Have Italy bomb the airbase just before Germany attempts invasion.

    • RE: Italy plays before UK

Historically Italy declares war on France after Dunkirk but before Paris falls.A Mussellini blunder IMO.Had she stayed neutral and been attacked by UK (eg. Taranto raid) an outraged public would’ve maybe supported the war effort. In A&A this is represented as some sort of income bonus.Of course a neutral Italy would’nt allow German units to land on their airbase or pass through N.Italy while on their way to S.France.

maybe you should’ve retreated after the 1st round of combat. An AB on Northern Territory would be handy.

    • RE: Italy Politics House Rule G40

well this is interesting.Global game is supposed to start after Dunkirk evacuation jun 4 1940 and before paris falls jun14.Historically,Italy joins war jun 10,so arguably neutral at the beginning of a global game.So perhaps if Germany retreats from Paris G1 and has not landed air or passed through italy ,then Italy is still neutral UK1.
Is Uk allowed to start war with Italy and if so would a Taranto raid spark a similar outrage in Italy that Pearl Hbr sparked in USA?

    • RE: WW1 what if ?

Germany did in fact a quick knock out blow to France in 1870/71 and many of the German officers in 1914 had experience from that short war, so it is not strange they belived they could do it again.
I think Narvik makes an important point.Germany expected a quick war and free passage through Belgium.I recall reading the phrase"home before the leaves fall"
meaning if things more or less went according to plan,it would all be finished in a couple of months.I imagine the planners at the time would recall Napoleons 1812 invasion of Russia.
Thanks for all the responses gents

    • WW1 what if ?

So in Aug 1914 Germany mobilized for an attack on France through Belgium(the ill fated “Schefflin plan”),while keeping a small army in the east to defend against Russia. What if Germany had decided to attack east and defend its short western border instead? If no invasion of Belgium, would UK and later USA join war at all?Remember the spark for the war was  a  Serbia Austria-Hungary conflict.
I think Germany could’ve handed Russia a significant defeat and taken a lot of territory before winter 1914.As for the west I think Germany could’ve held back the French. As it went, Frances opening attacks on Alsace-Lorraine were repelled by Germanys reserve army while its main force was busting through Belgium.
I’d like to hear others thoughts on this.

    • RE: A Nonsensical Retreat Rule?

I 100% agree with retreat rule as it is.It’s a dynamic way to relocate slow moving units or consolidate a fleet. As an attacker you hope to take out all but 1 of the defending units. For the likely price of a few fodder units, you can better your position.

    • RE: Russia declaration of war

I think historically, between 1939 to 1941 it was’nt clear whose side Russia was on.France was offering to assist Finland in the winter war with bombers. Stalin certainly did’nt trust the allies during this time period.Dispite repeated warnings from just about everyone Stalin trusted Hitler until the morning of barbarossa. All that being said,as for A&A Global the only rule I’d tweak regarding Russian neutrality is the one where Germany still collects a peace bonus after Italy has declared war on Russia.

    • RE: Russia declaration of war

I know the game does’nt always follow history.Just thought I’d mention that Stalin had a pretty costly war with Finland winter 39/40 and annexed the neutral baltic states april 1940 and east poland 1939.Not exactly a neutral power IMO.

    • RE: Barbarossa in Europe only?

No one is mentioning what Italy is doing.Sending as many mech and tanks east to can-open ahead of German forces is popular.
Its good to battle the brits all over the med.Its more rewarding for Italys  income level. My mistake is trying to do both, and not succeeding at either before the American wave arrives in SZ 91.

    • RE: G1 Poland tac?

I like to split off 2 mech 1 tank and the hungary fighter for SFrance and I’m usually strafing Yugo.I want the factory to threaten G2 naval builds in the med
.I just wonder if top players consider it too risky sending the stuka to Paris? If it does’nt die to AA it must help preserve higher value ground units. Is it most common for France battle to take 3rounds of combat?Should be good for dishing out 2 hits .I know people have mathematically calculated these things.I don’t ever try to take both Sfrance &normandy on G1,just 1 or the other.
Rest of luftwaffe heads for 111 &110.

    • G1 Poland tac?

Where do you send the tac bomber that starts in Poland G1 assuming no G1 DOW on soviets?I’ve been sending it to Yugo and landing at rome.I wonder if people think its worth adding to France battle…risk of losing to an AA shot?

    • RE: The easiest thing Germany could have done to win the war.

“What if” the commander of the Bismark had not sent a radio transmission while the bulk of the Royal navy was franticly searching the atlantic for her?The HMS Hood and Prince of wales battleships had just been sunk and damaged badly. If Bismark escapes,I think Churchill  is under alot of pressure to get out of the war.Remember this all happens about 4 wks before barbarossa.

    • New Hebrides Is. Question

New Hebrides is a french island between NewZealand and Soloman Is.If Japan takes this when not at war with UK/Anzac/USA,does it have any political consequence?Thought it might be an interesting spot to threaten Anzac.
