      @madscientist:

However, if the german 8 inf are placed on UKR, you can strafe them with everything Russia has in range and then retreat to Karelia (leaving 1 Rus. inf in Caucasus). This makes it impossible for Germany to take Karelia on turn 1 unless the use all their planes leaving UK with enough of a navy to take Karelia back on the second turn or do other damage like that.

This is 1 defense that wont work and will lose for the allies most of the time. The only way to go if you want to stay in Len is making no land attacks in Europe. This is already pretty risky. If you do attack chances for allied succes will go down, and attacking Ukr is one of the worst options.

The Russians might opt for attacking Fin w/3 inf, 3 arm, 1 ftr and clearing the BAL sz w/sub, trn, ftr. Picket Len w/1 inf, move aa out of Len and buy 3 inf, 3 arm. All eastern units rush to Mos, and setup for a counter attack on Len. This is quite risky as well, b/c the Japs can send air support to Len after Germany took Len on G1 (ftr Man, ftr Bur, bmb Jap).

      ?

Um, no. Can’t speak for SUD but I was not talking about Germany’s northern transport. I was speaking of the Geman transport in the South East Med Sea Zone. You know, the one doing the transporting of troops to Africa. The vital one. The pain in the ass. Oops. Sorry, CC, hope ass was censored

Um, no. I believe or atleast I have always played that the UK sub starts in the EMed SZ. I can’t imagine any UK player wanting it anywhere else but maybe I’m just not imaginative enough.

Geze, I believe - depending on circumstances - that Russia is perfectly capable of handling itself in the first 2 rounds. Anything Germany can throw against 19+ INF and 2 FTRs G1 and 27+, 2 FTRs G2 seems to me to doom Germany to an early Keg Stand (hosue rules for losing - actually those are the house rules for any type of punishment, we’re what you would call “mature”. No, wait, that’s “Immature”, sorry) I digress.

It would be something to think on or get a second opinion from your partners but I might attack that EMED TRN, that’s the one in the South East Sea Zone for those of you keeping score at home  , and I think getting Germany out of Africa before they even have a chance is a pretty powerful blow, especially so early. Well worth making the Ruskies a little nervous.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have a keg stand to do - I forgot to take out the garbage.

In The Zone last night I saw someone with instructions on playing without a CD. It looked like you needed two programs - one that converted your CD into a file on your hard drive, and then another that run it as a ‘virtual CD’. I wrote the info down but don’t have it with me right now. I will try it tonight and let you know if it works.

True. How 'bout this, for every neutral country worth a damn, it generates 2 IPC but cost 6 IPC (so you still to wait three turns to equal out the income) and with at least 2 inf (or a combination of ARM) to invade. And for every “worthless” country (ex. Afgan, ect.) it cost 3 IPC to invade with at least 1 inf and generates 1 IPC. Of course you still have “heavies” like Saudi Arabia, but I’ll include them into the 2 IPC bracket for now. :)

Of course we can never forget “One Eye” Saburo Sakai. He managed to go up against the best-trained pilots of all time and survive. Outnumbered and outgunned by Wildcats, Hellcats, and Corsairs, he still managed to rack 64 kills (though the Japanese military did not credit individual pilots with victory claims). Plus, Sakai was a man of character.

Ah, the old fashion black and white Simcity on the computer, that sure brings back memories. I was never really good at that game – I constantly outspent myself even with hefty taxes. I guess Risk 2 is next on the list of things I sure check out hehe. I’m still waiting for Axis and Allies with simultaneous play, but for the time being, I’ll have to stick with using to Axis & Allies with two boards to get any real feeling of surprise.

I’ve discovered that it also depends on the browser you’re using. I really don’t like the font that IE tends to use but Netscape has a nice legible times new roman type font.

I know. Those wool socks are really well done. Keep you warm all winter. Plus I had a leather army jacket for 5+ years. Really good quality and not much wear and tear. My father also has an Army watch (and this is standard issue!) for 30+ years and it never broke. Only have to replace the battery every 5 years or so. If there one thing I’m really proud of when it comes to “Made in the USA,” it has to be the military.

Ah, forgot the “additionally” clause. Overall, this seems pretty sound. When I play Russia, usually I focus too much on Germany and sometimes forget how quickly the Japanese can creep up in my back door. On average, I may shift 2 inf now to Nov, and I’m sure another 4 would help me out without jeopardizing my Eastern Europe Operations. However, what I like about Russia is accessibility. Even if I forget to place 4 inf. in Russia early on, I can do so later due to fact that Nov is only one space away, making supply lines a minimal concern.

Cystic Crypt is exactly right on his observation. For this reason alone, to this day I will never buy bombers – Axis or Allies. With bombers, you are risking too much. I, being a strict pessimist when playing A&A, will always believe that everything that can possibly go wrong will. As chessmaster Savielly Grigorievitch commented on the game’s opening position, “The mistakes are all waiting to be made.”

Now say I buy bombers and on subsequent raids, I roll consecutive 6’s. Guess I’m the hero, the greatest since Air Marshall Brig. Gen. Ira Eaker, commander of the Eight Bomber Command. But what happens if the AA guns roll 1’s? What if this happens? Now, I have to kick myself in the back as I poured 15 IPCs down the drain. And since it takes at least 3 runs (even if I rolled 6’s) before I can make good on my investment, those are three turns in which AA guns are free to score hits. In addition to being a pessimist, I am also a control freak. On SBR’s I have no real control on the outcome of the battle. With inf and ARM, I can at least dictate when and where to hit, as well as when to retreat. The sheer suspense in SBR is already enough to kill me many times over.

I would much rather do more with less, which is the prevailing thought of the NASA space program. This means I buy 5 infantry instead of 1 bomber. So incase something goes wrong, which it usually does for me, I don’t crack all of my eggs in one basket.

“Only the spirit of attack, born in a brave heart, will bring success to any fighter aircraft, no matter how highly developed it may be.” - Aldolf Galland
“The create? The create matters not. It is the man who pilots the create that truely counts” -
