    • RE: Single U Boats Convoy at 3 IPC's instead of 2

      @Axisplaya:

      @Gargantua:

      It is a regular tactic for me to interdict the crap out of the British,  I’ve played games (Long) where interdiction has cost in the hundreds of IPC’s by the end.

      One day, you’ll have to tell me how it’s done…
      In my games, Uk often has a destroyer (or more) in sz106 and a bunch of planes in Uk so that any try to suck UK IPC in sz 109 or 119 is due to fail.

      I will admit that I HATE BUYING DESTROYERS with ANY  Power.  The loss of IPC’s to chase Subs so I can build a fleet is just terrible.  They ONLY thing they do for 8 IPCs is destroy subs.  My last game I rolled terribly with my battleships defending Britian and with 4 subs were in SZ 109  and it took the USA on turn 6 to finally allow me to build a fleet.

      Yes 109 destroyer usually survives,  but its only one.  and I usually build a sub G1  and waste the remaining subs with aircraft to take out 109 when I play germany on G2.  IF he hasn’t withdrawn them to SZ 106 off of new Brunswick.

      NOTHING IS Worse than HAVING to buy destroyers.  Since they no longer bombard and can’t carry troops (Pacific 99 for japan)

    • Single U Boats Convoy at 3 IPC's instead of 2

      So I haven’t played with UBoats getting a Convoy at 3 IPCs instead of 2 IPCs.  Optional Rule.

      Does it dramatically change the game in Global?  Is it a good rule?  Or too much of an Axis Advantage?

      Most of the time I have to rebuild my sub forces and there really aren’t that many convoy spots to hit the Allies in…  SZ 119, 109, 106 and when the Allies take Norway or Normandy  125, 105.  (thanks for the map I got from the  forum I use it all the time to look at when I’m referencing posts)

      It seems that it could be a good advantage although a Minor one.

      Just looking for feedback on how it was best exploited in games where it was used.

    • RE: There is no quick win to Global

      @Gargantua:

      The game is ALL about the NO’s, and more specifically, the middle easy.

      Caucusus  + 5
      Volvograd  + 5
      Iraq + 2
      Persia + 2
      NW Persia + 2
      Egypt + 5 for German Land Unit ( +5 if you consider it’s part of larger 3 of 4 NO for Italy)

      21 IPC’s  JUST in NO’s.

      Save the Continental USA, There is no greater region on the board, than the middle east, that controls such a hefty amount of IPC’s.  (And we’re not even talking territory value).    It should be the primary Axis Target for ANYONE trying to strike the possibility of relative economic parity with the allies.

      Nothing else matters as much.  Unless each turn you are destroying swaths of your opponents medium stacks.

      Love this strat.  I have found that Italy can get the upper hand quickly in africa and take Cairo,  but can’t hold it.  UK london builds Mech and Tanks in South africa and can rebuild to retake it .  I head for the middle east and the caucuss with Italian forces.  Hopefully this weekend as the Axis I’ll get some of theese middle easy IPCs  and slam Russia with an Italian southern front and a main axis body in southern russia with the Nazi forces following Italian forces clearing the way.  In global you get that Ukraine minor IC  and I think its an advantage Axis because if we want it we can take it and Russia will have to pull back.  of course I want Germany to have the minor IC in the Ukraine.

      Wish me luck.  I’ll need it.  can’t make very many mistakes with the Axis.

      So far none of the three of us have won as the Axis.  Russia makes too much money early in the game and I have to whittle them down and bleed them dry before that UK USA Europe front opens up on me and sucks IPCs from the east back to Europe to defend my capitals.

      @Robson:

      @AllyAxis:

      Was thinking about this strategy for Alpha 2+ global.

      Has anyone done it successfully?

      Attack J1 soviet far east, amur, sibera.  build a Major in Manchuria and keep UK India /china relatively occupied .  pin down the US fleet with carrier builds and park fighters on it to keep the US building in the pacific.

      Get my Italians to clear Soviet buffer troops (usually one or two units between main armies)  and get the Italy Germany one two punch going.  I found that my mech tank builds were very effective and getting to Russia quickly to support.  but I may not build as many mechs this next game.  I was matching them tank for mech.  but that may only be necessary for clearing forces (IE forces trying to take rostov , caucus ) on the way to moscow.

      Can Japan really turn the tide tho in the All Axis on the Soviets strat?  thoughts anyone?

      Hi James,

      I did it once succesfully. First turn I took France, Normandy and Southern France with Germany, so Italy can move  the troops from Northern Italy to Yugoslavia which was already taken by the Germans Round 1. With this support and Japan invading Russia Turn 2 and building a major Factory in Korea Russia was down.
      The negative side is, that India and ANZAC had no problem to survive and invade the money islands.

      Greets RobbyWestSide

      Thanks Robby!  Glad to hear from you!  I have been taking Yugoslavia with the Italians,  but getting them into the eastern front faster is a nice key.  In my last Europe 1940 game I started with an Italian turn 2 attack and then reinforced with Germany.  Sounds like Cmdr Jennifer agrees with the Italians take, Germany re-inforces one two punch in the East.  I will definitely consider taking china from the rear,  but at the same time I need the 12 IPC’s to keep Japan viable if my resources and ground units aren’t going after the DEI  or UK india too hard.  excited to see this play out friday evening.  If my 2 other players show…  and I get to play the Axis which I should since its my turn.  I just have to watch out.  The Axis Cannot make major mistakes,  but the Allies can make plenty and still win the game.  Time is on the side of the Allies in the long term with the Awesomeness of the US’s 70+ IPC’s…

      Thanks for all the input everyone.

      @Cmdr:

      Italy attacks a territory, Germany lands planes and stacks it.  Japan blitzes 144 IPC and blitzes through the eastern territories and swings down into China from the rear.

      Thats what I was thinking about.  Thanks cmdr jennifer.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      Ok.  this friday I was going to try with the US to capture a potential major IC that I supsect Japan will build in Asia in our upcoming game.

      I know majors that are captured become minors in capitols.  but does it apply to all.  Just doublechecking  since it isn’t in a capitol.  Since US couldn’t build a major under A2+ rules in a non original territory is it possible for the US to capture one that isn’t in a Capitol built by an Axis power.

      It would be cool if you could.

    • RE: Alpha +1 Setup for pac40?

      Tried Alpha +1 for pacific only.  Still very very hard on the Allies.  I played Japan.  we’re both pretty good axis players…  Is there an Alpha 2 setup for Pacific?  We may play it stand alone a few more times,  but ultimately it appears broken and we probably will use it as an accessory for Global.

      My friend JJ has a few Allies Ideas to try and I wanted to try the build a Major IC in Manchuria by US strategy and roll out some AA guns.  But seriously… it still greatly favors the Axis/Japan.  OOB Anzac gets a Major and in the Alpha 1  Anzac gets a minor.  Seriously?  Its like kicking the allies in the face when they’re already face down in the mud.    also the elmination of US bombers is a kicker .

      Japan didn’t loose much  a few aircraft, and face a tougher China,  but it made little to no difference.  I built 2 minor IC’s by the 2nd turn and kicked the crap of of india.

      Granted the US player didn’t threaten Japan very much by turn 5,  but still its a huge huge uphill battle for the Allies and it really shouldn’t have been since Japan realistically never got close to India

      @Krieghund:

      The IPCs are collected in the Collect Income phase, like all other income.  The income increase is permanent in both games.

      THANKS!  I wanted it documented so if I got into any disputes it would be on the forum!

    • RE: Declaring War Questions

      My understanding of the Pacific 1940 rules is that when America is attacked (declared war upon by Japan via Japan attacking the UK)  the Income goes from 10 IPCs to 50 IPCs in the Western US.

      This means on their collect income phase they recieve the income boost?  or do they get the money immediately to spend .  Makes more sense that they would have to spend money on hand and then wait to collect the new 50 IPC western US boost on their collect income phase.

      Also , I understand it as the boost is permament.  but just want the blessing on that one too…  I might have a dispute as I played it wrong last game as a one time bonus (OK it was 5 am in the morning and I was tired tired and was playing it as a boost like A&A Europe 1940)

    • RE: How is the balance with the new Alpha 2 changes? Please give your view.

      Had have only 2 global games so far…  but both have been Allied victories.  I have yet to play the Axis as of yet.  both times Berlin fell because A. Demark was lightly defended once the Americans and British had fleets.    and B.  Berlin was lightly defended because all resources Axis resources were in Belgium, Normandy ,  and the eastern front.

      When I play the Axis I think I need to make sure I can counter any land invasion in force rather than straight coastal defend.

      I think that a Good Soviet Player will definitely defend through turn 4 when the US is in the war in Europe or at least has a fleet in SZ 109 or SZ 110.  I’m not sure that the balance with Japan is all that good since an experienced player can do so much damage with 19 planes in Alpha 2.  But since Japan is so far away from the Soviet union and the axis players waited till turn 4 or later to attack the soviet union,  my view of balance with the Japanese is tainted.

      Seems extremely hard to get the Axis to defeat the allies unless they roll extremley well whereas the Allies can roll badly again and again and still pull it out.  This could also be the relationship between IPC’s as the Allies definitely can waste units and rebuild especially the Americans.

      I really don’t like the NO’s for America so much.  its just too many NO’s for the US that are very difficult for the Axis to hit.  Maybe remove the Central /Western/Eastern 5 IPC NO .

      Again we’ve only done 2 Global games so far.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      I’ve gone back and forth on Subs attacks on captial ships with no destroyers present.

      No destroyers present…  subs get to hit without retaliation?

      I saw that on step two casulties go to the casualty strip.  step 4 all casualties return fire.

      however during step 3 it says all units are removed from the gameboard.  Which leads me to believe that subs hit (no destoryers present)  and then the ships go to the casualtiy board, but are removed from the game before step 4 takes place.  thus No sub retaliation shots without a destroyer.

      Wanted an official blessing of this one.  Thanks.

    • RE: UK India UK London control question.

      @Rorschach:

      Correct me if I’m wrong, but London/India is only separated for purchase/placement of units, not movement (combat or otherwise).

      Your London/India forces are free to mix once placed on the board as they all move at the same time.   Only incomes and purchases/initial placement of units are kept separate.

      This is sweet!!!

    • RE: UK India UK London control question.

      thanks everyone for the input.

      I found the global rules vauge on the whole india thing.  Perhaps Larry Harris needs to explain it better in rules releases.

      Seems odd that the US can liberate and take IPC’s if London has fallen on the Euro map, but can never ever gain if the UK india liberates africa since they invested the money to liberate it.    Maybe I’ll leave that one to a “House” rule among my players.

      No photo journal for the game I just played last weekend.  We have previously kept the moves with india and london seperate, but since that isn’t the case the game will actually go much faster now.  which is good news…

      I need to buy more UK india markers that are the Union Jack.  I’d actually prefer to use them for UK europe and the standard markers as UK india.  I found them on historicalboardgaming.com  as well as cool units.  I would love to use different forces for UK india and UK london especially since they move together so I can track my investments a bit closer for which theatre invested what in gaurding the Caucus.

    • UK India UK London control question.

      In my last 2 global games the forces of UK India and UK London get mixed with each other in the Middle East.

      I move a UK India force from India into the Middle east and after my Desert Rat UK London forces secure North Africa a few tanks make it to India.

      At what point do they change control from UK London to UK India and vise versa.  Coordinating the UK London Attacks with UK India infantry once they get into India would be a dream,  but when can they change their control and turn?

      I haven’t read any official ruling on when they can or if they can change order.  I also build figthers in Southern Africa and it takes 2-3 turns but I pipe them to Calcutta.

      Could a rule be that once they cross the board from Pacific to Europe map they change control?  Would that even make sense since it is UK India that can move into Persia and secure its Neutral forces?

      Input and feeback would be welcome!

      Thanks.

      There is a major IC in Paris. This isnt possible with A2 rules. Captured Major IC turn into a small one.

      Really.  I didn’t see that one in the rules I downloaded.   No Majors in non native territory can be built.  but France falls to a minor?  Didn’t see that one at all.

      Holy crap your right.  I guess it only mattered for France since Britian did not fall  or russia. Not sure if we placed that many forces there anyway.  Because the Germans did not build that many forces there throughout the game.  The italians moved troops in,  well maybe before berlin fell late in the game the Axis player on turn 9 may have built more forces there,  but largely he used the Italians to defend western Europe and built germans in West germany to defend Denmark.

      Ultimately I don’t think it impacted our game or its outcome,  but will note that for the future!!!

      why would japan have to attack russia I have won many times as germany without sealion and japanese help in barbarossa.

      Oh ,  and if you check out the early GNazi buys,  my Axis opponent  even admits he didn’t buy enough tanks since he used his airforce to destroy the British Navy in turn 2 and the Mediterranean Navy in turn 3  early in the game.  so the extra 9 IPCs from the far east could have been elminated earlier.  He didn’t hit it till Japan Turn 8  which meant the Soviets colleted 72 IPCs for the game from the far east.  cutting it down by turn 5 or 6 well after Germany was pressuring the Soviets and with Japan stomping to to india could have swung the war against the Allies!  I had also moved 15 far east troops all the way back to moscow and they were big help in retaking Stalingrad.

      Having 37 IPCs per game was a big advantage for me as the Soviet player I think.  But then again…  how did Italy do in your game?  In ours Italy got smashed up in the beginning.  Perhaps it could have helped the Nazis overall…  still ,  Japan in turn 5 was pretty damn strong and without reinforcement, or a convoy line from Japan to China his ground forces got pretty depleted.  It seemed easy to get a US navy to disrupt the convoys.  Anzac seemed poised to easily  retake at least one of the Dutch islands thus I think a Minor IC could have made the difference for Japan.
