    • RE: A retreat question

      @ncscswitch:

      The combat WAS declared… the loaded TRN entered a contested SZ (SZ15) in COMBAT MOVEMENT.  So, once the TRN entered a combat zone, it was restricted to COMBAT movement and COMBAT unloading.  You cannot retreat from the SZ15 combat and unload to Libya or Southern, since that would ahve the TRN moving in both combat and non-combat movement, which is an explicit rule violation.

      but from what you said earlier before that i can offload the units only to combat

      i meant you said i can retreat to Black Sea( assuming that my units came from there ) and attack Caucaus with that same tra that was in SZ 15

      but i think it cant be done so it confused me

      @ncscswitch:

      No, they cannot.  The TRN already engaged in combat, and unless doing an amphib (a landing into Combat) a TRN may not engage in combat AND non-combat movement n the same turn (offloading to friendly territory is a non-combat move)

      but how can the tra( and 1 inf, 1 art together with it ) be ingaged in a combat i havend previously declared

      i think its against the rules then

    • A retreat question

      situation is like this

      Germany attacks  UK destroyer in East Med
      Germany attacks with 1 tra ( loaded with 1 inf, 1 art from Southern Europe ) and with 1 bat

      in the first round of combat Germany doesnt score, and UK scores a hit

      Germany retreats to Central Med

      my question is
      can Germany now unload their units from the tra( 1 inf, 1 art ) to either Southern Europe, either Libya

    • RE: Low Luck Dice

      @ncscswitch:

      GOOD players can adapt, unless the dice go completely rancid (two back to back force decimations in Ukraine on R1 and G1 comes to mind…)   :wink:

      even if its ransid, even if you loose that game,  you still had a great chance to improve your play, with situation that is more difficult there is a bigger chance of improving the play since you have to pull out some new solutions or simply outsmart your opponent :wink:

      i agree with you folk, low luck isnt that good as it seems, axis and allies isnt chess, its axis and allies :wink:

    • RE: Favorite Bids

      @ncscswitch:

      I think it has been pretty well established that if you bid over $9, you WILL get the Allies.

      Bids on this site (with no restriction to half saved as cash, and no restriction on number of units per territory) tend to be slightly lower than elsewhere (where $9 is pretty average).  But with and unrestricted bid, $9 IPC could add 3 INF to someplace like West Russia (has anyone ever run a sim of THAT to see how badly it messes up traditional R1 moves?), and thus is not very common.  $7 or $8 seems to be almost the default bids on this site (and $8 is almost the universal bid in League games).

      well, i would really like to see if we are goin to make it the average winning bid number in league games
      so from what you say it would be like 8.5 or slightly less

      i tried with a sub in SZ 8 against Jen in my first game against her, the sub is even better then the fig, since there is no des present

      but she has foreseen it and attacked Norway, so i had 1 fig less and couldn done the attack successfully anymore :wink:

      @NoMercy:

      if you ever got a 10 bid for fun you could always place a fgt on Norway and hit the UK BB, trn, Russian Sub with 1 german sub, 2 fgts, 1 bmb

      well Soviet player can attack Norway on its turn with
      3 inf, 1 ten, 2 fig
      so…

    • RE: Game statistics at Axisandallies.org

      @Perry:

      With so many games being played at Axisandallies.org, is there any statistics on the games?
      I am thinking stats like win ratio Axis/Allies, average bids  and  perhaps what turn the game ended in.

      So, is there any such statistics available?
      What more statistics would be interesting to see, except for the abovementioned stats?

      really good topic  Perry, agree with you if it could be done, it would be great  :wink:

      we can also add something like; Russian first turn attack, number of games in which enemy capital fell before the final turn, number of games in which both players lost their capital in the same game…

      but what you have mentioned is essential i think
      -so if we just decide what stats to use, and if people agree, after each league game the players can add their scores to the  Stats topic which woud be here in the League forum
      -we can help new players a lot with those stats and afcorse even the veterans and relatively new players( like me ) will pull benefits from it

      @ncscswitch:

      Nah.

      I often overlook things in these thread discussions.

      Also, I have been losing half of my games in the League, and I only have about a 66% win record overall.  There are folks who have better records than me, and who are better gamers than I am.

      but old Fox always pull out somethin, as my people like to say wounded lion is the most dangerous one
      i expect your great play in the tourn.

      @General:

      I like the idea of the 1st round russian build and landing the fighter in China, as well as blitzing FIC with the British forces and landing that fighter in China as well. I would still dump my 4 Russian troops from into Sinkiang from the surrounding zones and move all 6 Russian troops into Bury.

      I’d also use the UK Transport off the coast of India to grab the extra troop from Trans-Jordan and move it into India along with the troop from Persia, then build a factory there.  I’d also blitz the Japanese transport off the coast of Kuang Tung with the British Destroyer and Carrier, as well as attack the Japanese sub in the Solomon isle sea zone with the sub and transport from Australia.

      That would leave Japan with a lot of problems on J1… do they try a risky attack on India to get the British Factory?  Do they Attack a much beefier China?  Do they hit the 6 Russian troops in Bury?  Do they still make a full assault on the Hawaiian fleet?  What do they do about the two British ships sitting off the coast of Kuang-Tung?

      Whatever the Japanese decide to do after that would largely determine what the US does the next round.  If the Japanese player doesn’t hunker down and build Navy, it could get nasty.  After the first turn, the Brits are only committed to 3 infantry per turn in Asia and can focus the rest of their resources on reinforcing the Russians against Germany.  Its the USA’s show in the Pacific from that point on.

      in that case if USSR/UK play their first turn that way
      against a solid Japanese player

      Hawaiian fleet will be destroyed
      Kwangtung fleet will be destroyed

      India will fall soon, not to mention Buryatia and China

      and Germany has opened hands against USSR, and strong attacking position on UK fleet in the Pacific

    • RE: PD & GD

      @Jennifer:

      I was suspended for arguing with a moderator on the public forums instead of privately.

      Anyway, I vote for A or C, assuming C means all the moderators will moderate as they see fit when needed and no one moderator will be ultimately responsible for the entire forum.  The reason i like that idea is because everyone one of us, including the moderators, have political opinions and I have not seen any one of us, including moderators, that can successfully suspend their political opinions and feelings and rule fairly.  So, if we have all the moderators, some conservative, some liberal, some Republican, some Democrat, some Libertarian, some Green, some Communist, some Nazi, whatever, each moderating as they see fit, perhaps the rulings will be less partisan and allow for the forum to regress from slander and name calling and progress toward intellectual debate.

      well what we ve all tryin to say here
      without insulting and provocations

      i think we are able to do that :wink:

      @Jennifer:

      Works for me, the level of idiocy on display in the PD has been astronomical for a long time.  I think the entire system should be scrapped, or a better leader be appointed, IMHO.  Someone who can be impartial and keep the forum from turning into an evil conservative/evil liberal slander fest.  One who doesn’t go throwing around big words and accusations of crimes would be stellar.

      well, i assume this has connections with your ban from PD, and speaking of that, why didnt we received any true explanation why you were suspended

      well i would like to( and many other people i think ) know why this happened, if you wish to tell us afcorse :)

      -maybe we need someone on PD who want post there, just beam the discussion in the right direction when he sees it flows in the wrong one
      and afcorse cutting all forms of rasicm and hatred towards other people, and all forms of pure insults in its root

      well, thats just one idea

      @djensen:

      There are a few options:

      (a) PD & GD never returns
      (b) PD & GD come back as normal
      © PD & GD become an moderated free-for-all
      (d) PD & GD become a new, separate website

      a and d dont seem good to me

      dont get c quite though, but i am for it, at least a slight change in the behaviour and the way we act of each of us

    • RE: Infantry as Superior Defensive Purchase – Still True in Revised?

      @Jennifer:

      The only way to play is to count on luck.

      Count on all your attacks being abysmal failures.  Count on your opponent’s attacks being stellar successes.  You do this and you will never be negatively surprised.

      thats why a good player should tend to avoid battles in which luck can play an important role, instead he would fight more ˝small battles˝in which the chances are strongly in his favour, but even if he losses it isnt such a disaster

      afcorse this is just an instruction, nothin more but i think its a good one

    • RE: Spanish A&AR Board

      @Conquistador:

      Hi! Im newbie in this forum but i have been reading for a long time. I have discouraged to post because I understand reading english well but I write it very badly. I’m from Barcelona and my languages are Spanish and Catalan   :-)

      I like A&A a lot but in Spain there are not much tradition of board games and my A&A is obtained in english and of import in a specialist shop.

      I have made a reprint of the board and I used a map made by Imperious Leader (thank to you for all your work!!!) but I also translated to Spanish all the locations and put the initial troops in it. I want to offer my version of the map to all the comunity and I also offer my help to Imperious Leader in any of the projects he always have in hands.

      http://rapidshare.com/files/44332530/Mapa_Final.pdf

      Update http://www.mediafire.com/?3glchfmykmo

      I also like to know if there are more people here that speaks Spanish.

      Thanks to all members for that great forum!  :lol:

      well i speak spanish a bit
      understand more than i can write tough but for basic communication there shouldn be biger problems i think, i was in Seville for a month so…

    • RE: Japanes IC on J1?

      @DarthMaximus:

      @vanzant316:

      Who is right?  Him or me?

      You are.

      I don’t like an IC on J1 for a few reasons.

      First (if all the bid went to Ger) and you only have 30 ipc to spend that is 1 IC and 1 trn and assuming UK takes out your trn in Sz 59 you only get 7 units to Asia on J2, whereas if you bought 3 trns you can get 8.

      Second, you sould be earning consideraby more than 32 ipc before you consider an IC since 32 ipc = 4 inf, 4 arm (4 trns).

      Third, you need trns to get inf off of your islands, then at least one to go take Aus, Nz, etc.

      Fourth, it somewhat protects you from a US naval strat, since you have more trns for fodder, but can still use them to move inf.

      Fifth (or 4B), I don’t think it is wise to commit to an IC before the US goes.
      I’ve played plenty of games where Japan commits to a Fic IC on J1 but has a sub par Pearl attack.
      Now (as the US), I’ll go Pac strat cause I know in about 4-5 turns Japan won’t be able to defend Sz 36, Sz 60, Fic and Japan.  Which means the Fic IC is eventually hung out to dry since Japan is more concerned about keeping Tokyo.

      I will often wait until J3.  My cut off is usually:
      if I have 36 IPC or more on J2, I’ll get the IC on J2,
      but if I have less than 36 on J2, I’ll get another tran and then get the IC on J3.

      sounds interesting, i see it similar J2 or J3 for the first IC
