      I voted yes of course. it was on time they did something about the KGF strategy. Now we have both this and the natinal Objectives, it will be sufficient.

    • RE: 6 IPC Tanks and other unit costs

      Well, there is a sort of timelimit, because your allies will die while your slow army advances with the steps of a mouse…… and meanwhile the brits and americans are building up in the atlantic… :)

      I will also say I’m glad the price of tanks is 6 now. With the new TAC unit, the mec. inf unit for 4IPC, and a larger map giving fast movement expanded value, the tank has to cost 6. Calculating clean combat odds vs unit costs makes little sense here, infantry must be the best buy there, if you have it combined with some firepower… Tanks will be worthwhile, building only tanks will not anymore…

    • RE: Carriers

      You all forget an important point about why the carriers really should cost 18. Remember that airports are introduced, making floating and mobile airports even more powerful and useful. Do you want to build a static airport, or are the money better invested in a floating one? All the choices we get. :)

      And one more thing; I hope and think indeed the Germany 1st turn carrier build isn’t a good idea anymore……

      Andy Dandy, I indeed took it as ships move 3 sz if that 1st sz has a port. Maybe Kreig could clear this up.

      Yup, that’s right.

      So when a fleet stands at sea in a seazone next to a coast with a port, it is at port? I don’t like this rule if it means you can move from California to Midway in one turn on this map. One might wonder what the point is with the extra sea zones.

      @Adlertag:

      @WILD:

      PS: It would also be nice if ports offered some kind of protection for your ships.

      Why ? A fleet in port are sittin ducks. remember Port Harbour, the French fleet at Oran and Dakar, the Italian fleet at Taranto, they were all sittin ducks, got no protection from the port

      You get AA gun protection with classical AA gun rules. I think it’s fair enough.

      NB! I don’t think or hope the +1 movement from ports means you can move one more square then in the original games, but rather simulate a game without the port rule. The +1 is counting with the first sea sone from the port. This means you can move a fleet from California to the Hawaii sea zone, but not from California to the Midway sea zone in one turn.

      People have to remember that sea transport needs to take longer now when land movement takes longer as well (more provinces). This game will have quite another time scale then previous games and making the pacific larger is good for this game.

      One example: The US will have to place it’s fleet in Hawaii if she wants some fast action when she enters the war. A fleet in San Diego instead will cost you valuable turns.

    • RE: Carriers

      I don’t think the superstack tactics will work as well anymore anyways due to the extra seazones and larger map. Guess you still will have a main fleet, but you’ll also need smaller fleet groups for efficiant island jumping, coastal invasions and convoy raiding.

      But still some good thoughts there….

      @Brain:

      Those sound like good rules to me.

      Yep, me too. I hope you’ll be able to build ports and airports as well, whereever you’d like to build them in your controlled territories. Ports must be in territories with a coast of course.

      I really look forward to see these possibilities/mechanics in the game. With all the extra seazones you’ll really have to think longer ahead now, and perhaps not use just one superstack of ships. Controlling islands with airfields and ports will be very vital for sucsess in the pacific I guess.

    • RE: Pacific 1940 - Limited Edition or not?

      Guess i have to pre-order now at once from the USA. I don’t trust AH to send enough copies of it to Norway. ;) I have to be 100% certain to have both the Pacific and Europe version by the next summer.

      No norwegian game sites have the Pacific game listed yet either, so I don’t take any chances. These games are worth extra custom fees and shipping costs indeed.

      @Krieghund:

      Welcome, Andy_Dandy!  I’m glad you’re enjoying the game.

      Thanx for the welcome, I’m a long time fan of the Axis and Allies games. These new 1940 games are a dream coming true. I wonder if you know; are these new games a limited version like the AA50? I live in Norway, and my local gamestore only had 2 versions of AA50. If the 1940 games are limited in numbers I really have to pre-order them from the US now asap…. These games can’t be missed :D

      Edit: Didn’t see a new thread was opened about this topic now. Never mind my question… ;)

      @Brain:

      Is there some kind of mysterious force that helps ships move faster when they are leaving port? Am I missing something here?

      Nope, I guess it’s because when you’re at port you start your move at “land”. You will end up the same place you could when we had no ports and all ships starting at sea….

      @Funcioneta:

      I hope they make a better playtesting than later 2 games (AA50 and AA42), but I doubt. They are the same company that makes that money sink called Magic the Gathering

      What are you talking about. I find the AA50 edt. played in 1941 with national objectives the most balanced version of AA ever made, and that with even more territories then ever.

      And one more thing, it should be balanced a little bit in favour of the allies, I like the game to be an extra challenge for the axis, as it was in real life…. at least in the long run.

      Nice cover, and a dream of an A&A game it seems. I want to buy it as soon as possible. I hope Larry ships alot of these goodies to Norway.
