RE: Is J3 Smart?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@SuperbattleshipYamato Bid or no bid, playing OOB,I almost always do J1.The only thing that would get me to delay to J3 is if Germany really wants to do Sealion. In that case the axis needs to keep USA out of the war.

RE: Why is surrender not an option in the original game?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@SuperbattleshipYamato So are you talking about a whole side surrendering,or an individual nation surrendering?Variants like BBR or BalancedMod use Vichy rules for France.1914 has the Russian revolution.Historically Italy surrendered in 1943.Could be house rules for anything.

@superbattleshipyamato America must’ve had a huge amount of money. You’d think they could’ve got Paris or Cairo.

@superbattleshipyamato said in Best infantry-heavy equipment ratio?:
the Soviets build all infantry,
Disagree.Russia needs a mix of ground units to project a counter-attack threat.

RE: Goose's Axis & Allies 1940 House Rules Threadposted in House Rules
@hengst This house rules forum is full of ideas. To avoid scripted games you need a varaiety ways to win or lose a game in a reasonable amount of time ,eg 8 to 12 rounds.BBR and 3G40 are rulesets that encourage you to win by achieving various victory objectives.(not just victory cities)
3G40 changes turn order, merges Anzac into UKPacific, and sticks pretty close to oob rules.BBR is more complex than oob and is real popular. Both are designed to play in 1 day and to be able to declare a winner. -
RE: Poll.Russia wants to leave Baltic Seaposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Disclaimer. It’s not really a poll because I did’nt set this up for tabulating votes.I just want to hear ideas about the pros and cons, from German and Russian sides,of the starting Russian navy coming out of the Baltic sea zones.

Poll.Russia wants to leave Baltic Seaposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
OK,so you are Germany and not yet at war with Russia.
It’s Rd 1 or 2.
Russia asks you to allow it’s fleet through Danish straights. Do you say yes or no and why or why not?
IMO, I say let them out.I want control of the baltic .If Russia wants to risk its airforce to get my navy,I’m ok with that. -
RE: The Algeria Snakeposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@cornwallis A guess it would be considered an axis counter strategy to “Gibastion”.Italy uses it’s fleet,2 loaded trannies, some air, plus bombards,to take Algeria on its 1st turn.
If all goes as planned ,Germany can hit sz 92 with all its air units G2.This gives Germany a legal spot to land fighters and tacs. It helps if Italy deals with the french in sz 93 too,so they don’t join up with the UK in sz 92.
Hope that explains it a bit.I just don’t know where the “SNAKE” name comes from. -

@newzealandnich Good to know he mentioned it.He created the ruleset so it’s his final call.I’ll have to watch the youtube video to satisfy my curiouscity.

RE: Question regarding Allies' African Victory Conditionposted in Young Grasshopper
@newzealandnich It seems to be a bit debatable.Worldatlas.com and others list Madagascar as a country of africa.Like Japan is part of asia etc.
I love YGs tournament rules.I’m certain he considers malta, cypris and transjordon as non-africa territory for the sake of UKEurope bonuses.
IMO I don’t think the allies should recieve something as important as an Africa VICTORY token if axis controls Madagascar. -

And that folks is why they were named “Flying Fortress”

RE: Strategic bombing raids and heavy bombersposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Interesting Question.I never play with tech, but reading the rules as printed,I would have to say Yes.
pg 41"When attacking, whether in a battle or a strategic bombing raid, roll 2 dice for each bomber and select the best result"
Pg 17 bombers and escorts are referred to as “attackers” in an air battle that precedes a strategic bombing raid.
What I learned here is heavy bombers defend the same as regular bombers. This may get clarified by Krieg or Panther. -
RE: A&A 1940 Global National Objective Card Deckposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@always-wanderer Looks nice but I hate to be the bearer of bad news.I think there is mistakes with Italys bonuses for Iraq and the 2 persias. They should be 2 ipcs for each(not 5 ipcs)

RE: Sealionposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@superbattleshipyamato My impression is if you send 32-36 land units at london plus air you ought to take london fairly easily. This will likely leave you thin on land units on your east front. You had better build a carrier or airbase in normandy G4{make sure some fighters survive sealion attack} to ptotect yout trannies.
So putting on my USSR hat,I see your G2 buy,I gear up to attack you and/or get aggressive with Japan.I’m guessing I could be hittig poland R4 with about 35inf/art+12 tanks/mech +air.I’m almost tempted to buy a navy to threaten everything in the baltic with transports.
What do you have Japan do with it’s massive fleet for 3 rounds?I don’t think you want them bringing the USA into the war early.Maybe you are hitting soviets hard in siberia. Not many ipcs in that. -
RE: Sealionposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
There is a name,(Scotch broth or something)for this sealion method. So some drawbacks may include,
#1 your transport fleet is vunerable in sz 111 after dropping off the 1st wave in scotland.
#2 If allies park a surface warship in sz 112 on non-combat,you can,t load your 2nd wave .I’m assuming your troops are coming from West germ or Norway…Maybe Italian air can deal with this .
#3 USA gets one more turn to build more units to destroy your fleet after you take london.BTW remember to take Eire from scotland .It takes away a possible landing spot.
Good luck and watch out for the USSR. -
RE: Can a single US dest block a whole Jap fleet in sz 25?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@nubnumber1 just like a fighter unit in A&A is meant to represent many aircraft, think of a destroyer unit representing a group (flotilla I think is the term) of destroyers.Military history has many examples of small, yet determined, forces delaying the progress of larger forces. eg 101st airborne in Bastogne dec 1944

RE: [Global 1940] One rule to balance it?posted in House Rules
@simon33 I really like Crocketts France 1st idea.Always seems to me that it’s too easy for germany to kill szs110+111+106? as well as taking Paris.Historically,Germany needed the luftwaffe to defeat France. In early june1940 France had just replaced their top commander and was not yet at war with Italy.
I would suggest Frances 1st turn be restricted to non-combat.For their 19ipcs ,I place a TT in sz 93 to start plus 12ipc to spend on units.Keep in mind, not being at war with Italy ,France can pass through or park in szs95,96,97. -

@superbattleshipyamato Land in greece with the inf and AAAgun from Malta.Make the axis player sweat bullets if they send any air units to attack greece.
