I have posted the savefiles, provided screenshots, and summarized the unit/dice situation in text also. The choice of losses was made and confirmed and confirmed again despite warnings to select carefully;’ more dice were rolled. The loss decision was a major blunder, but that happens quite frequently in TripleA matches. I allow unlimited edits or changes of decisions prior to dice rolls, but not afterwards. This is the norm in League matches. I am going to claim this as a W.
@GeneralDisarray, I have had enough prior tournament successes and will have a busy remainder of the year. Go ahead and take my spot in the OOB playoff bracket and play Round 2 against @gamerman01 .

@gamerman01 There was no retreat or submersion of my units in this battle. This was a suicide mission for the American forces and there was never any intention to retreat as I needed every possible hit to allow the UK and ANZAC to follow up in their turn 17 attacks. My subs fought until TripleA ended the battle since there were no remaining ship units, just planes that could not strike back. I asked GeneralDisarray to confirm his OOL for turn 2 and he confirmed that the destroyers should all be lost before I start taking his carriers and planes.
@GeneralDissaray, I gave you up to 72h to realize your blunder which is more than anyone else would have provided in a Playoff game. keep the planes and ac till last. I dislike the game ending in an OOL blunder, and asked you to be very careful in your selection as this was going to be a very close series of fights and the decisions were tactically as complex as I have ever seen in a match.

I did as instructed, which is why I triple checked you really wanted that order of loss. Call it a game, or keep playing?

“best outcome of AC and plane and tac units left without falling into the water if you retreat” That would be 6 destroyers, 2 cruisers, 1 tac, and 1 fighter (10 losses total). Please confirm, modify, or request additional time. If I don’t get an answer, I will proceed with the decision tomorrow.

Let me know if you still have challenges seeing the remaining units in this fight.

savefile again.
Americans lost 6 carriers, 7 destroyers, and tipped 1 Battleship for the Americans.
The Japanese have lost 20 subs and tipped 1 carrier, plus 10 more hits tbdRemaining units:
Americans: 2 destroyers, 19 subs, 1 cruiser, 1 damaged battleship, 12 fighters, 3 bombers
Japanese: 2 transports, 8 carriers, 1 tipped carrier, 6 destroyers, 2 cruisers, 9 tacs, 9 fighters.
Unfortunately the decision for losses is not straightforward and I will need you to make the choice.

@GeneralDisarray five hits from my subs, plus 10 more from my other units. I already took 5 subs and need 10 more

also one tipped carrier for an edit later on.

you don’t have a battleship. I will tip 1 carrier and take 7 subs. You can change that after I roll for the rest of the dice.
I didn’t properly save that battle mid-rolls and you will see it re-rolled that Allied attack with 7 hits instead of the actual 8. I will tip one more carrier at the end (assuming you still have a healthy one left), or go to rolling on the Forum if we actually get to a point where you have no more healthy carriers and it will affect the dice roles.
Let me proceed onto the second part of the USA attack turn 1.

@GeneralDisarray sorry, that is still a bit ambiguous. Could you be 100% specific as I don’t want to do something incorrect on such an important turn.

Congrats farmboy! You are indeed one of the strongest players in the world. Your moves were nearly flawless. I will have to study the game to see if there are any minor weaknesses.

@Cornwallis if the Allies don’t have a major bid in the Pacific theater, J1 is standard. It gives such a huge advantage to be able to take islands before the Americans have any support in the region. In most League OOB matches with 50+ PU bids, the Allies will get an extra inf in Yunnan plus two more Russian fighters that provide enough support to hold that territory on J1. Sometimes the Allies can stack Yunnan with so many forces it can be retained even on J2. Hence, strategies are shifting to delay Japanese declaration of war until later in the game.
The United States need enough fleet so that the combined navy can sit off the coast of Australia without fear of being sunk, and have a potential move towards the coast of Japan to prevent that Axis power from crushing India for an extra few turns.

Congrats Farmboy! Another year of dominance in the playoffs. I was very impressed with your first two turns as the Allies in the west. I will have to study your perfectly-executed strategy against a top opponent.

@AndrewAAGamer about a 30% chance to have had that 14+ unit-remaining win in the massive battle. The stats in battlecalc are often deceptive.
You always play exciting games! Love watching this playoff match.

@Cornwallis I play mostly OOB with Bid now. The general gameplay involves Germany slowly advancing on Moscow and capturing it around G10-G14 while making it costly for the Allies to have a strong foothold in Western Europe. Meanwhile China gets enough support in the bid to prevent the fall of India for quite a while.
The United States spends the first turn of income in the Pacific but then shifts towards Germany to allow an eventual invasion of W Europe or Scandinavia.
You should look through more League matches of top players like Andrew or Farmboy to get battle-tested strategies that can win even with +50 bids for the Allies. Small details make a huge difference when you are facing a master who can battlecalc all scenarios and find minor tactical flaws. One extra fighter can make a huge difference in the expected outcome of a battle.
