      Thank you for a really tough game. After your great move with Italy early on and the drubbing of the minor Allied fleet in SZ91 I felt the Allies were behind for 80% of the game.

      Sinking the IJN got the Allies back into the game but I felt you were still ahead, especially with your well planned defense of Europe. I felt like the Allies couldn’t land and hold anywhere to make inroads against Germany.

      Ironically, your good move keeping the Allies from sacking Rome cost you as after the debacle of ANZAC knocking out the Japanese air force Tokyo was suddenly an option and the Allied fleet was in a perfect position to take advantage of that where otherwise they would have been in the Med.

      Fortunate circumstance for me.

      Actually, it was a matter of working backwards.

      Infantry and Mechanized Infantry are the exact same. Therefore, the extra $1 for Mechanized Infantry had to be for Mobility only and that gave me the cost for one additional movement point for both Mechanized Infantry and Armor.

      One thing that I took into consideration was that Infantry had to be the best Buy due to their amazing defensive capability while Armor, while very necessary, was probably the most expensive unit available and had to match its cost exactly. In other words, Armor must be priced just right as people still Buy it but know it is expensive so it is bought in limited quantities.

      Knowing that, the next step was to determine Firepower Cost. After examining the numbers, and trying various amounts, it became clear, for Land Units, each Firepower Pip was worth $0.5.

      Firepower with Mobility included:

      • Infantry $1.5
      • Mechanized Infantry $2.5
      • Artillery $2.0
      • Armor $4.0

      Seeing that Armor only needed a Hit Point cost added for completion that gave me $2.0 per Hit Point. Which fit in perfectly with the other units.

      Firepower with Mobility and Hit Point included:

      • Infantry $3.5
      • Mechanized Infantry $4.5
      • Artillery $4.0
      • Armor $6.0

      The only thing left to add was Special Attributes. Artillery adding 1 Pip to infantry was obviously worth $0.5 and that finished things off.

      I don’t think the Tournament Rules are meant to balance out the game. They are meant to shorten the game so it completes in a specified timeframe which is necessary for a weekend tournament…

      The goal of the Project Manager and Playtesters was to create, as much as possible, a balanced game. Therefore, in an ideal world, both sides are fighting tooth and nail to only obtain a Minor Victory.

      We envisioned the only time either side would get a Total Victory was if the skill level of the opposing players was vastly different OR if one side rolled poorly and the other side rolled great. In other words, Total Victories should be rare.

      Major Victories would happen more often than Total, due to the same reasons as above but not to the same degree, but the majority of the games should end in Minor Victories. That is intentional and if that is what you are experiencing then all is going according to plan.

      If one side had an easier path to victory than the other then the game would need a Bid. Our goal was to make both sides equally capable of victory so no Bid would be required to balance the game. Players should be happy to take either side as both sides have the same chance of winning.

      Definitely not allowed. While multiple powers can defend together in the same square only the active power’s pieces are usable during the active Player’s Turn.

      In essence, the British destroyer is completely ignored.

      Having miniatures was a gigantic step forward for Wargames versus the old cardboard squares. Add in big territories for movement and simple combat rules and it’s not hard to figure out why Axis & Allies became a fan favorite.
