say?

      That landing is a viable option, however, only at the right time in the game. As Germany, you will need to make sure that your fleet doesn’t get trapped in the north sea leaving your side of the channel coast unprotected. I have done a landing like that in the past with good success, but IMO the game situation has to warrant it.

      agreed, unless you can defend the transports against 2-3 planes and possibly boats, it’s a risky endeavour. And depending on how many transports you can bring about, perhaps for little benefits.

    • RE: German Blueprint: G1 Attack on Russia

      Bang on Grasshopper. Literally, as a Russian facing a G1 Barb, you are never sure of any of your choices, as they always translate into either a military victory on one battle or a better strategic move (such as consolidating territories or strategic retreat), but never both.

      Couple that with SBing the closest russian factories and you’re guaranteed to be in Moscow at G6. In addition, you give free reins to Japan in Asia as the russian player will probably not be sending tanks-mechs there.

      You force Russia to concentrate their ressource all on the germans (or face faster defeat), thus giving more leeway to the italians and Japan.

      and as you say i really dont care to lose 4-5 tanks if that means that i kill 6-7 infantry plus a couple artillery. Chances are he has nothing to even threaten your forces that will kill his counter-attack. His reinforcements are more expensive to replace than yours.

    • RE: German Blueprint: G1 Attack on Russia

      I really like G1 Barbarossa. Even with average to less than average rolls, the key is that you get the initiative from the Russians and you never lose it. You can get counter-attacked but it will always be costly to Russians in terms of strategy. Most counter attacks put high value pieces right in front of a German stack. Russia always has tough choices, for example combine two medium-sized stacks or stay and fight for that territory. Either way, Germany wins - it captures a vacant territory with a blitzing tank or it takes an extra turn to consolidate armies to crush the single territory like Novgorod.

      I find that by turn 4-5 of a G1 Barbarossa, Germany ends up losing tanks to kill infantry but it’s all worth it given that it’s almost guaranteed that Moscow falls in 6 turns.

      All in all on G1 Barb you can: take France (I don’t take Normandy) and kill most of the UK fleet. Even if you take airplane losses you still finish on top.

      So consider this my full endorsement of Grasshopper’s strategy.
