      @Imperious:

      How much for a complete AAP40 set with 12 extra japanese tactical bombers?

      Also need my AA guns and Factories painted ( set from AA42)

      Again it depends on the options you wanted…

      I’m going to give a full pricing guide after I finish the US set. I want to clock myself accurately so I can make sure that I’m both still making money and not overcharging.  Then also note that I probably won’t start taking (large) orders until I finish my own set (I’m trying to make sure there aren’t any surprises and also want to get a good image stock going before I get too hasty about anything else).

      It’ll probably be a little while, but don’t worry, I’m pretty set on making this happen.

      @Variable:

      Seems this should provide enough budgetary options for most people. I know I can’t afford your work no matter how reasonable, but I know a lot of people here have the budget and desire for this. Are you thinking between $200 - $1000 depending on options chosen?

      Exactly. Of course it’ll depend on the number of pieces people want to order (I did extra pieces for my set). I was thinking of making a “commander in chief” set which would just be one deluxe infantry for each capital region. I dunno… Anyone have any ideas for other sets?

      @bennyboyg:

      Yeah, so. Is my firstborn child sufficient payment for a full set?

      Depends… Is he/she Organic USDA approved?

      I’ve been working on pricing… I’ve come up with several paint sets I will have available. The current set I’m displaying here is of course the insane deluxe set that will cost a lot. The only reason I’m charging a lot is because it takes a really long time to do and tests my sanity in the process.

      Here are my current ideas for what is available for each set… The extra/better options obviously will cost more. Also the buyer would have to provide the pieces (unless they want to pay for me to purchase them).

      Cleanup

      • Basic: Quick wash and brush (to remove factory mold release agent), grinding major mold imperfections.
      • Medium: Wash and brush, grind all mold marks.
      • Full: Wash and brush, grind all mold marks, epoxy fill any mold indentations.

      Primer

      • All sets would include this.

      Paint

      Infantry

      • Basic Flat Coat: One flat color over entire surface.
      • Uniform/Gun/Skin: Exactly what it says.
      • Deluxe: All details of figure and uniform painted.
      • Plus Roundel: Any above option plus a painted national roundel base.

      Ground Units

      • Basic Flat Coat: One flat color over entire surface.
      • Basic Camo: Two or three color camo scheme.
      • Additional Camo Schemes: Several different camo schemes.
      • Deluxe: Full camo scheme plus detailing.

      Air Force

      • Basic Flat Coat: One flat color over entire surface.
      • Basic Camo: Two or three color camo scheme.
      • Additional Camo Schemes: Several different camo schemes.
      • Deluxe: Full camo scheme plus detailing.

      Navy

      • Basic Flat Coat: One flat color over entire surface.
      • Basic Camo: Two or three color camo scheme.
      • Additional Camo Schemes: Several different camo schemes.
      • Deluxe: Full camo scheme plus detailing.

      Ink Shading

      • All sets will include this.

      Two Coat Sealer

      • All sets will include this.

      What do you guys think?

      Alright guys - I’m sculpting my own in epoxy resin or polymer clay… Anyone have any ideas or source imagery for the build? I’ve got a couple of sketches but I’d like to see what everyone else would like to see.

      I’m doing a new Major IC, Minor IC, Air Base, and Naval Base.

      Try to keep whatever you come up with semi-abstract like the original A&A forms.

      How about paintedarmy.com?

      I like that… Maybe I’ll snatch that one as well just for the multiple urls.

      Update coming soon! About halfway through the Japanese Navy - it’s huge!

      Two camo sets - 8 Battleships, 8 Carriers, 8 Cruisers, 12 Destroyers, 12 Transports, and 12 Subs.

      A dragon with a cross above it.

      But he’s 15th century, which is a very different game, as the feudal system was all but dead by 1300.

      Meanwhile, these are the French fiefs I’ve decided on:

      Yet to decide on sub-fiefs, but I won’t be limited by the terrain system.  Isle de France will also have Paris, which is worth extra as a major city.

      These arms are based on a date of 1200.

      The ancient arms of Brittany took some finding.

      When I paint my set, I’m going to used these for shields.

      Sounds good to me! I searched a few others that seemed to fit you but they were all taken. Maybe “allworkforyourplay.com”? It’s long but goes with the theme… :-D

      Well the one I currently have was going to be warandpieces.com … I might still register that one heh.

      @idk_iam_swiss:

      Go ahead and make canada its own power. try it in pacific. See how far that gets you

      I agree… Making Canada its own power wouldn’t work in my opinion:

      It would have all the disadvantages of the US transport problem without the advantages of enormous production, pre-existing forces, and supported factions elsewhere (IE Hawaii/Philippines/etc). While yes, this is a defensive advantage to a degree, it wouldn’t be a “fun” turn (some people that I introduce to A&A say that the US is a boring task force) and would seem more of an “ok let’s get Canada’s turn over with” part of the game. While historically they may have played a big role in the war and probably deserve being added, it isn’t very fitting of the game play and might muddle up the turn base. It would also take away from the UK’s already dwindling productivity, and they need it much more being in the brunt of the battle (that’s why France and Italy fit - immediate involvement).

      Having Canada as its own force would be more of a house-rule or something more geared for AAA or the War Game: WWII. I think it’d be more of a novelty than an actual functional and progressive addition to the mid-level simplicity of the 1940’s game versions.

      The only way I could see Canada as a power is if they were sort of China-esque in their production limitations. Maybe just ground units and transports? Or maybe just basic units of all varieties (no flagships or bombers)? I know this isn’t historically accurate but it might help with some balance, variety, and play time issues.

      Also I’m not sure if this idea has been breached already in the forum, but what about implementing the rule used when Allies left units in Russia from the original A&A Europe: If Canada (and maybe even ANZAC?) leaves a unit in the UK, the UK can take control of it (switch it out for an equivalent of one of their pieces) during their turn?

      @robbie358:

      You are insane man!  I can’t wait to see the carriers!
      How are you going to identify the Battleships, Cruisers, and Destroyers as Japanese?  In other words where will you put the rising sun flags?

      The entire navy will have the white flag with a red dot painted on the side of the ship, though the battleships and carriers will have the full roundel painted on their hulls (I’m going to go back and do this for the ANZAC flagships as well). Also every navy’s warships are going to have half of their smokestacks and radar towers striped with the original nation’s color (IE orange for Japan).

      @robbie358:

      I was thinking (because I have no artistic skill with a brush) about subbing A&A minis in for the pieces in the game, but that would 1) cost a ton and 2) overfill the board and 3) i’d have no way to easily identify what country the belong to.  I mean, it wouldnt be too hard to replace the infantry, but the tanks, half-tracks, ships (from War At Sea), and planes would almost never fit on an A&A board.  Besides I wouldnt have any way to mark them with the chips to denote say 4 battleships, and it’d be a huge mess.  Any thoughts?

      Well as a bit of shameless self promotion: I’m about to start a website offering the service of painting A&A (or any board game’s) pieces. There will be a wide variety of different detail availabilities for varying price ranges. I’m still in the process of getting all the specs together (gauging how long paint jobs take, what to charge, taking better pics of the finished product, etc).

      Speaking of which - anyone have any suggestions for a domain name?

      If you notice, the title of the forum is 1940 E&P. I’m just going through at least most of Pacific first. So far I’ve done (in this order) China, ANZAC, and Japan. Next is US, Germany, UK, Russia, Italy, France, (then possibly Canada? Neutrals?)

      @finnman:

      I love all the air force camos but I think that would be hard to keep track of on the board
      by the way what is your other project

      I made sets of camouflages to where a player can have enough with two of any variety (say one ocean and one mainland) and still keep track. Also the Japanese Air Force was very unique from the rest of the world in its decorative look. In my opinion one could really only confuse the flat green camo with America’s olive drab.

      But either way, my set is mostly designed to be historically accurate. I haven’t set up any of the boards yet (which is in itself a form of self discipline combined with torture), but I wouldn’t mind if any of them seem a bit confusing. That’s part of the effect of war. Just look at how many friendly casualties there are in every war. Much like in chess, my painted version will challenge players to keep track of their pieces with a much closer eye. I am trying not to have sets with too similar a paint scheme (like mentioned before, ANZAC vs UK will be the true test of that), but I’m not trying to make it a complimentary color set either.

      I can’t tell you about all my projects regarding A&A (sworn to secrecy for one) but:

      • My current job is custom kitchen cabinetry. I have access to a full carpentry shop, so I’m going to make my own version of the FMG ammo crate. The individual nation boxes are going to be divided up into slots for each of the units (and felt-lined). The box will have enough space for all the A&A variant games and for a custom dice tower.

      • I’m thinking about making my own boards for the A&A revised and 1940’s sets. This board would be hand painted on either plywood or some kind of pressed particle material. Everything will be interlocking in a much more secure fashion (and the revised board will be bigger of course).

      Hey Allworkandnoclay!  Where’s the rest! C’mon man… those minis aren’t going to paint themselves! eheheh Sweeet halfs and stands btw…

      Fantastic paint job, V! It doesn’t take much to update a painted A&A50 set to 1940 - just China, ANZAC, France (we assume), mech inf, and tact bombers (maybe a naval vessel as well? I forget). What did you seal your pieces with? Also are those decals or hand painted lettering?

      Coming up next: Japanese Navy, Six more Japanese Mech Inf, and the Six Chinese Artillery I forgot to do.
