You’ll find that discussed in the forums as"Neutral crush" strategy.I’m reluctant to try it b/c giving my opponent free stacks of infantry and key positions is not in my dna.

RE: Two rules questionsposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Regarding attacking/defending subs, don’t want to complicate things, but,if attacker has no destroyer the defennding player can choose to keep some or all of his subs hidden.Might be better to use them in counter-attack.

I just don’t imagine the american public getting all excited because japan lands troops in indonesia in 1940(an election year I think)

West Canada naval base.posted in House Rules
I’m biased since I live in wcanada.Since about 1875 there has been a naval base in wcanada. Its not huge but I’d bet in ww2,it was equivalent to bases in NewZealand,Africa,Australia.I’m wondering what effect it would have on game if uk started with a base in wcanada?
Esquimalt naval base its called. -
A Soviet presence.posted in House Rules
I think this game needs a russian presence and the global rules section gives us a starting point.
If you only have pacific set use anzac pcs to represent russian far east army.
Place 18 inf 2 aaa as per global set up.
All mongolia rules in effect.Russia will not ever invade mongolia. After anzac turn Russia rolls D6
1,2 moscow dow on japan, not required to attack. If aready at war with japan russia gets 5ipc to spend
3,4,5 no dow: russia may move units inside russia and/or choose to remove 1/2 of his units (rounded down)
to save moscow.
6 no dow:Remove 1/2 russian units to save moscow.Orders from Stalin.
Removing units increases chance that moscow will hold off euro-axis.Starting rd5 roll D6 to determine if moscow falls.Russia adds 1 his die roll if troops have been removed in previous rounds. However,If at least 6 russian territories are controlled by japan, subtract 1.
1,2,3 moscow falls. For the remainder of the game, subtract 10ipc from usa bonus (more resources required on europe side}disregard if japan has units in any north america territory.
4,5 battle rages on.Roll again next rd.
6,7 Moscow saved, beginning next round russia rolls 3D6 /rd to determine how many ipcs he may spend on pacific map.Russin units are always placed on timguska or evenkiyskiy.Bases or facilities can be built wherever normally legal. When I add russia,I replaces the 1 time 30ipc bonus that usa gets when 1st at war.

RE: Cruiser add onposted in House Rules
A unique ability that I’d like to see cruisers have is to be able to use any remaining movement after combat(like air craft)or an ability to try to take out a blocking dd.

I can bombard you with my navy even if there is no amphibious attack.

Since Iraq is no longer neutral, can Italys tank pass through Iraq to attack Persia? Can any power fly over for combat or non-combat?
I can see this being an issue around spain too.Allies attack spain, but don’t defeat their standing army.Axis wants to drive mechs and tanks from SFrance>Gibraltor or fly aircraft over. -

When resolving combat,if I 1st knock out your airbase then I prevent you from scrambling against my sz attack in the same turn.

As soon as UK attacked iraq its no longer neutral true?

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Here’s my question.
UK strafes neutral iraq from persia and transjord and retreats to transjord. 1 unactivated inf remains in iraq. Now its Italys turn and he has 1 tank 1 inf in syria. He wants to attack transjord with syria forces and amphibious troops from elsewhere. Can he activate iraq by moving his syria tank through iraq?
If so,can the iraq inf join this attack on tranjord?
If not, could the iraq inf be activated by Italian troops retreating back into iraq?I’m sure the amphibious troops can’t retreat. -
Unit Relocation at set-up for Globalposted in House Rules
So this is what I tried in place of bids.
Each power,in the same order as play so Germany 1st France last, gets to relocate 1 starting unit (with the exception of ICs and capital ships)to a place only where they already have another starting unit.
For example:Russia can start a tank in amur instead of moscow.
Germany starts cruiser in sz113.
Italy moves dd from sz96 to 97
Us puts a 2nd fig in Phillipines
I think its gives allies a better chance b/c they start with more units out of position and they would ,for the most part, make their choices after axis. -
RE: Grasshopper's Production & Bombing Systemposted in House Rules
So if, as germany, after I capture Moscow which had 2 damaged ICs and 2 good ICs.Is the 1 IC that remains after capture a good 1 or a damaged one?
I can imagine Russia leaving a "scorched earth"or Germany being able to find enough infastructure for an operational minor IC remaining. -
RE: Italy, Italy, Italy???!!!posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
protect your airforce and plan on buying destroyers to protect yourself from allied subs.Given a choice,I recommend going after middle east over afrika.

RE: Army Value Spreadsheet - A&A Global 1940posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
It’s either full of errors or I don’t get it.For example you have Italys starting air ipc value of 113.Should be 32 for 2 fig+ 1 strat.

Who was the attacker? If Germany,I think the trn and fighter could retreat.

RE: FINLANDposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
From what I read,Soviet forces performed very poorly against the Finns. In a game it would be like adding 1 to all soviet combat die rolls for 1 round.
I’m sure Russia learned some tough lessons that served them well after barbarossa.
