Was wondering if the customizers might be doing some oddball ships like cruise ships, hospital ships, ore carriers, and tanker ships, with errata to make them playable like hospital ships can add infantry units at various points to a side, and oilers and ore carriers can add artillery and mobile units at certain points?

RE: Naval miniature fever!!!posted in War at Sea
Asterios, I was telling my buddy that we may have to take a trip to Stockton soon and see that conference room of yours. Santa Rosa to Stockton is what 3 hours?
depends on how you drive, me I did a round trip from N. Stockton to LAX in 11 hours and stopped for lunch.

RE: Naval miniature fever!!!posted in War at Sea
think there is a differance in the number of ships (one has more then the other) but not sure, that and one has island pieces while the other doesn’t.

RE: Naval miniature fever!!!posted in War at Sea
No, haven’t picked up the new Fortress America, and not sure I will be since it seems like there is no real change, as it goes for now i’ll be working on getting me a copy of Axis and Allies: Pacific and Axis and Allies: Guadalcanal and maybe the anniversary edition, non A&A games I might get though are the Risk Legacy edition, AOE III boardgame (iffy) and then maybe the new Fortress America.

Actually not a basement, but my back room, which was added on to the house and converted into my office, but yes have a conferance table which is plenty of room to play, even have the office chairs for seating, just need to find the players, and as to my minis also up for selling if you want to make an offer?

your lucky me i’ve yet to find anyone who is interested in playing any A&A game around me, heck the game stores stopped selling all minis and most games (found one A&A game) except for TRU which keeps a couple games in stock in their store.

RE: US pacific strategyposted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
Well not having played the Spring 42’ version I’ll base my theory on the original version as the US you go last, which is a good thing, in the respect that you get to react, which is much better then deciding on an action, you can judge where and when your needed and act accordingly, if Britain and Russia have Germany on the ropes concentrate mostly on the Pacific, if the they need help concentrate mostly on the atlantic.
now when Japan takes out my carrier in pearl I’ll build another and stock it with the fighters from the mainland with the california BB and transport as tag alongs, with those 3 and a transport or two more you have some island hoppers to invade the Japanese held islands with.
and if you can get Britain and Russia to kick Japan off the Asian land mass Japan will be done with.

Thanks, didn’t notice the pics at the bottom, but curious how the game differs from the original in playability though if any differances.

RE: Speculating the differences between 1st and 2nd Editionposted in Axis & Allies 1942 2nd Edition
ahh but see if transports can defend themselves, then they would not be easy pickings, but on the other hand I do not believe a transport should be able to take out a ship or such only fighters, like subs only take out naval units, transports should only be able to take out fighters (unless a Q ship).

For those of you who say ships protect transports, guess you never heard of the Q Ships ?

RE: Show off your War room/Tableposted in General Discussion
It worked!
Wait until you see Young Grasshopper’s setup. It’s pretty darn cool.
Saw it, and mightily impressed, but i’m curious how does one get such a large size map? or how does one make one?

RE: Should I as the axis kill Britain, America, or Russia first?posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
going by the original game, Russia is the Target, they are on the landmass with germany, Great Britain is not a major threat early on and the US is more geared towards the Pacific, meanwhile, taking out Russia allows Germany to concentrate on Great Britain and Japan on the US, as the Axis player my objective is to remove the Allies from the main continent, while as the Allies, my objective is to pound Germany with everything (Russia on the eastern front, and GB and US kicking Germany out of Africa and Japan out of Asia) while using the US’s naval forces and air forces to deal with Japan along with GB’s air forces.
