I felt good about the Europe side. My problem was my original plan was to split China and India at Yunnan and your move to DOW on UK2 totally eliminated that plan.

My revised plan was to go for India but as you said I quickly realized that meant the US was going to go wild. That forced me to take the 72% battle in Belarus that normally I would have ignored. Unfortunately, I went 4 units under average which put me in a position of status quo. I wasn’t behind, but I also wasn’t ahead, which was not good since I was in trouble in the Pacific.

Thus, when you accidentally gave me an 85% battle to knock out Yunnan I couldn’t pass up that opportunity. Unfortunately, for me, you won instead of me and given the rest of the board position the game as over.

Looking at the game via a debrief perspective, your plan was better than my plan. Because of that I was forced to take battles that relied on fair dice to get back into the game. With your mistake in Yunnan I easily could have got back into the game. But, the dice didn’t cooperate, which is why I always try to have a plan that doesn’t depend on fair dice.

Thanks again for the game. As always you learn more from losing than from winning. :)

I wanted to try something different and see if the Japanese could help the Germans take Moscow fast enough to make up for the Yunnan Stack. Obviously, it is not going to work. Can’t figure out how to combat that Yunnan Stack.

I was actually still alert that Moscow would fall within the next 3 turns. Your pressure was high, and I did not consider this game won yet. Loosing Moscow would have made this very complicated for me.
I agree that china was off the leash and unstoppable. There was little chance for Japan to regain the upper hand on the mainland. But then, I think we have seen in several games that j can survive, and can even be aggressive towards India / islands without china. I was not expecting that your goal is to regain china, I feared that your goal is to survive snd help Germany with their victory.

Thank you for the game! I would agree, especially with your overall strategy to put tremendous pressure on Europe, that this error makes winning the game for the Allies virtually impossible.

You made me think very hard with your strategy. You did a great job of putting massive pressure on Europe - so much that I doubt Germany would ever have been able to take Moscow without the error.

@AndrewAAGamer It was a good game. I was interested to see how the Russian /Chinese defense played out. I was able to force the Russian and Chinese back, but I never got any traction in Moscow.

Greece was a problem, and perhaps, I should have just ignored it until I built more ground forces in the area. However, the bid for Russia supplemented them with enough units that I never had an advantage there regardless of the Greece fiasco. In fact, I felt you had pulled back too quickly and let the Germans gain some territory that could have been more dearly fought over, which counteracted the early loss of material in Greece.

But that leads to my main “learning point” of this game, a winning strategy for the Allies is just to build up and defend. You never really fought for anything in the Europe side, just built up forces in Normandy and eventually spilled over to Holland. More dramatically, this was followed in the Pacific side, you never even threatened for the DEI or even took back Aleutians until I went for India on T9. Just build carriers and fighters and some transports that just stayed as a single force.

Normally, I would have thought that was a losing strat against Japan, but because China was so strong, I never established my hegemony over Asia. Sure, at the end, Japan was a land force, but it didn’t matter because the IJN was unable to defend against the US fleet. From T6-T14, the Japanese never spent less than 19 IPCs on land forces except 2 turns, and spent more than 1/3 of the iPCs on land forces + transports on over half the turns. Yet, did not remove the Chinese from the map.

Equally surprising strat was to ignore Europe with the US for so long. Just buying a small fleet to hold Normandy and 3 inf each turn. I would have thought the Germans would have made more progress since they had a small West force to counter with. But Russia wasn’t falling so nope.

The bottomline is I don’t see how to defeat this strategy with this bid. There was nowhere to attack at advantage. The NO for Russia does not seem to be stoppable. I tried a couple of times to get the Japanese over but without severely dispersing my forces, that was not going to happen. So Russia will hold, and then it’s just build and wait for the remaining forces.

Kinda demoralized right now, so I’ll go beat up on some other competition and maybe try again after the scars have healed.

Thank you for a really tough game. After your great move with Italy early on and the drubbing of the minor Allied fleet in SZ91 I felt the Allies were behind for 80% of the game.

Sinking the IJN got the Allies back into the game but I felt you were still ahead, especially with your well planned defense of Europe. I felt like the Allies couldn’t land and hold anywhere to make inroads against Germany.

Ironically, your good move keeping the Allies from sacking Rome cost you as after the debacle of ANZAC knocking out the Japanese air force Tokyo was suddenly an option and the Allied fleet was in a perfect position to take advantage of that where otherwise they would have been in the Med.

Fortunate circumstance for me.

Thank you! I’ll keep this advice in mind (and I’ll use this game to see how to defend against a Green Skies strategy as the Axis).

I definitely made some huge mistakes but you flawlessly capitalized on them. It is always an honor to play someone at your talent level; you have greatly improved my skill level over the years. Maybe I will be more careful in the 2025 playoffs… until then best of luck.

Plus, it’s just difficult to adapt. I think PtV is a great mode on paper, but I when I played it I kept forgetting the rules, because I was so used to BM
