I think versions of A&A starting in 1942 begin before battle of midway and after German defeat at Moscow.Sort of April or May 1942.

@crockett36 April 1940 Germans are invading Norway, losiing destroyersand getting their best battleships damaged(Gnieseau&scharnhorst)Granted they do sink UK carrier glorious.
Also Italy is not in the war.Perhaps to be more historical,German cruiser should start in sz113 and a damaged battleship start in sz114. -
RE: A&A 1940 Global: Japanese invasion of Russia and Expeditionary Fleet to Europeposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@Classified_22 I don’t want to discourage you from trying novel strategies. They’re interesting and fun,but will likely be defeated by good players(I’m not including myself in that category)
With your G1 naval buy and depending on how battles went, the allies should be wary of a possible sealion threat.Watch to see what Russia buys and where they position their forces. If they decide to attack Japan, the 6 Mongolians will stay put.I guess your surprize move is using TTs to drop an army into northern Russia from sz 127.I reccommend using the units from Norway and Finland. If you take Leningrad you get the AB,NB,Minor fac+5 ipc bonus but that spot is not hard to get overland and safer to use baltic sea if using TTs.
Taking Archengal negates Russias 5ipc lend lease bonus.Nemetsia is worth 0,but so remote that it’s harder for Russia to contain you and close enough for it to be possible to bring over Japanese air from china.
I just want to say that I’ve made the mistake of splitting up my German army invading Russia.I lost all my slow movers because I underestimated the power of a lot of inf with just a few tanks and planes.
Let us know what you like to buy G2. -

@crockett36 I really do respect Captains position that extensive playtesting is needed before widespread adoption of new ideas.I often like the concept of throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks. Here are a few things about OOB set up that bug me.
1 France falls too easily.Germany should have to use luftwaffe to be certain of taking paris G1
2 Japan is too strong.21 starting aircraft is overwhelming.UK battleship starting in sz 37 is suppoed to represent the 2 ships Japan sunk there dec41,but of course,we are supposed to be starting 1940.J1 attack is too powerful OOB.
3 Like I mentioned, after invasion of norway Germanys battleships were damaged. No operational Bismark and Tirpitz until 41.
4 Agree that red amy was determined, tough and tenasious defending russia. However,as demonstated against Finland earlier in the war, they were horrible when attacking outside their borders.I say this because I don’t think the red army could easily take over eastern europe had an invasion of UK succeeded.
5 Like in other versions of A&A,I think it should be easier(less szs across the arctic or NB in scotland)to transport units to northern russia.
Well thats enough for now. -

@Panther Thanks for clarifying. It may be best not to even include a carrier with a guest fighter when attacking.

Have Italy bomb the airbase just before Germany attempts invasion.
